I am in the process of moving all my data from Windows to Ubuntu. So far everything has gone well and I am very impressed with Ubuntu and regret not doing this years ago.
One program is giving problems. It is a program called Sharescope and I pay a subscription for it and it runs in my Windows partition. I downloaded Wine and then downloaded Sharescope three times but when I click to install it comes up with the following message;

I contacted Sharescope and they said it was a permission issue in Ubuntu. Is there any way to install this program or will I have to work with it in Windows?
i've recently bought a ZTE MG880+ modem of reliance and since then i'm trying to establish a net connection in 9.10 but failed. As i was searching for a solution i came to know about wvdial and usb modeswitch;i dwnlded both the programs in XP and installed only wvdial because i couldn't install the usb modeswitch program. But still i was able to modeswitch with the following procedure,-
note down the idvendor & idproduct with lsusb
sudo chmod 777 /lib/udev/rules.d/61-mobile-action.rules
sudo gedit /lib/udev/rules.d/61-mobile-action.rules
changed the default idvendor and idproduct with my own e.g 0x19d2:0xfff5
saved the file in downloads folder with name 90-mobile-action.rules
moved the file to /etc/udev/rules.d folder
reboot
After rebooting when i again plugged in the usb modem the lsusb command showed that idvendor:idproduct=0x19d2:0xfffe.So i think that mode switching is done but still i'm unable to connect to internet

Whenever I try to install a program by Synaptic Package Manager, it downloads packages but it doesn't install those.It tries to connect to downloads.openwrt.org but unables to connect because of connection time out. I have attached a screenshot of it.

I'm traying to remove several program, sucha as transmission, bunshee and other, I can't unistall them from the console by typing sudo apt-get remove ***, neither trhough synaptic, neither thru ubuntu softare center... each time I try to unistall I got the message that its being unistall but after it I open the softare just if like its properly installed.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI work for a food manufacturing company in Sheffield and we have a machine called a duck injector which operates off a Human Machine Interface Touch Screen. The program inside this has been written and runs using Linux. This is stored on a Compact Flash Card.
This screen has been damaged and isn't made anymore so we've been sent a new screen which is a 12'1" Intel Atom N270 HMI.
I simply tried to put the Flash Card in the port and powered it up (booting from a removable source) and i get the following:
I've had absolutely zero experience with Linux so i'm completely stuck as to what to do to get it to work.
I've got a flash card with XP on it so i can boot up in that but then it won't read the flash card with the program on because it's in Linux (presumably?)
I've also tried downloading Mubuntu 10.10 and booted it up using that on a flashdrive - this allows me to read the flash card with the program but i can't get it to boot up/run.
just installed iptraf and was using it. However, I lost the SSH link while IPTRAF was running. Now when I try to go into detailed statistics it says: detailed interface stats alreday monitoring eth0. How do I stop that so I can start it again? I tried kill and the process id which I found using pidof iptraf but it won;t stop the program.

The problem occurs with all commands - not just this one. isis3Startup.sh is in green on the screen so I assume I should be able to run it - I have never had any problem when it was installed previously.
I have downloaded the jdk-6u20-linux-i586.bin from their website. I also read the instruction given to install jdk manually but i was not able to run a single program. View 9 Replies View RelatedI was running 9.04 and could, through some magical sequence of toggling options that I was unable to figure out, occasionally get recording from the mic to work in audacity. Ardour worked more reliably, but is kind of over-featured. Audacity is simpler and I know how to get things done. For a while, I was doing basic recording in Ardour, saving it to wav then editing in audacity.
Well, I noticed a howto on getting audacity working in 9.10... so I upgraded ("what could possibly go wrong?"). I still can't record audio in audacity and ardour is now ALSO unable to record audio. They start recording samples but nothing comes in but silence. I've got audacity set to ALSA/default/default and when I click monitor, the stream appears in the pavucontrol app. I've moved it to the input device and that doesn't seem to affect the results at all. Everything looks like it should be working fine except there's some invisible mute button, or something. Under alsamixer's Capture section, Mic has a red "CAPTUR" with no bar to adjust.
I have Mint 10 installed, and I am using Pidgin with GFire plugin for my messenger. I am having an issue where pidgin will become greyed out, and I am unable to use the program after it greys out. This happens fairly fast after I start up pidgin, maybe 2 or 3 minutes. Screenshot below, cant post links so trying this.

I wrote a multithread program(c++,gnu gcc). it contains a main program and plugins. some functions in plugins use sleep(). Using these functions in threads cause freezing program. in other word thread sleeps but dosn't wake. How can i use sleep() in my plugin functions without this problem?

Since ugprading today to a fresh install of Xubuntu 11.04 I am unable to open .exe's through Thunar my file manager with 'WINE Program Loader'
Wine 1.2.2.
When I try to i receive the error:

When I check the permissions tab of properties there is no option to make it executable as per screenshot.
Also using chmod +x doesn't change anything but I am able to open .exe using WINE in the terminal but I would rather I did not have to do this every time I use WINE.
I have no intention of using mIRC, it was just a small windows installer I downloaded for testing.
I couldn't connect my Micromax 300G modem in Debian Linux. From internet (in Windows Vista), I came across the information of USB_ModeSwitch and then I downloaded it. While going to install it, I came across the problem that TCL-interpreter is not available in Debian Linux. Then again I restarted my laptop in Windows Vista and connected my Micromax modem and from internet downloaded TCL8.5.10-src.tar.gz. But while going to install it, I came across the problem that " configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH " . The iso I burned to CD is good (works on 2 other computers). His computer will not boot from USB, no matter what I do to the drive order in BIOS. After loading the blue screen with the Kubuntu logo on it (and the blue-white dots), the screen changes to black and shows the following text:

I'm trying to install The Sims 2 (which I'm aware currently does not run properly in wine anyway), using the multi-CD version. The installation goes normally, up until it comes time to switch from disc 1 to disc 2. The installer prompts me to insert disc 2, but it seems that Ubuntu still believes that the installer doesn't want me to open the drive, because, when I try to open it, it doesn't open, and a window pops up with the following message: Unable to eject CD-RW/DVD RW Drive DBus error org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor.Failed: An operation is already pending

Now I have to copy instance of the executable to every node for the program to run in the cluster. Is there anyway to load the program from a particular node and then use the cluster nodes in its execution without manually copying the executable to each and every node in the cluster
