I just installed the MIDI Virtual Keyboard from the Software centre.Problem is when I hit the keys there's no sound at all.
Please tell me what I'm doing wrong? or if I need to add some other package to make this work?
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 with the Kubuntu desktop environment. I'm trying to use my MIDI keyboard through ALSA, Linuxsampler and Qsampler. But I still haven't got a sound out of it, and I fear that the information about the existence of the keyboard doesn't get through. That, or I don't know how to configure properly.
In sndstat, both my sound card (Guitar Rig) and my keyboard (Hua Xing) is showing up:

I'm looking for info on setting up a piano type usb keyboard (also called midi controller?) in ubuntu. Any of the references I have found cite alsa, and I'm assuming they won't work with pulse. Also I'm sort of stalling on purchasing said keyboard until I feel there's a reasonable probability of it working. Here's a reference with alsa [URL].

I have an M-Audio KeyRig 49 midi controller that I would like to get some sound out of. How might I do this? I have jack, qjackctl, qsynth, et al but forget qsynth... I can't even get jack to start! I just need to hook this thing up to a piano sample and I'll be happy as anything. I understand that system information can be useful so here goes: Running F14... here are the jack messages (btw, ctrl C does not work when trying to copy from the jack messages window, despite the contextual menu saying it should. That sucks. where do I submit a bug?)

I have already seen the Fedora Musician's Guide [URL] which is long on theory but short on practical how-to documentation. Is there a better doc I can look at? Do I need to download some special drivers to get this midi interface working? If I plug this thing in to my friend's Mac and run GarageBand, it 'just works' (though GB's piano samples are fairly horrific considering how expensive macs are.) I already own some decent soundfonts but without working jack it seems they aren't much use.
I just switched to Ubuntu 10.04 and I'm looking for a way to be able to play piano with my M-audio Keystation 88es keyboard.In Windows I use the amazing Synthogy Ivory piano sounds. Is there anything similar in linux? everything up? I followed different instructions on how to setup Jack to make it work and it can see the keyboard but I wasn't able to get any sound out of it.My computer has the Asus built-in sound card and I also have a separate M-audio Audiophile 192 sound card.

View 1 Replies View Relatedhave recently installed CentOS 5.6 Final on TWO DIFFERENT desktop PC's, and, on EITHER ONE, I can not get any sound output when using KMid to play a "standard .mid file (the file I am using to experiment with is "Canyon.mid", from the Windoze Media directory, a fairly standard midi audio file, I should think?!). I have normal audio output on both of these machines (.mp3 files, system sounds, etc.), so the specific sound cards are NOT the issue, here!I am thinking I must be missing something, as both of these PC's are completely different CPU types, etc. as well. The only significant similiarity in the two machines is the complete lack of MIDI audio output!And, yea, the soundcards are BOTH MPU-401 compatible, and they both have irq's assigned to this port (or, maybe just one has an irq assigned, I will have to double check...).

When I play a midi file, all other sound on the system is knocked out and is unusable until I reboot. No idea how to start trouble shooting.
Trying to convert a midi file I created in Rosegarden into a wav file using Sound Converter. Snd Cnvrtr wants to load some gstreamer "bad" plugins, but they end up conflicting with "good" plugins and "ugly' plugins that had been loaded in the kernel (I think). Thought I might remove gstreamer and load up the "bad" plugins, but that meant removing a huge chunk of programming including Snd Cnvrtr. Anyone got any idea how I might do the conversion apart from Snd Cnvrtr? Either that or how I might get hold of the appropriate plugins to allow the midi to wav conversion to take place?

At this point the hardware consists of a simple UART bridge, and I've already written a simple C++ program using termios to send the raw midi data to the device. Obviously I don't want to write a player/sequencer from scratch, so where should I start if I wanted to get this thing to work with, say, a sequencer like rosegarden? Do I write the driver for rosegarden, or hook into alsa or what?

It has the standard Line in, Line out, and Mic jacks, as well as what appears to be a game port. I think it has some MIDI capabilities, because "cat /dev/snd/midiC0D0" does not fail with "no such device or address," but I don't know if it has MIDI input capabilities, or if it can synthesize, or what. Is there any way to tell?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using ubuntu 9.10 (kernel 2.6.31-9-rt) and an M-Audio Delta 1010 PCI sound card, and trying to get MIDI inputs and outputs to work on this sound card.I have Jack installed and working. MIDI signals from virtual keyboard or a MIDI player can be routed to fluidsynth, and fluidsynth's audio can be played back through the outputs of the delta 1010.I can use a MIDI sequencer (e.g. rosegarden or qtractor) to record MIDI from virtual keyboard, with jack handling the routing.
But, no matter how I configure the connections in jack, I can't get any signals from the "MIDI In" port on the sound card.Does anybody have some thoughts on how to fix this? Where is the disconnect between the delta 1010 and qtractor? I am concerned also that the "MIDI In" LED on the front panel of the Delta 1010 never blinks. There must be some basic ALSA configuration that needs to be done to activate and use these MIDI ports, or something. I've been trying to figure it out for days.
Here's the problem of mine: I cannot make my EMU10k1 based sound card (Audigy 2 ZS) to play midi.
What I tried to make it work so far:
1. Install sound fonts: unison.sf2 and FluidR3_GS.sf2
2. Use asfxload to load these soundfonts.

Running 10.10 and win 7 on my HP dv6-2150us laptop and I'm having a few issues.
First how do I get HDMI audio output to my TV? I think I have just a integrated Intel graphics card. It works fine in windows but I can't seem to get it to work in Ubuntu. I tried searching but couldn't find anything pertaining to this issue.

So here's the situation. He plugs his audio jack into his computer and then into the speakers but it still plays from the computer speakers.
I have a fresh install of Natty and i'm having some issues getting sound to work. My laptop has a built in sound card which works just fine. However, i also have a usb 5.1 sound card which isn't working at all. Both devices show up in 'Sound Preferences' but when i select the 5.1 device as the output device sound doesnt work. I ran the alsa-info.sh script and the output can be found here.

1. When I change the sound to internal sound the webcam works in Skype but I have not sound.
2. When I change the sound to the USB headset (sound output) the webcam does not work in Skype.
I have installed Fedora 10-x86_64. I was happy and content with the distribution. Earlier, I found that there is no sound on my headphone's jack where as the normal sound output from my laptops's speakers is OK. I fiddled with the available mixers but couldnt get anything. There seem to be 5 different mixers (HDA, ALSA, OSS), 3 for the playback and 2 for the capture.

I have sound on my main speakers and I can control volume from the desktop's icon tray volume control on the screen.However, my headphones were working just fine until all of a sudden they just stopped working. I tried other headphones but no change.Also, my volume control on my keyboard suddenly stopped working too.Any ideas how I can get the headphones and keyboard volume control working again?

The only one I have found is xvkbd, but it is very limited and somewhat glitchy. I tried setting it to Japanese, but all that does is add a button to switch to japanese that you annoyingly have to hit every time you want to enter a character. And not only that, even though the keyboard is in hiragana, it inputs katakana. Are there any other options for a virtual Japanese keyboard, or at least a way to get xvkbd to input hiragana?

I've been looking for a similar way to accomplish this in (KDE) Kubuntu. I know that you can right-click on a window in the Task Manager and use "To Desktop" to move a window, but I'm just curious if the same thing can be accomplished with the keyboard.

Now, at the login, when I click Others, and prompted to type a username, when I clicked on the virtual keyboard at the bottom right corner of my screen, the I-beam icon looses focus from the entry box, and each character pressed on the virtual keyboard does not appear on the entry box. When I try to click on the entry box, focus cannot be returned to the entry (ie. the I-beam icon does not flash at the entry box).

The package installs fine, but when I try to run it lkl -l -k /usr/share/lkl/keymaps/us_km -o ./kbd.log & it hogs the CPU usage to 50% and never logs a keystroke (in fact the kbd.log file is never created)
