Software :: Importing Evolution Files To Thunderbird?

Oct 3, 2009

I have what I believe to be an Evolution mail archive which I now find the need to access. For each mailbox, I see these files

bash-3.1$ ls Inbox*
Inbox Inbox.cmeta Inbox.ev-summary Inbox.ibex.indexInbox.ibex.index.data

On the original cdr backup, there is also Inbox.sbd/ which appears to be an empty directory. I can read this stuff with mutt -f Inbox, but mutt has it's limitations. I would like to be able to get them into thunderbird, or even gmail. What's the trick? When I boot thunderbird, it doesn't really want to know.

Software :: Importing Thunderbird Settings From Portable Apps Thunderbird

Sep 13, 2010

I had a portable apps version of Thunderbird (windows) that runs off a thumb drive and wanted to take the settings and transfer them to my Thunderbird that's on my Linux computer.

This is what I did:

First, I installed thunderbird on my Ubuntu 10.04 Linux box and opened it, and closed it (so that it would create the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder in the user account).

Then, I renamed the linux /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder to .thunderbird_ORIGINAL

Then, I created a new /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder

Then, I took the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableDataprofile folder and copied it to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.

Then, I looked into the /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL folder and wrote down the name of the folder with the ".default" extension.

Then, I renamed the profile folder (that came from the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableData folder) "<name-I-wrote-down>.default".

And then, I copied the profiles.ini folder from /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.

I opened up Thunderbird in Linux and everything seems fine! (I'll definitely be keeping a backup just in case)

My question is: is this fine and dandy, or a recipe for disaster?

Ubuntu Installation :: Thunderbird Add-on For Importing From Live Mail

Jul 27, 2010

Would anyone have a recommendation for a Thunderbird extension or add-on for importing e-mail from Live Mail? I have a dual installation of win7 & Ubuntu 10.04. Ultimately, I want to import my e-mail archive into Thunderbird on the Ubuntu partition. For the transition, I have both Thunderbird and Windows Live Mail on the win7 side. I'm running Thunderbird 3.0.6, though I could upgrade.

I have been looking for a replacement for ACT (I recently migrated from XP) and this looks like it might fit the bill. Is it possible to import all of my emails, contacts, folders etc from TB into Evolution. I would like to try it out and see if it works for me. I am in sales and need a program to keep track of leads.

Ubuntu :: Evolution - Importing Calendar From Outlook .pst?

Mar 12, 2011

I have tried to import my calendar from an Outlook 2010 .pst file twice and have had the same error both times. Appointments import successfully, but the start time (and end time) is advanced by 8 hours. For example, an appointment in Outlook with the correct start time of 12:30pm appears in Evolution with a start time of 8:30pm. I have confirmed that my system time and time zone are identical and correct in WinXP/Outlook and Ubuntu/Evolution.

Ubuntu :: Importing Nested Mail Folders To Evolution?

Nov 9, 2010

Just installed latest Ubuntu (dual boot with XP until settled in) and also installed Evolution as default mail client. All works well. But, I need to import my nested, hierarchical mail folders (over 200) from Thunderbird on XP in to Evolution. Is there any speedier and less laborious way than importing single mail folders and then having to re-arrange them all?

Software :: Importing Eudora (Windoze) Mailboxes Into Evolution?

Jul 20, 2009

I have recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 JJ on several ex-windoze/dual boot machines for my family. All has gone well apart from one niggle with email. We have used Eudora for years and been quite happy with it. Having looked at the Linux offerings I found the Evolution packaged with Ubuntu offered the most similar feature set (correct me if I'm wrong - I have not looked at a huge selection). All is well except for one or two little problems importing Eudora mailboxes -

1) all 'sent' mails seem to lose the date/time information - I have tried the import feature on Evolution and also manually moving the mailboxes. In both cases the messages are fine but no date information is carried over. Received mails are fine in both cases. This makes proper archiving very difficult.

2) mails lose the 'replied/reply' flags. Now the second is no big deal and may be a 'feature' of Eudora not implementing the Berkeley format correctly (or the feature doesn't exist anyway). The first however is a bit of a devil - if it is incorrect format by Eudora then shame on them.

Software :: Importing Outlook's Global Address List Contacts To Evolution?

Apr 8, 2010

importing GAL to evolution:

1. In Xp open MS-Access create blank database.

2. From File->Get External Data->Import, Select file type as exchange()

3. Import contacts to new table, u can delete unwanted columns from this table. Now export this table to a csv file.

4. Following is simple code which takes contacts.csv as input and convert these contacts to vcf file which can be imported to evolution.

5. The contact.csv should be of format

FirstName,LastName,emailID
#include <stdio.h>
#include <string.h>
#include <errno.h>

[code]....

6. uuidgen should be present on your linux box. you can have other validations and field too as per your need. but these three fields worked best for m

7. ./a.out contact.csv output.vcf Now in evolution go to Contacts->File Import->Import single file, select output.vcf and File type as vcf.

Fedora :: Add BCC To Thunderbird Or Evolution?

Feb 23, 2010

i finally tried to use a mail client other than gmail, and can't figure out how to Bcc someone. Evolution has a CC field, but i don't see how to make a Bcc field. Thunderbird doesn't show either one. Anyone know how to do this? Btw, it took me about 2 or 4 minutes to setup Evolution, but Thunderbird just asked for my email and password, and set itself up in seconds! I guess that i will be using Thunderbird, since it seems that they're not messing around.in thunderbird, once you already have an email address in the "To" field, you can click the "To:" label, and it opens a drop down menu, and then you can select Bcc.

Ubuntu :: Evolution Vs Thunderbird: Which Is Best For 11.04

Aug 1, 2011

Ive been running 11.04 and unity Desktop a few months now, and now Id like to choose a good email client. I want something that will handle my Hotmail, Yahoo and GMail accounts as well as my old POP accounts. I want something thats easy to hookup to all those old accounts and allow me to move emails between mailboxes (I have a few mailboxes and some of them have rules about auto-directing emails into them). I used TBird a few years/releases ago and it was fine for POP/SMTP, but I never got the Webmail hookups to work. Which is best? Thunderbird or Evolution?

Ubuntu :: Thunderbird Integration - How To Get Rid Of Evolution

Jun 10, 2010

I've got it in the notifications, I've got it in the indicator applet... How do I get rid of the evolution buttons in the indicator and get a working "Dynamic" Thunderbird one? (With the compose message, inbox buttons etc) Need the indicator to respond and look like the mail icon. Also, does Thunderbird have a "Silent mode" where it can run without a window and show notifications when needed? Is there a way to have contacts in a tab? I need to switch cause evolution is driving me insane with the constant password requests... It could fill up the hundred paper-cuts all on its own...

Ubuntu :: Want Thunderbird To Function As Evolution

Jul 5, 2011

I'd just like to know if there's a way to get Thunderbird to be setup, or have Ubuntu be setup (whichever is more feasible) so that the little white envelope on the task bar turns green when I get a new message in one of the mail accounts I setup in Thunderbird. I'd also like to know how to get it to play a sound when I receive a new email. I already setup Thunderbird as my default mail client. I also already setup the sound to be played in Thunderbird when I receive an email as "the default sound for new mail".

Lastly, this may be pushing my luck, but, it would be great if thunderbird's calendar could function as my systems default calendar and work with all the features, such as appointment reminders.I'd prefer not to have to install mail-notification, but I'll do it as a last resort. It makes my single panel bar cluttered and takes up additional resources on my rapidly aging system.

Ubuntu :: Features Missing In Thunderbird & Evolution

Feb 20, 2010

I am using Thunderbird for quite a long time now.

The problem is that I found that the feature which allows a user to use an audio file for new mail alerts is missing. I am using version 2.0.0.23. Now a popup showing new mails is working but it becomes very tiresome to always look at the monitor screen.

Moving to a new mail client is not an issue for me but this one big feature that Thunderbird has is holding me back.

That feature is the ability to encrypt the locally stored password with a "Master Password".

I used Evolution Mail client for a short time and liked it too but again the "Master Password" feature is missing.

Is there a way to enable sound alerts (new mails) in Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 ?

Does the latest version of evolution includes the "Master Password" feature? (I don't want to do all that configuration without asking.)

General :: Escape From Evolution And Have Thunderbird Be My Default Email?

Feb 25, 2011

Fedora 14

When I started I took the defaults and ended up with Evolution.

I have never managed to get it set up to send. It and godaddy are on diffferent planets.

Having used Thunderbird in the past, I downloaded it and it automagically set itself up to send and receive.

So now I use Thunderbird - BUT - when I click on a link in an html page - the mailto macro sends me to something other than THunderbird - perhaps Evolution - and nothing gets sent.

So how do I tell the system that when i click a mailto in firefox I want Thunderbird?

PS I think I found it. In firefox - edit - preferences - applications tab - mmailto - it said Evolution. I changed it so say /usr/bin/thunderbird - will now test it.

YES - Seems that asking a question triggers my brain on how to resolve it. Sorry to waste your time.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Importing AVCHD Files

Nov 25, 2010

When importing files from my digital camera, I find it less confusing to open a folder and then drag the files to where I want them on my hard drive rather than to have Shotwell do it automatically (as described by jennacav in this post). That's straightforward for photo files, but what about for video files? On my camera, they are stored in an AVCHD folder, which itself has several folders and subfolders. Does this mean that I have to drag the files over as a group, or is there some way they can be handled individually as photos can be? (I'm new to both Ubuntu and digital photography.....)
