I tried to switch my Plymouth install from the default Kubuntu splash to Solar. Now, when I boot up, it shows a low-resolution default Ubuntu splash, with a monospaced-text logo. On shutdown, Solar displays, but at a very low resolution. How do I fix this?
View 3 RepliesIs it just me or are others too experiencing this problem.Just installed the Solar theme for plymouth.....It works well without affecting the boot time....The only thing that is imperfect about it is that the progressbar moves extremely slowly and only completes 1/3 rd before Ubuntu boot

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy system runs fine, I have an Nvidia card and when I boot up I guess it would be Plymouth displays some stuff; several lines and it goes by too quick for me to be able to read much of it.
Then it goes back to normal and the login in screen appears like normal. Everything is normal except for the black display and the stuff that is displayed before the login screen appears. Even with this, my system boots up in under 20 seconds at last check.
Is there anything I should/could do to get the errors or information lines or whatever they are to not show up?
I installed Lucid during beta (I think) and have kept up with the updates and all appears smooth to me. I have a super nice custom grub2 screen.
Well this problem has been here since Lucid. When I start up my computer and select Ubuntu, I get a blinking underscore for about most of the start up time for Ubuntu. Then It quickly shows the nice Ubuntu Loading Screen (Plymouth) for about two seconds, then it gets to the login screen. I am using the Open Source ATI drivers, I believe the open drivers are called "radeon".
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if anyone has a solution to my problem: I run Ubuntu 11.04 on my laptop (everything is great) but when I come home I like to connect it to a larger monitor. This will work fine, but presently the only way for me to get that to work is to go into my nVidia settings and reconfigure the displays every time I do this. Is there I can make my system recognize it should change displays as soon as I plug in the monitor?

The full one has every default package installed using the Live CD and some extra packages I've been adding as I need them, the custom one is created using debootstrap and then I add some packages: xserver, fluxbox, alsa... among others.
But I have one problem: plymouth shows a low-res splash screen for the custom installation, while it works great with the full one. Both running on the same motherboard and with the same monitor. Besides, I need to set the FRAMEBUFFER=y option in the custom installation to make plymouth show the splash screen at boot.
I've tried setting GRUB_GFXMODE, GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD and GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX for GRUB without any change, I'd like to know what other programs/drivers/configurations may affect Plymouth resolution so that I could find what is preventing my custom installation from showing a nice plymouth splash screen.

I installed the latest Debian on an Atom 525 rig, with GMA 3150 integrated graphics. I have a 16:9 full HD monitor connected to the rig, but the available resolutions are not 16:9, except for the first and (roughly) the last:
1920x1080, 1680x1050, 1280x1024, 1152x864, 1024x768, 800x600, 640x480, 720x400
Now, 1920x1080 is the monitor's native resolution, but I really can't use it, stuff is just too small and not everything can be fixed by changing the system fonts' size. So I was wondering if there is a way to add some 16:9 resolutions, I'd look for 1600x900 and most of all 1280x720.I know that this usually gets done editing xorg.conf, but there's no such file in the /etc/X11 folder on my rig.

really wish to customize my GDM for ubuntu 11.4 but failed to do so.....therefore i decided to use alt. such as SLiM.....I could install it properly in virtualbox but when i went to do it on my real ubuntu 11.4 ......the screen stops at plymouth theme or goes blank after loading plymouth theme......then i read further more blogs and made changes and now even if i configure SLim the GDM starts no matter what i do .........
PS : I am new to ubuntu and dont have any knowledge about scripting programming and stuff....
Barebones installation. Manually start x with 'startx'. For some weird reason, the resolution randomly sets to either 1024x768 or 800x600. How do I permanently set a resolution?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI searched the archives and didn't find anything on this, and was just wondering if there is a problem if you load Ubuntu 9.1 and have a display that's higher than 1024x768. I'd prefer a machine with a higher res, but I've heard that Ubuntu will only go as high as 1024x768.I'm guessing, however, that by 9.1, it should recog the higher res while loading and it won't be a problem, but thought I'd check before shelling out on a machine with a nicer display.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Xubuntu 10.10, with 2.6.35-24-generic kernel. I'm 64-bit. If it helps at all, I'm using xorg-edgers, but that doesn't seem to mean anything here.My issue is that Plymouth is doing absolutely nothing on boot. I know this from using bootchart and seeing that Plymouth launches itself three times, but not seeing anything every boot. The only splash I do see is after I log in, the mouse thing, but that's XFCE.
So, how can I either remove Plymouth entirely, get it working, or find a better splash program? The reason why I ask how to get rid of Plymouth is because it may be entangled in some things that apt-get purge wouldn't fix.
I've been seeing a lot of posts on Plymouth and I was wondering a few things:
1) What exactly is Plymouth supposed to do? Is it supposed to make a fancy splash screen to replace the scrolling Kernel messages (Which is now just a blinking cursor at the top left), and for that matter...
2) Is it supposed to replace bootlogd (Which has been deprecated - by what, who knows?)? I've seen something about "Plymouth Logger" when I was running the updates on Lucid but I'm not sure how it's supposed to work.
3) I do see a splash screen for Kubuntu when I log off, is the same one supposed to be there when the computer is booting. Also is anyone here familiar with Backtrack? In Backtrack when you boot, you get a splash of the Remote Exploit logo, but in the middle there's a box with the kernel boot messages. Can something similar be implemented in Kubuntu? (Forgive my noobishness)
4) If indeed Plymouth has replaced bootlogd as the boot time logger, will it also fix the problem of incomplete boot logs that existed with bootlogd (And spare us from having to use serial consoles in order to check what modules or drivers are failing at boot time so we can optimize our kernels).
just what the title says. i installed a theme from synaptic, but it has no effect.for those of you who don't know, plymouth is the program that shows the boot screen.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed Kubuntu 10.04 on my Desktop computer. Prior to KDM loading, all I get is a blank, black screen with no Plymouth splash screen. I'm confident that this issue is not related to KDE but would apply to all Ubuntu variants. Here are my computer specs:
Kubuntu 10.04 x64 running with all updates
Dell Studio Desktop
Intel Quad-Core Processor 2.66Ghz
8GB ram
Intel Integrated Graphics
I should note that I have full desktop effects running smoothly under KDE with compositing enabled, so my integrated graphics is not necessarily the problem unless Plymouth is not loading the graphics drivers successfully.
I just change the theme to plymouth and also apply this command:
sudo echo FRAMEBUFFER=y > /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash
sudo update-alternatives --config default.plymouth
sudo update-initramfs -u
I know that it made the boot time much longer and now I want to undo/revert the changes that I've made.
I am trying to boot in to ubuntu 10.10 from a usb on my desktop but i can't seem to get past the purple screen with "ubuntu" and the flashing dots. The purple dots scroll for a bit but then all turn purple. I'm trying to do this on a hp compaq with a pentium 4 and from what i can tell nothing is wrong with it.

I removed and reinstalled the Plymouth packages to no avail.. Anyone know how I can at least get rid of this error from appearing (like somehow changing a .conf file to not even try and "connect" to Plymouth)?
I did try the sudo apt-get update and all those other commands as listed on other sites. I went through the basic Google search so after the first 4 pages, I'm outta ideas.
I was evaluating a live distro on a USB drive and the resolution got changed from my normal 1680X1050 to 1024X768. I normally run SuperOS (ubuntu derivative) at 1680X1050 on my 22" LCD flatscreen monitor. The users manual for the monitor says that the optimum resolution is 1680X1050. Now when I go to system, preferences, monitors the monitor is unknown and the highest resolution that is available is 1360X768. I have clicked on Detect Monitors but not sure anything is happening. I have went to system, administration, additional drivers but none show up. The OSD menu for the monitor is showing 1380X768. I haven't been able to make any changes to the setting. I push the button that is supposed to get me into the sub-menu but nothing happens.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have searched the forums on this problem and I am still not really clear on the fix for this or even if I should wait for final release. I am running Lucid 64bit and have upgraded through the cycle from Karmic. I am using nvidia proprietary drivers. All the time that the Plymouth boot screen has been available it has been in low resolution. As we are now at beta 2 I am torn between searching a fix or waiting for the final release. So, from what I have read I need the 'nouveau' driver to fix this issue.
1. How do I install this in place of my existing nvidia proprietary driver?
2. I am a little bit confused by the hardware drivers selection panel telling me that I have an nvidia driver installed but that it is not in use-I read that this might be a bug?
I just upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 and everything went fine. No problems other then there is no animation while booting. It just goes to the login screen (ugly tree ) . I have a feeling it has something to do with the nvidia card (fx5200) i am using the 173 driver. Because the screen switches resloutions and no Nvidia screen is showing as in the previous version 9.10. Any ideas on how to fix this?? I did a search and came up with no good answers yet. The Nvidia seems to be working fine everywhere else so far.
