OpenSUSE :: How To Install A Program

Jun 27, 2010

well I want to get the latest version of java on my opensuse. (java is just an example, the rest of programs are similar)Default I had JRE 1.6.0-u17 and I want to have 1.6.0-u20 both JRE and JDK.Choices:1. I added some yast repositories and installed JRE, JDK and java browser plugin2. download from site the .bin file, chmod +x and ./runit!First, I tried the 2nd version but I had some problems:1 - this didn't affected the classpath so when I used java -version still u17 it was, not u202 - the browser plugin wasn't updated3 - how cand I uninstall it (u20)? Latelty I come back to the 1st choice, it works, but I want to learn opensuse so.

Is there a way to disable preload for a given process and/or a set of files? I'm having an issue with MLDonkey, which I configured to run as a service. Apparently, preload is trying to pre-load the temporary files lying under MLDonkey working directory (which are huge), and tis is causing a massive slowdown when booting

OpenSUSE :: W7 Convert Needs Program Recommendation

Mar 9, 2010

i'm converting from w7 and before doing so made up a list of functions i wanted to be capable of doing in opensuse.i have most of them complete but saved the ones that gave me some problems or simply perplexed me until last.i managed to figure out ps3 media server, but still need to know how to automount my external usb drive upon boot.i have my vnc needs met with x11vnc and no probs there.

but what i'm not sure how to do is to synchronize my files between my three computers as well as how to backup my files to an offsite file service (perhaps datastorageunit). i've considered just using dropbox, which from what i've read will backup to offsite ( i used mozy on w7) as well as sync my files across my lan (goodsync handled my syncing). however, i really dont want to pay $10/mo. for 50gb of storage with dropbox when datastorageunit is only $3/mo for 100gb. datastorage unit says that rsync can be used however, even with the gui (grsync) installed i still couldn't make much head way. id rather not take the lazy/pricier way out with dropbox, but instead learn how to use grsync.

OpenSUSE :: How Does Apparmor Block A Bad-program

Jun 10, 2010

depending on reading some apparmor docs, I know that apparmor read logs to determine what profile a program will be, that means a profile only can be built when the program have been exec at least a time, or we already how will be executed of a specific program. but if a hack inserts a bad-program such as a back door or virus what should never be executed any time, and at the same time we don't know what's the consequence will happen due to the behaviors of a bad-program. therefore, how could apparmor do to prevent these situations? Can apparmor confine every thing what under a specific directory by default? because use: aa-autodep /path/to/restrict/* is 'complain' by default and everything are allowed, can apparmor deny everything by default?
