Software :: Importing Eudora (Windoze) Mailboxes Into Evolution?

Jul 20, 2009

I have recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 JJ on several ex-windoze/dual boot machines for my family. All has gone well apart from one niggle with email. We have used Eudora for years and been quite happy with it. Having looked at the Linux offerings I found the Evolution packaged with Ubuntu offered the most similar feature set (correct me if I'm wrong - I have not looked at a huge selection). All is well except for one or two little problems importing Eudora mailboxes -

1) all 'sent' mails seem to lose the date/time information - I have tried the import feature on Evolution and also manually moving the mailboxes. In both cases the messages are fine but no date information is carried over. Received mails are fine in both cases. This makes proper archiving very difficult.

2) mails lose the 'replied/reply' flags. Now the second is no big deal and may be a 'feature' of Eudora not implementing the Berkeley format correctly (or the feature doesn't exist anyway). The first however is a bit of a devil - if it is incorrect format by Eudora then shame on them.

I have a copy of old Eudora mbox files. I need to import them to Thunderbird. When I use the Import function, it does not provide a way to locate the mbox files. I've even installed the OSE Eudora, but, how that looks just like Thunderbird. Forks? Again, Eudora does not provide a way to import the files directly.

Ubuntu :: Evolution - Importing Calendar From Outlook .pst?

Mar 12, 2011

I have tried to import my calendar from an Outlook 2010 .pst file twice and have had the same error both times. Appointments import successfully, but the start time (and end time) is advanced by 8 hours. For example, an appointment in Outlook with the correct start time of 12:30pm appears in Evolution with a start time of 8:30pm. I have confirmed that my system time and time zone are identical and correct in WinXP/Outlook and Ubuntu/Evolution.

Software :: Importing Evolution Files To Thunderbird?

Oct 3, 2009

I have what I believe to be an Evolution mail archive which I now find the need to access. For each mailbox, I see these files

bash-3.1$ ls Inbox*
Inbox Inbox.cmeta Inbox.ev-summary Inbox.ibex.indexInbox.ibex.index.data

On the original cdr backup, there is also Inbox.sbd/ which appears to be an empty directory. I can read this stuff with mutt -f Inbox, but mutt has it's limitations. I would like to be able to get them into thunderbird, or even gmail. What's the trick? When I boot thunderbird, it doesn't really want to know.

Ubuntu :: Importing Nested Mail Folders To Evolution?

But, I need to import my nested, hierarchical mail folders (over 200) from Thunderbird on XP in to Evolution. Is there any speedier and less laborious way than importing single mail folders and then having to re-arrange them all?

Software :: Importing Outlook's Global Address List Contacts To Evolution?

Apr 8, 2010

importing GAL to evolution:

1. In Xp open MS-Access create blank database.

2. From File->Get External Data->Import, Select file type as exchange()

3. Import contacts to new table, u can delete unwanted columns from this table. Now export this table to a csv file.

4. Following is simple code which takes contacts.csv as input and convert these contacts to vcf file which can be imported to evolution.

5. The contact.csv should be of format

FirstName,LastName,emailID
#include <stdio.h>
#include <string.h>
#include <errno.h>

[code]....

6. uuidgen should be present on your linux box. you can have other validations and field too as per your need. but these three fields worked best for m

7. ./a.out contact.csv output.vcf Now in evolution go to Contacts->File Import->Import single file, select output.vcf and File type as vcf.

Ubuntu Installation :: Get Eudora 8 Installed In 10.04 - Failed

May 19, 2010

Trying to get Eudora 8 installed in 10.04, but when I follow the Eudora instructions it fails. Here they are: The README file instructs thusly:

1. After downloading the file, open up a terminal window.

2. In the terminal window type in the following:

sudo tar -C /opt -xvf <place where you downloaded the file> (I assume they mean /home/pan/Downloads/. When I tried this, I put in sudo tar -C opt -xvf /home/pan/Eudora-8.0b9.en-US.linux-i686.tar.bz2. Fail.

tar: Record size = 8 blocks
tar: opt: Cannot chdir: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now)

3. Then create a link for easy execution by typing: sudo ln -s /opt/eudora/eudora /usr/local/bin/eudora

4. After installation is complete, we recommend that you read the README.txt file (this file) in /opt/eudora.

5. You will then be able to run Eudora from any command prompt by just typing in "eudora" (no quotes). If I can get past part 2 i am sure I am ok. Ideas what I am doing wrong?

Fedora Servers :: VNC Through SSH With Windoze?

Jan 17, 2010

I've been shaking my head these last few days trying to VNC into my Linux machine from my Windoze 7 machine using SSH. Here is what I've currently done so far:I have SSH configured using port 8567, and have opened the tcp port 8567 in my firewall. I am able to ssh into the linux machine using putty on windoze, and do anything on the command line just fine. Here is what I did with the VNC:I've installed VNC server with the command:yum install VNC-ServerAfter this I went and edited the the /etc/sysconfig/vncservers file:VNCSERVERS=7:billygoatVNCSERVERARGS[2]="-geometry 800x600 -nolisten tcp -localhostThen I started the servicevncserver :7 -localhost

From what I gathered from other postings is that I don't have to open anymore ports for VNC in the firewall, because I'm going to "tunnel" using SSH and port 8567, that's what I needed to add localhost. Now I've set up putty for tunneling with the source port of 5901, and a destination port of localhost:5901.Ok, now when I connect, I can ssh just fine, log in and navigate through all my files. However when I start Real VNC and type in localhost:1, and click connect, I always get the error message: The connection closed unexpectedly. Do you wish to attempt to reconnect to localhost:1?

General :: Mutt Nested Mailboxes Navigation Possible?

Feb 18, 2010

I receive a lot of emails daily, and with the ever-growing amount of maildirs I'm in need to structure/optimize the browsing in mutt. My maildirs follow this naming scheme: .domain.category.sub_category

My goal is to break domain, category and sub_category into nested levels when browsing through the mailboxes. This is sort of achieved through the use of imap. But I stumble upon a few snags, so my questions are:

Is this nested mailboxes view possible by directly accessing ~/Mail and not using IMAP?
E.g. set folder="~/Mail" and set spoolfile="~/Mail/.INBOX"
When I start mutt I'm presented with all mailboxes available, which is what I want to get away from. I want to get directed directly into my default/main inbox like I do when accessing ~/Mail directly. How?

When hitting c (a defined macro, see configuration below) I again get presented with all the mailboxes available, and not the mailboxes at the current browsing level, e.g. mailboxes containing a specific category. To get this view I need to hit c+TAB. I've solved this by adding a <tab> to the c macro's. When finally getting mutt to present me mailboxes in nested levels they are only enumerated and not annotated with N, indicating new mail, or even better, total number of new mails in or under a folder. I know it's possible to define format on the different views, but is there one for this view? If so, which?

My mutt configuration:
set autoedit
set edit_headers
set reverse_name
set from='blapp'
set realname='Blapp'
set use_from .....

# Automatic viewing of html mail, but always prefer text/plain
set implicit_autoview
alternative_order text/plain text/html

Software :: Easy Way Of Managing Virtual Mailboxes?

Dovecot is using separate user and password files per domain, But I cant expect other people to be able to manage text files and commands to update users.

I have been looking at virtualmin for complete management, but am wondering about how restrictive it will be on the rest of the server. So the question, is there an easy way (Or easier) of managing virtual mailboxes? OpenSUSE Install :: Cannot Start Windoze After Installing?

Jun 15, 2010

I would normally consider throwing the laptop out the window but I have not done that.YetHere's the situation. I got fed up with Windoze. So I downloaded Opensuse 11.2 onto a dvd. I then installed it.Ran/Started Opensuse for the first time... Wow. Beautiful, amazing, fast, etc etc. So.. Okay so far, except for one or 3 niggles, one of the main ones being that I could'nt connect to the Net.Anyway, I rebooted, and when the Startup (?)-Screen came up, it had 2 versions of Opensuse on the 'list' (one of them a Safe Mode), and ....3 versions of Windoze. Yeah.. Three. First bit of confusion.

I clicked on "Windows 1" and got a black scree with the words "Boot Mgr missing" (or similar), 'Press Ctrl Alt Del"..... Great, I thought. So I did that, anyway, and upon reboot tried "Windows 2" instead; same thing. Tried a third reboot, and "Windows 3". SAME. Now I'm P****d off.......Apparently, when it was installing, it said it would be 'Shrinking' Windows to make space. Would this have anything to do with it? How on earth do I get Windoze BACK, at least until I can try out another version of Opensuse OR a different Linux Distro????

Fedora :: About .run Files And Installing Windoze Software Under WINE?

Aug 21, 2010

How can I install software that comes as a .run file in a way that it is accessible at the command line and under the applications menu or the equivalent? I am aware that root privileges are required and know how to get them. The publisher of the software does not publish .rpm files.

The distribution I am using now, which will remain nameless other than it is not Fedora, is very secure, but nobody seems willing or able to tell me how to do this. There is an old version of the software for my distribution available, but it is three releases and likely a couple of years old. I looked around the file system, found the executable, but it was a small file that probably calls the real executable under another name.

The software in question is a electronic circuit capture and printed circuit board design program. I have numerous projects and a library I need access to.As for installing the Windoze (Quattro Pro) software, I couldn't get it to install at all, even with root privileges. (WINE complained I didn't have root privileges when I invoked it at the # prompt. I couldn't determine how to install the software on anything other than XP. ) I wasn't and remain uninterested in debugging multimegabyte spreadsheets a second time

Debian Configuration :: Make Mailboxes For Each Virtual Host On Server?

Mar 1, 2010

I'm using Debian 5 with Exim 4 on my VPS. My purpose is to make mailboxes for each virtual host on my server. What do I have: 1. But [URL]... is the site written to /etc/hosts (it's localhost), and [URL]... is virtual host. But mail from both boxes writes to /var/mail/mail. Now what do I need: 1. Make mail for [URL]... store in [URL].... and mail for [URL].. store in www/Maildir. 2. Make mailboxes like [URL].... to receive mail by Thunderbird. 3. Set passwords for [URL]... and [URL]... Fedora Servers :: Migrate Local Users And Sendmail Mailboxes?

Apr 21, 2010

I found 2 previous posts, one from 2005 and one from 2006. The 2005 post was not very helpful and the 2006 threads are not exactly what I was expecting. So I wanted to ask the question to be sure. I have already stood up the new fedora 12 server. The old server is also fedora 12. I need to migrate local users and sendmail mailboxes. In the past couple of years the environment was small enough to create a copy of the users and then have the users mail themselves, but I want to start migrating users/mailboxes properly.

On a unix level I am a jr admin, but I have extensive senior level experience as a windows engineer and network engineer. I do feel comfortable with using the unix command line, but usually operate the unix systems thru webmin because I am not familular with more complex commands. Ideally a software solution to migrate users and/or mailboxes from one server to another is what I am looking for, but in leiu of a software solution I still need to migrate user accounts and their mailboxes. LDAP is not in place, but if the process becomes easier with LDAP I am willing to do what is needed to set up LDAP. (I have no previous experience setting up LDAP)

I do not want to change my mail server from sendmail to different software. At least right now. Both systems are up and running. They can connect to each other via public ipv4 address' only. The new server has already been installed and configured with all the software to match the old server. How do I migrate users and sendmail mailboxes from one fedora 12 server to another fedora 12 server?

OpenSUSE :: Version Of Evolution - Running The Evolution Mail System Under Fedora - 15 / KDE

Jul 26, 2011

I've been running the Evolution mail system under Fedora-15/KDE for about a month now, and it has some very serious problems. I just noticed that it is available for SUSE, and figured that since KDE is the principal desktop supported by KDE the SUSE version may be fixed. Before I go through the very tedious process of getting the SUSE version to compile on Fedora, I'd like to know whether anyone has seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution:It ignores font control from the KDE Settings->Applications Appearance window, both KDE font control and GTK+ font control, also its own internal font control window.

It has trouble sending messages to an SMTP server, sometimes taking a l-o-n-g time, sometimes timing out. This can be temporarily cured by restarting it It crashes when a filter attempts to refile an outgoing message. It often asks if I want to recover messages that have never been lost. It often locks up receiving mail from a remote POP3 server. I can live with these, except for items 1 and 2, since I have workarounds. If you are fairly sure that you have not seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution
