I have Fedora (12 plus some rawhide, but mostly 12 because I am not up to date) with the Nouveau driver. I tried to switch to the solar plymouth theme, but I only see the ASCII progress bar at boot. But when I shut down, it work nicely. (I have updated to initrd and menu.lst)
View 2 RepliesI installed nVidia drivers for Ubuntu 11.04 but when I went to restart the computer (to complete the installation) it froze on the splash screen at the third "dot" and I had to turn off the computer manually.
I can shut down the computer, but every time I restart I get the same issue (except sometimes only the "dots" appear with lines of code running in the background).
I read on-line that hitting "F1" or "ALT + F1" right before the splash screen appears might work...but it doesn't.
My concern is that maybe the nVidia driver is "activated but not currently in use" because it didn't install properly due to the whole not restarting on it's own thing.
I've got a Lenovo Thinkpad X201i. The problem I have is (since I've installed Xubuntu) every time I start up my laptop it just hangs with a little flashing white stripe in the top of the left corner (like every start up). Then when I shut down the laptop using the power button and start it up again it works. How can this be possible? On start up, it hangs, while on the restart it always works. Which means I have to restart my laptop every single time.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using Xubuntu 10.10, with 2.6.35-24-generic kernel. I'm 64-bit. If it helps at all, I'm using xorg-edgers, but that doesn't seem to mean anything here.My issue is that Plymouth is doing absolutely nothing on boot. I know this from using bootchart and seeing that Plymouth launches itself three times, but not seeing anything every boot. The only splash I do see is after I log in, the mouse thing, but that's XFCE.
So, how can I either remove Plymouth entirely, get it working, or find a better splash program? The reason why I ask how to get rid of Plymouth is because it may be entangled in some things that apt-get purge wouldn't fix.
Whenever I boot fedora core 13 it starts Plymouth and a txt progress bar starts at the bottom. Whenever it gets to 100% it flickers a little bit then does nothing. The system doesn't hang I can still crrl-alt-delete and it shows the processes stopping. When it displays the programs starting it gets to jexec and nothing happens.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSince I've been using the nvidia drivers (from rpmfusion) and followed Leigh123's nvidia guide, I don't have a Plymouth graphical boot anymore. Instead I get the black screen and the blue/white bar at the bottom. I installed the plymouth-theme-solar (or whatever) and switched to that, updated initrd too, but no difference - same thing happened. This is an AMD64 system, latest kernel, latest nvidia drivers. Snippet of grub.conf:-

I have just installed the F13 XFCE spin on my netbook (Asus Eee 1000ha), and can't boot past where Plymouth is supposed to start. The message I get is below.

This happens on boot on Fedora 15. Plymouth Boot Screen just stays there and I can't login. Searching around suggested kmod-nvidia to cause this (one moth ago ofc), but here I am with Intel Graphics and the default drivers.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have searched the forums on this problem and I am still not really clear on the fix for this or even if I should wait for final release. I am running Lucid 64bit and have upgraded through the cycle from Karmic. I am using nvidia proprietary drivers. All the time that the Plymouth boot screen has been available it has been in low resolution. As we are now at beta 2 I am torn between searching a fix or waiting for the final release. So, from what I have read I need the 'nouveau' driver to fix this issue.
1. How do I install this in place of my existing nvidia proprietary driver?
2. I am a little bit confused by the hardware drivers selection panel telling me that I have an nvidia driver installed but that it is not in use-I read that this might be a bug?
I cant get a bootsplash image at all during boot/shutdown. Anyways I tried some solutions and kinda realized I dont have /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash. Could that possibly be it? And if so, how do I fix this. 10.04 Nvidia graphics Is there another solution to plymouth? I tried splashy and usplash wont install. So anyone else know a way.

Basically, I put this in the Terminal: sudo update-alternatives --config default.plymouth
I then selected a theme (I believe it was spinning something or other). Then I entered: sudo update-initramfs -u
Now, when I boot up, it just sits on a blank screen after I select to start up with ubuntu. I can't boot into ubuntu at all.

My system runs fine, I have an Nvidia card and when I boot up I guess it would be Plymouth displays some stuff; several lines and it goes by too quick for me to be able to read much of it.
Then it goes back to normal and the login in screen appears like normal. Everything is normal except for the black display and the stuff that is displayed before the login screen appears. Even with this, my system boots up in under 20 seconds at last check.
Is there anything I should/could do to get the errors or information lines or whatever they are to not show up?
I installed Lucid during beta (I think) and have kept up with the updates and all appears smooth to me. I have a super nice custom grub2 screen.
I have a fresh install of 10.04 and i have changed my playmouth theme to spinfinity and now when i boot its plays the animation and then justh the ubuntu logo on the screen.....ice let it sit at this state for hours...when i push the power button on my computer the logo goes away and ubuntu proceeds to shut down.cant log into my desktop to change the theme back to the default....im on another partition at the moment....how do i change my theme back to the default?

After upgrade, boot only gave me a blank, purple screen, so I used his revert script then tried this : [URL]
But I'm only getting a black screen. Removing vga=795 option only make it stay purple. It might be because of the multiples workarounds I tried back in 10.10, but I don't know how to clean that up. I have an ATI HD Radeon Pro 2400 card with free drivers (but I was using the proprietary ones during upgrade).
Is there a way to install Plymouth Boot screen for centOS 5.5 ?I am unable to get any RPM for CentOS.Fedora has it but CentOS doesnt.I tried compiling it from source but I get an error that libpng 1.2.16 >= is required for this. View 2 Replies View Relatedreally wish to customize my GDM for ubuntu 11.4 but failed to do so.....therefore i decided to use alt. such as SLiM.....I could install it properly in virtualbox but when i went to do it on my real ubuntu 11.4 ......the screen stops at plymouth theme or goes blank after loading plymouth theme......then i read further more blogs and made changes and now even if i configure SLim the GDM starts no matter what i do .........

View 1 Replies View RelatedShe was running a script in R (which was supposed to take a regression from R and output to LaTeX) but it failed, causing a "massive core dump" and shut down her computer. She rebooted, performed a recovery, but her system was still running slowly so she decided to upgrade to Narwhal. At this point she received an error message saying that the upgrade was interrupted by an eclipse package, and it failed, saying that her (disk? she couldn't remember) "may not be recoverable." Now, when I try to boot from GRUB, from any kernel listed ($22, $25, $27, and $28 ), I get the following error message:
I booted from a LiveCD, and it worked (including the splash screen). I then scanned the hard drive with smartctl, and looked at it in Gparted. Nothing seemed amiss. I could open files stored on the hard drive from the LiveCD, so I think there is something wrong with the boot process but I don't know how to fix it. One idea I've got is to run Super GRUB Disk and see if that fixes my boot problems.
Offlate I installed F11 i586 on my laptop. F11 shares the hard disk with Vista Home Premium 32-bit. The problem is that when running F11 (or even Ubuntu), my system shut off suddenly(not a normal OS shut down, but a sudden power off without any warning). This could have been a hardware trouble(heating) but it doesn't happen with Vista.

I have successfully installed the Nvidia driver on my FC13 system that is using an Nvidia NV44 (Ge 6200) card. It seems to be working as I see the nvidia driver when I do a lsmod | grep nvidia and the glxgears program works as well as the nvidia-settings program.Basically, I did the following:

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to 64-bit maverick (from 64-bit lucid) and I'm getting this ugly boot splash now - it's a purple screen with a very basic "ubuntu 10.10" written in terminal font and four dots underneath. I am running a dell xps m1530 with nvidia graphics card, and haven't had any trouble with the boot splash before. I have run the additional hardware drivers utility and it says I have the latest Nvidia driver already loaded apparently.I have looked around the forums and tried a few suggested solutions, like updating the initramfs with the framebuffer=y line but that didn't do anything. I also tried adding a new theme in plymouth and switched to that instead, but it still doesn't come up.

My "normal" linux kernels disappeared. When I want to boot linux I use a recovery kernel, then I simply hit "resume" in the process, do the textual login and than use the command "startx" to start the system. However i'm getting no Plymouth and no normal boot. I have already tried to fix grub recreating the linux kernels, but they just don't show.
I installed Fedora 12 and after I wantd to shut down the system. I waited but fedora not going to shut down. I got black screen with Power Down

Everything worked fine, except at boot, the splash screen doesn't fill the entire monitor. I set it to the native resolution of my monitor, 1920x1080. Its just not stretched fullscreen.

I recently reinstalled Ubuntu 11.04 "Natty Narwhal" Daily 20101124 on my netbook and decided to place /home on an external 500GB SimpleTech hard drive because the netbook's internal SSD is only 8 GB.
Well, when I boot into the main SSD to try and test out the system, I have two problems:
First of all, GRUB is unstable and won't always find the kernel to boot. In particular, I have to hit <Enter> one, two, even three times just for GRUB to find the kernel and boot the system.
However, that's not all:
When the system is booting, I wait endlessly for X to start. It doesn't. The Plymouth splash screen stays there and it looks like the system is endlessly booting with no progress.
Suggest chrooting into the drive and doing a "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" by any chance? This being in order to make the system on the drive up-to-date? If so, I will see if it boots.
