Software :: Get Gnu Screen -X Cmd Line Option To Work With Paste?

I'm trying to get gnu screen -X cmd line option to work with paste, to keep a ssh session alive. doesnt work! anybody know howto get screen to send a command to the shell its displaying regularily... to keep the ssh session alive.. The idea was, get screen to send date cmd to my remote ssh sessions regularily... but cant figure out howto automate that... If I get date into the buffer, paste command works, but have to do it my self defeating the goal.

I have inadvertently caused the main menu (Applications,Places and System) icons to change to a single icon, a white triangle. I've tried to put back the default but no luck. How can I restore the original?
On workspaces, I created a second workspace but the Workspace Switcher doesn't want to show the 2nd workspace; the display should show a blank window. Also the split screen option doesn't work. Do I need an applet (Pager) to sort this out?

But the paste button is grayed out.
I realise this is because I've logged in as a user rather than root, so how do I enable the paste option on this occasion so that I can paste these files?

my Setup is Fedora 14 x64 + radeon hd 4830 i've downloaded .run package from ati site with latest driver for x64 systems. installed it, but didn't edited grub.conf becouse i didn't understood anything there (probably didn't spent enough time to get things understand) Now i've lost possibility to enter my Fedora system. during boot it lost it's modern blue boot screen (with filling drop), it was replaced by standard old boot screen with triple-color stripe. after this boot screen monitor start blinking going on and off. and on last step i'm getting "Fedora 14 boot bla bla bla something" on screen. nothing works except Ctrl+Alt+Delete. system reboots showing successful daemons shutting sequence. How can i edit grub menu from initial grub screen is it possible to it's own 'e' option or 'c' from grub command line?

I am trying to upgrade PHP on our linux box ( CentOS ) I copied the configure command from the phpinfo and now I want to execute that.I am not able to copy the command from an editor in linux to the command prompt, clicking the wheel om my mouse does not work, neither does shift-insert or ctrl-shift-insert.It does work in the editor itself.Is there a way to do this ?Or is there a way to execute the command in linux while it is in the file ? Like a bat file on Windows ?

In Ubuntu, why does copy and past not work for most applications. I can't tell you how many times I have copied some text and went to a new application and Past is greyed out. For example, in Firefox I can highlight some text like "Belmont Diner", then right click and choose "Copy". Then go up to the Google search bar and right click and Paste is not an option. I have tried doing this using Crtl C to copy and Ctrl V to paste. It does not work...most of the time. Every once in a while it will but most of the time it does not. I can repeat the action to make sure I really copied the data and still no luck. Sometimes it works but many times it does not.

It's one of the features I always talk up to people I try to get to try Linux. I upgraded to Natty today and other than not super appreciating the inclusion of a default boot into Unity, I can't get the simple "highlight + click both touchpad buttons" to copy and paste between any application let alone within the same application. I have searched and searched for info on this. Nothing pops up. I've scanned the compiz settings. I just cannot figure this out.

I don't have a "CPU MHz" line in my /proc/cpuinfo. I wonder if this is because I installed a 32-bit Ubuntu (10.10, Maverick) on 64-bit (dual core) AMD hardware. Various apps depend on the "CPU MHz" value and simply refuse to run without it. Is it, indeed, a 32-bit software on 64-bit hardware thing? If so, is there any fix short of replacing (clean-installing) the whole system in 64-bit?

I'm looking for software which will allow me to record a screen-cast of a terminal based application, recording keystrokes, timing of keystrokes, and audio. I see a couple of advantages to this approach over video capture: Display independence: the viewer can display text in any resolution/style they want, not limited to the resolution of the recorded video. Ability to copy and paste text from the screencast.

I am having a problem with running the mplayer dvdnav option from the command line or terminal. I run the command and this is what I get:

I went on the forums and they say that some of the packages built to support dvdnav are out of date and that they should be updated. By the way I am running ubuntu 10.04 lucid lynx with lxde as my desktop manager.

Our office just switched from CentOs to Fedora and I'm trying to get everything set up. Everything is working so farbut im having a problem with my mounted cifs drives. They mount ok, I made directories in /mnt where the drives are readable and accessible. I'm only missing the shortcuts to the mounted drives in nautilus and on the desktop. I've checked the gconf editor and the volumes should be visible.Is there an extra option i have to add in the fstab line to get the shortcuts or something like that?

I got macbook pro 5.1 recently upgraded to 11.04, all works out of the box! I have a standard F15 installation with Gnome 3 from the live CD. I got bored and decided to play with a few other WMs and DEs. I installed KDE-base, but KDE does not appear as an option at login. Is there something else I need to install? XFCE, Openbox, and Classic Gnome with Compiz all appear in the menu. KDE does not.

I am trying to install Lucid on my Alienware M17x laptop.I loaded the install to my thumb drive and boot to my thumb drive but after the initial option screen, I see nothing. If I choose to run Ubuntu from the thumb drive, the screen goes blank and after a few seconds I hear the sound, but no Ubuntu on my screen.Am I missing some unspoken prep steps?

i have a dual boot. i loaded 9.1 on one disk and windows xp is on another. grub worked fine. i downloaded 10.4 and i must have selected the wrong option cause when i restarted it dropped me into a shell. i reloaded 9.1 and wiped out 10.4. again i must have selected the wrong option cause i get the grub menu with an option for windows but nothing happens. 9.1 comes up alright and i can select windows office files from ubuntu.

Well a few days ago I installed Ubuntu for the first time and I'm really enjoying it but there is one thing putting me off and making me want to go back to Windows regularly - the fact my mousepad scroll option doesn't work, something I require quite regularly.
I have googled things about fixes and I'm a beginner, so some of the things were too advanced for me and others didn't work. with this so I can have the best experience I can with the operating system.

I can see that in yum-updatesd configuration i can use smtp_server to rely mail notifications as per below outputs from man pages smtp_server SMTP server to use when sending mail, host or a hostort string. Defaults to localhost:25. The problem that this option doesn't work at all and it rely into the local MTA not the one set on the smtp_server

I am trying to use a F14 network install CD to upgrade on an old HP Pavilion 9695C (Athalon 850MHz, nVidia NV5 RIVA TNT2/TNT2 Pro AGP) with F12 on it. This same disk successfully upgraded a HP Omnibook 6000 with F12. I boot with the network install CD and get the initial menu to select to install/upgrade, install using basic video driver, etc. After selecting either upgrade or basic video driver install, I see the CD being read, then nothing, just a blank screen. I had a similar problem with F12 network install on this machine. So I tried adding "vga=0x318 nomodeset" to the upgrade boot options. The only difference is a quick flash on the screen, then a blinking "underscore character" cursor. The "install using basic video driver" has the same result.
Have also tried:linux nofb
vga=791 [nomodeset]
vga=1 [nomodeset]
xdriver=nv nomodeset
xdriver=vesa nomodeset
However, I always end up with a blank screen or blank screen with blinking underscore cursor. I know this particular AGP has problems with the nouveau driver. On F12 I had to force it to use the nv driver. I submitted a bug but there was no interest on it as this was F12 and F13 was the latest at the time. I did try to upgrade to F13, but ran into this same problem. I was hoping F14 would be better.
