May 5, 2011

Is there a way to install Plymouth Boot screen for centOS 5.5 ?I am unable to get any RPM for CentOS.Fedora has it but CentOS doesnt.I tried compiling it from source but I get an error that libpng 1.2.16 >= is required for this. Unfortunately even that is not there in CentOS.Only 1.2.10 is there for CentOS.

Ubuntu :: Blank Screen On Boot / Very Fast Plymouth Screen

Jan 14, 2011

I fixed this issue on 10.04, but just recently (1 hour ago) upgraded to 10.10 and am having the same issue. Machine boots fine, but the screen is blank for most of the boot, and plymouth is up for about a half second before I get to the login screen.I've tried searching the threads, but for the life of me I can't find the solution and can't remember what I did to fix it on Lucid.

This happens on boot on Fedora 15. Plymouth Boot Screen just stays there and I can't login. Searching around suggested kmod-nvidia to cause this (one moth ago ofc), but here I am with Intel Graphics and the default drivers.

Ubuntu Installation :: Plymouth Low Res Boot Screen

Apr 11, 2010

I have searched the forums on this problem and I am still not really clear on the fix for this or even if I should wait for final release. I am running Lucid 64bit and have upgraded through the cycle from Karmic. I am using nvidia proprietary drivers. All the time that the Plymouth boot screen has been available it has been in low resolution. As we are now at beta 2 I am torn between searching a fix or waiting for the final release. So, from what I have read I need the 'nouveau' driver to fix this issue.

1. How do I install this in place of my existing nvidia proprietary driver?

2. I am a little bit confused by the hardware drivers selection panel telling me that I have an nvidia driver installed but that it is not in use-I read that this might be a bug?

Ubuntu :: Purple/black Boot Screen No Plymouth.

May 1, 2011

I already had Plymouth issues on 10.10, which was solved by this script [URL]

After upgrade, boot only gave me a blank, purple screen, so I used his revert script then tried this : [URL]

But I'm only getting a black screen. Removing vga=795 option only make it stay purple. It might be because of the multiples workarounds I tried back in 10.10, but I don't know how to clean that up. I have an ATI HD Radeon Pro 2400 card with free drivers (but I was using the proprietary ones during upgrade).

General :: E4Rat Vs Plymouth Splash Screen

Apr 11, 2011

I'm currently running Linux Mint 10. Since I have an nVidia graphics card, I installed the driver and used this fix to fix the Plymouth bootsplash afterward because it was in text-mode for the bootsplash. I have since installed and configured e4rat to cache files at boot. It seems to have sped up things considerably, but has also re-broken my bootsplash. The resolution is correct, and plymouth is running, but the splash doesn't show.

Is there a way to get Plymouth using the uvesafb driver AND play along with e4rat?

I am using 64-bit Linux Mint. My copy of e4rat is compiled from source because the prebuilt package was 32-bit only My graphics card is nVidia 9800M GS (notebook) The splash screen appears during shutdown as it did before. It's only the boot splash that is affected.

CentOS 5 :: Video During Install But Blank Screen At First Boot

Apr 11, 2010

I've been trying out linux distros to see which I want to progress further with. I have a bunch of removable HDDs. I put a single distro on each HDD. I just installed CentOS 5.4 on a machine that has had successful installations of Debian 5.0.3, Fedora 12, and OpenSuse 11.2 installed on it. I still have those HDDs and they still boot and run fine.

CentOS 5.4 installed in graphical mode just fine. I even noticed that it appeared to probe my video card (ATI Radeon 9250 AGP) just fine. I removed the media and rebooted and the CentOS graphics came up fine, and it asked me a few questions such as could I hear the sound. Everything went fine when it said it was now booting to CentOS for the first time, and the screen went blank. The monitor LED stayed green, however, so it looks to me like the monitor still sees a signal.

I'm guessing I need to boot into text mode and fiddle with the display settings, but I'm pretty much lost there.

I did a lspci under Fedora and it lists the following for video:

let me log out of my dang XP machine, and cut and paste the entire stuff straight from the machine I installed CentOS on which is now running Fedora 12.

Fedora :: F15 Plymouth - Can't Get To Login Screen

Jun 15, 2011

When I change the boot up theme in plymouth from the default, Fedora will not give me a login screen, or leave the plymouth splash screen, I like the spinfinity theme, however when I set that I cannot get to the login screen unless I hit esc when it is booting and never let the splash screen come up. This happens with both gdm and kdm. Anyone else having this problem?

Ubuntu :: No Plymouth Splash Screen On 10.04?

Jul 1, 2010

I just installed Kubuntu 10.04 on my Desktop computer. Prior to KDM loading, all I get is a blank, black screen with no Plymouth splash screen. I'm confident that this issue is not related to KDE but would apply to all Ubuntu variants. Here are my computer specs:

Kubuntu 10.04 x64 running with all updates
Dell Studio Desktop
Intel Quad-Core Processor 2.66Ghz
8GB ram
Intel Integrated Graphics

I should note that I have full desktop effects running smoothly under KDE with compositing enabled, so my integrated graphics is not necessarily the problem unless Plymouth is not loading the graphics drivers successfully.

Two things.First off, since 10.04, no matter how many times I try to change the keyboard layout to United Kingdom, when I log back in the @ and " signs are ALWAYS in the wrong place.

Ubuntu :: Plymouth Doing Nothing On Boot?

Dec 23, 2010

I'm using Xubuntu 10.10, with 2.6.35-24-generic kernel. I'm 64-bit. If it helps at all, I'm using xorg-edgers, but that doesn't seem to mean anything here.My issue is that Plymouth is doing absolutely nothing on boot. I know this from using bootchart and seeing that Plymouth launches itself three times, but not seeing anything every boot. The only splash I do see is after I log in, the mouse thing, but that's XFCE.

So, how can I either remove Plymouth entirely, get it working, or find a better splash program? The reason why I ask how to get rid of Plymouth is because it may be entangled in some things that apt-get purge wouldn't fix.

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Fresh Install Of Centos Doesnt Display On Whole Screen?

Jun 8, 2009

i didnt find a solution to a display problem im having. my server mobo is an asus k8n-dre with built in video. after the install(using built in video) the screen dosnt display fully as in black sections on the left and top of the screen. from the searching i did i found something about an "xrandr" command that would let me change the video settings but it didnt do anything with the black areas when i tried it. i also have a nvidia geforce 9500gt video card so i changed the jumper to boot from it and tried again. the black sections are still there but the centos display covers much more of the screen now. theres still about a third of an inch gap on the left hand side and about 1/4 of an inch on the top. ive also tried updating the software to see if it may be a driver issue but no luck. anyone know how or if it can fit to full sceen? the screen displays up to 1440x900 if im not mistaken but with the built in video it gave me lots of display options including the 1440x900. after changing to the nvidia card it only shows 800x600 and 640x480.

Ubuntu Installation :: Plymouth Load Screen Producing Video Artifacts On Higher Resolutions

May 1, 2010

I have a problem with Plymouth. It works pretty well on low res, but on higher resolution some strange video artefacts appear - see attachments.

I use ATI proprietary drivers, if it has something to do with it.

The resolution is set in /etc/default/grub like this:

Code:
GRUB_GFXMODE=1024x768
GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=1024x768x32
edit: reducing colour depth doesn't help /end edit

I don't know whether it has anything to do with the current problem, but Plymouth used not to appear at all until I followed these instructions (or actually I took them from another thread but I can't find it at the moment and these are the same).

I don't know whether it's possible to take them during booting so I've taken these photos with a mobile and retouched in gimp to remove reflections (more or less), and since I'm no pro photographer nor photoshop/gimp master they look as they look. They should do to demonstrate the problem, though.
