OpenSUSE Hardware :: Reload The Firmware Come Up With Device Not Connected Errors (even Under Windoze XP)?

Mar 12, 2010

My old Creative Zen MP3 player has just gone titsup - it's gone into recovery mode and attempts to reload the firmware come up with device not connected errors (even under Windoze XP) So I'm looking around for a replacement and the Cowon D2 looks good as it takes SD cards like the zen (and I'd just bought 2 new 8Gb cards). The Zen used mtpfs which worked under linux but not well an I believe the D2 just connects as USB memory. Anyone out there using a Cowon D2 under Linux?

OpenSUSE Install :: Firmware Test Reported 4 Errors

Nov 29, 2009

After installing 64 bit 11.2 with no apparent problems: computer hangs up on desktop boot opensuse 11.2-2.6.31.5-0.1, however I can boot from failsafe opensuse 11.2-2.6.31.5-0.1. I had problems trying to install Ubuntu so I checked out the opensuse. I do not know if this is an easy fix! I decided to avoid buying anymore windows system software. I ran memory test with no problems. The firmware test reported 4 errors. I have windows XP installed on other hard drive - no problems there.

General :: How To Tell Xorg To Reload Input Device Module

May 14, 2010

When X.org boots up, Synaptics touchpad works well. But when I remove the module it falls back to /dev/input/mice and don't use normal driver even when touchpad is available again.

Xorg.0.log:
...
(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Synaptics Touchpad" (type: TOUCHPAD)
(--) Synaptics Touchpad: touchpad found
# { rmmod psmouse && echo mem > /sys/power/state && modprobe psmouse; }
(WW) : No Device specified, looking for one...
(II) : Setting Device option to "/dev/input/mice"
...

How to tell X.org to try it's InputDevice again (without restarting X server)? rmmod psmouse is needed to prevent crashing of Acer Extensa 5220 when resuming from suspend-to-ram. Found answer myself: Doing xinput set-int-prop "Synaptics Touchpad" "Device Enabled" 8 1 after reloading the kernel module reloads touchpad. Now suspend-to-ram works OK.

Ubuntu :: Error: Device-mapper: Reload Ioctl Failed: Invalid Argument

Jun 13, 2010

I'm having some difficulities with truecrypt and cannot figure out what's wrong since this is my first attempt to create hidden encrypted partition. I'm using ubuntu 9.10 64b with latest 6.3a truecrypt. After using truecrypt gui (just command truecrypt) I've tried: create volume-->create volumne within a partition/drive-->hidden trucrypt volume --> select some /dev/sdX by my choice --> select aes & sha512 --> password --> and format it.

when formating finished message "wrong ss, swith or wrong superblock of /dev/loop0" appeared. I've got no idea what could I do with it neither know whats program trying to do! Ok formating's done, then if you're trying to mount that partition then I would expect prompt for password, but that did not happen ...

EDIT: sudo mount /dev/loop0 /media/tmp/ also complaint about wrong superblock, but that does not ring any bell since i've got no idea what /dev/loop0 is or is for...

EDIT2: I've tried another approach also:

sudo truecrypt -t -c
sudo truecrypt -t /dev/sda3 --filesystem=none

but the first command finished creating 100G drive in 1 sec (nonsense) and latter one prints:

Error: device-mapper: reload ioctl failed: Invalid argument
Command failed

OpenSUSE :: Would It Be Better To Use Windoze As Host OS

Mar 10, 2010

I know the fairly straightforward and obvious answer to this question, but I wanted to get the peoples' thoughts and feedback about it.I need to use Windoze for general work and school reasons. There have been a few things, namely ActiveX controls, that I have been unable to port to Linux. My question is: would it be better to use Windoze or Linux as the host OS, and why?

OpenSUSE Install :: Cannot Start Windoze After Installing?

Jun 15, 2010

I would normally consider throwing the laptop out the window but I have not done that.YetHere's the situation. I got fed up with Windoze. So I downloaded Opensuse 11.2 onto a dvd. I then installed it.Ran/Started Opensuse for the first time... Wow. Beautiful, amazing, fast, etc etc. So.. Okay so far, except for one or 3 niggles, one of the main ones being that I could'nt connect to the Net.Anyway, I rebooted, and when the Startup (?)-Screen came up, it had 2 versions of Opensuse on the 'list' (one of them a Safe Mode), and ....3 versions of Windoze. Yeah.. Three. First bit of confusion.

I clicked on "Windows 1" and got a black scree with the words "Boot Mgr missing" (or similar), 'Press Ctrl Alt Del"..... Great, I thought. So I did that, anyway, and upon reboot tried "Windows 2" instead; same thing. Tried a third reboot, and "Windows 3". SAME. Now I'm P****d off.......Apparently, when it was installing, it said it would be 'Shrinking' Windows to make space. Would this have anything to do with it? How on earth do I get Windoze BACK, at least until I can try out another version of Opensuse OR a different Linux Distro????

Debian Configuration :: 7.2.0 - Mount WiFi Device Just After Pushing Firmware

Jun 18, 2015

Working on Debian 7.2.0.

In a specific context I want to automatically make operationnal some USB WiFI devices, deploying automaticaly firwmare (may be not free packages) depending on device ID (vendor ID/product ID). Dev device is a Netgear WNA1000 (driver ath9k, with htc_9271.fw firmware).

I tried to reset the USB bus (modprobe -vr ehci_hcd; modprobe -v ehci_hcd) but it's not really reliable, with sometimes kernel panic.

Is there an "official" way to "mount" the device (the system create the device wlan0) just after deploying the firmware? Maybe using udev ?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Gotten EMU 0404 PCI W/ 1.0 Firmware Or 0004 Device ID Working?

May 26, 2010

This is a problem that has been stabbing at me for years now. I have a nice pro-m soundcard - the EMU 0404 - with the cursed "1102:0004" device ID. I am wondering if anyone has gotten the early version of the 0404 (0004 / firmware 1.0 version) of the card working with Linux? All the information I can find is a couple years out of date. Maybe everyone just gave up when the later versions of the cards started to work with ALSA, but I really can't afford to replace this thing.

Regardless, if anyone has gotten this to work please let me know. If I really just need to resign myself to throwing the card away / taking a $150 loss on a new one, I'd also like to know,

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless - Device Not Ready - Firmware Missing

Jul 23, 2011

I thought I'd give Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal??) a try on an old Dell Latitude D600 I had lying around. Install went great. Everything seems to run nice and slick.. except one thing.. the wireless is giving me the old "Device not ready (firmware missing)" So I can only use my lappy on a leash.

It's a pretty common Broadcom NIC... and I've tried running the System / Administration / Additional Drivers and nothing comes up.

It seems to me I need a driver someplace...I don't know where or how to get it installed.

The good news is that install went greeeeat. But after that, I once again got a black screen with a line randomly done it. Is there a way to change? I tried changing those resolution options but it didn't work. I have the Windoze driver from Dell's site. Its Dell Inspiron 5160.

OpenSUSE :: Reload Default Gnome3 Desktop?

Jun 23, 2011

I was playing with a theme (Atolm-GS) and followed the install instructions which stated to back up the /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme directory, and replace it with the one from the theme. I did this, logged off, logged on, got my wallpaper for a second, then the Oh No Screen. I logged off, logged in to IceWM, replaced the theme folder with the original, logged back in to Gnome3 and same thing. Alt+F4 does not get rid of the OH No screen. My ~/.xsessions-errors file contains the following:

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Check If Display Device Is Connected?

Feb 10, 2010

I am trying to write a script to turn my HTPC off automatically and turn it back on again at a specified interval.

I've got the turn on off bit sorted using /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm but I want the script to not turn the machine off if say something is downloading, I am currently watching something etc and i dont think I will have any trouble with that.

But what I would really like to be able to do is tell if my TV is currently on. I dont think anything x11 related would work here and this may not even be possible. Does Ubuntu "know" if it's display device is powered on or not? if so can I interrogate this somehow?

Debian Configuration :: Bluez Gatt Tool Not Connected To Hcix Device

Apr 19, 2016

Using jessie over 4.2.8 or 4.3.4 kernel.

Used both the default bluez package, 5.23 and building bluez 5.36 by hand.

hciconfig shows a good configuration,

hci0: Type: BR/EDR Bus: UART
BD Address: 78:A5:04:31:3C:4B ACL MTU: 1021:6 SCO MTU: 180:4
UP RUNNING
RX bytes:82105 acl:0 sco:0 events:1989 errors:0
TX bytes:516 acl:0 sco:0 commands:48 errors:0

hcidump -x does show Commands/Events received, beacons are being seen, and collected by our app.

> HCI Event: LE Meta Event (0x3e) plen 42
LE Advertising Report
ADV_IND - Connectable undirected advertising (0)
bdaddr F9:77:66:E8:F7:8B (Random)
Flags: 0x06

[Code] ....

However when the app tries to connect it always gets connection refused at gatt_connect.

gatttool behaves the same way, and hcidump does not show any connection attempts, implying no connection between gatttool and the device, although it is specified on the command line.

Finally although the bluetoothd is running bluetoothctl also shows no default controller found. I had edited /etc/bluetooth/uart.conf, adding an hciattach entry for the device but that changed nothing when restarting the bluetoothd. Entering a garbage entry into that file does not produce any errors, so I am not sure it is even being read.

Also systemctl|grep bluetooth shows :-

sys-devices-virtual-bluetooth-hci0-rfkill0.device loaded active plugged /sys/devices/virtual/bluetooth/hci0/rfkill0
sys-devices-virtual-bluetooth-hci0.device loaded active plugged /sys/devices/virtual/bluetooth/hci0
sys-subsystem-bluetooth-devices-hci0.device loaded active plugged /sys/subsystem/bluetooth/devices/hci0
bluetooth.target loaded active active Bluetooth

/sys/devices/virtual/bluetooth/hci0/address shows the correct MAC, but /sys/subsystem/bluetooth/devices/hci0 does not exist, a post elsewhere indicated this was not a problem but that seems odd.

Is the uart.conf file still used([URL] .... would suggest yes) and if so is the format a full hciattach command or merely the hciattach parameters?
