I've just configured midi to work on OpenSuse 11.2, using the configuration instructions here.
When I play a midi file, all other sound on the system is knocked out and is unusable until I reboot. No idea how to start trouble shooting.
Trying to convert a midi file I created in Rosegarden into a wav file using Sound Converter. Snd Cnvrtr wants to load some gstreamer "bad" plugins, but they end up conflicting with "good" plugins and "ugly' plugins that had been loaded in the kernel (I think). Thought I might remove gstreamer and load up the "bad" plugins, but that meant removing a huge chunk of programming including Snd Cnvrtr. Anyone got any idea how I might do the conversion apart from Snd Cnvrtr? Either that or how I might get hold of the appropriate plugins to allow the midi to wav conversion to take place?

At this point the hardware consists of a simple UART bridge, and I've already written a simple C++ program using termios to send the raw midi data to the device. Obviously I don't want to write a player/sequencer from scratch, so where should I start if I wanted to get this thing to work with, say, a sequencer like rosegarden? Do I write the driver for rosegarden, or hook into alsa or what?

I have an internal PCI sound card, and I would like to find out what MIDI capabilities it has, if any. It is currently using the ens1370 ALSA driver. It has the standard Line in, Line out, and Mic jacks, as well as what appears to be a game port. I think it has some MIDI capabilities, because "cat /dev/snd/midiC0D0" does not fail with "no such device or address," but I don't know if it has MIDI input capabilities, or if it can synthesize, or what. Is there any way to tell?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using ubuntu 9.10 (kernel 2.6.31-9-rt) and an M-Audio Delta 1010 PCI sound card, and trying to get MIDI inputs and outputs to work on this sound card.I have Jack installed and working. MIDI signals from virtual keyboard or a MIDI player can be routed to fluidsynth, and fluidsynth's audio can be played back through the outputs of the delta 1010.I can use a MIDI sequencer (e.g. rosegarden or qtractor) to record MIDI from virtual keyboard, with jack handling the routing.
But, no matter how I configure the connections in jack, I can't get any signals from the "MIDI In" port on the sound card.Does anybody have some thoughts on how to fix this? Where is the disconnect between the delta 1010 and qtractor? I am concerned also that the "MIDI In" LED on the front panel of the Delta 1010 never blinks. There must be some basic ALSA configuration that needs to be done to activate and use these MIDI ports, or something. I've been trying to figure it out for days.
Here's the problem of mine: I cannot make my EMU10k1 based sound card (Audigy 2 ZS) to play midi.
What I tried to make it work so far:
1. Install sound fonts: unison.sf2 and FluidR3_GS.sf2
2. Use asfxload to load these soundfonts.
3. Check if they are truly loaded:

I have bought an Intel NUC pc with Debian with debian-7.9.0-amd64-netinst installed. After using for a short while I have noticed that it makes my broadband stop. Once I unplug it the broadband is OK again. I have tried everything but can't find a solution.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI backed up all my data and installed F15. The installation went fine. I did everything like I normally do. This is not my first rodeo so I am pretty sure I didn't do anything. When it goes to GRUB all it shows is Fedora and "Other". No memcheck, Fedora recovery, nothing. When I went to Other expecting to boot into Windows it said BOOTMGR not found. Normally I deal with Ubuntu though. The partition was not formatted. Everything is their. There is a file on the C drive called BOOTMGR. So how do I get back to being able to booting Windows? I am pretty good with Linux and I know my way around the terminal so you don't have to take it easy on me.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter installing an external sound card, Im having some weird issues. The cards chipset is fully supported by suse, (CM8738) so I dont think thats the problem. Besides, I'm getting sound, but not in some applications. The system's sounds work just fine (login, logout themes) amarok plays without any problems, kaffeine, mplayer they all work flawlessly, in fact I can see the difference in quality between the onboard sound and my new card. However, no web browser is able to play any sound at all, firefox, opera or chrome, nothing,zip. Plus, vlc cant reproduce sound either, nor can smplayer.
I've tried switching channels on and off(muting)in kmixer and in alsamixer, on the console, with no results. I disabled the onboard audio on the bios before installing the new card, however my ati video card has integrated sound, which I cant disable.... I used to get this exact same problem randomly with the onboard sound, but I just had to go to kmixer and turn up the "pcm" channel volume, which was set to 0, and I had sound again on my browser. However this card's pcm channel is at max and turning it up or down affects the whole systems volume, not just the browser's. Is it better to just reinstall the sound system, if so how could I do that.
I've got an urgent problem! I had some viruses as my program told me and in the end I had to restart my eee pc!Problem is now after it starts and you click on the log me in icon for the netbook it makes the nice hello sound, takes some time and then does the shut down (goodbye) sound. So basically the netbook booted already right? But I cant log myself in! What can I do?

I installed pulse-audio everything worked great except i couldn't get sound out of wow if i started mangler first and vice-versa. I then found a version of Mangler that worked with alsa. So i uninstalled mangler and pulse-audio, installed mangler-alsa. Everything works great now. The problem is when i uninstalled Pulse-audio i lost all my sliders in Yast > Hardware > Sound > other > volume. The only thing that shows up is master volume > Test. My sound works great just can't adjust anything. How do i get my sliders back. I would like some advice before i screw something up. I recently bought a set of 2.1 speakers, all is fine. I like to listen to my DAB radio through them. When I boot up, (runlevel 3), sound is there via the mic/line-in jack, but as soon as KDE starts, the sound cuts. I can get it back by:~>alsamixerand then F6 and then scroll to mic, switching to ON and slider up to full and then mic boost up to 65% or so.Can I tell something in KDE to default to mic/line-in on?kmix does not give the full picture I see in other's posts, like here:ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hostingjust a single slider under each tab, like this:

Maybe it's just an Amarok2 problem, but whenever another app (for example Konversation) plays a sound file, the audio instantly cuts out (in Amarok2) and will not come back unless I quit Amarok2 and restart it.
Amarok2 has only the options - "HDA ATI SB VT 1708S Analog" or "PulseAudio" (which is NOT installed).

I encountered this on a 10.3 system but there might be similar problem with the 11 series. Having gone through the business of obtaining config info on this card via pnpdump and subsequently using Yast to configure and install it, I encountered a situation whereby the card was fully functional as far as the "Test Sound" option of Yast was concerned. However, after a reboot, it was not loaded and no sound was possible. Debugging the "alsasound" script, I discovered that the directory /proc/asound was not in place at that time and, therefore, sound was not started.
The solution was to add the module name (snd_sbawe) to /etc/sysconfig/kernel to the parameter "MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT". Seems like Yast did not see a reason to do this itself.
I recently installed the x64 rpm of OSS on my Opensuse 11.2 installation (alsa does not have drivers for my lynx card). Sound works beautifully in KDE (login sounds, apps produce sound, etc), EXCEPT for firefox. I can get no sound at all from firefox. I am baffled at why only firefox does not play audio.

I have configured my sound drivers many times. After doing this i am able to listen a sound. But after booting there is necessary to configure them again. So is there a any way for permanent configuration.

I installed 11.3 but haven't been able to get any sound out of it. The laptop is a Compaq Presario CQ45-307tx (more specs at link below) [URL] The first thing I tried was I updating the alsa firmware using the konsole command "zypper install alsa-firmware". The firmware updated fine, but still no sound. The next thing I tried was editing a file based on the advice found at the link below. [URL] This didn't work either, but I wasn't too optimistic to begin with due the differences between our systems.

Need to make it an MP3 or OGG or any kind of standard audio file. With Timidity: I'm using version 2.13.2. Found this advice: [URl]... Isn't it awesome and clear and well put together? If your wondering yes the file will play for me from Timidity and I can hear it fine. Problem is there's no "Config" on my version. Closest thing is when i click file and save config. Normal click doesn't open the menu, gotta click and hold, which i do, then drag the cursor down to where i want it and release, nothing happened. It also said meta + S would open it, that's super/windows key + S, right? No luck.

Apparently you can use Audacity to record the output of the sound card directly. However I can't seem to figure out how to set this. It says in the into there's a preferences drop down next to the mixer thingy, maybe i'm blind but I can't find it anywhere.
I have been researching this for a few days and I am getting nowhere. All I want to do is play midi files in Ubuntu 10.04 and also in Firefox. If I install, for ex. Rosegarden it will play the midi but without sound.I have timidity installed as well as mozplugger. From the start midis partially work in Totem, but the sound is far from right.
I never had this much of an issue with midi before, really starting to irritate me.Is this a pulseaudio issue? I really don't feel like playing around with jack either, never have luck with it. It seems that installing timidty should have allowed me to play midi files on my computer.
Currently enjoying TuxGuitar, but I was wondering if there is a way to use some sort of Creative Commons drum kit samples instead of the current MIDI drums. Also would like to use some sort of synth or samples for guitars. I have looked for tutorials on this, but have not found anything yet.
