View 1 RepliesI have BackInTime backing up my computer to a RAID cluster. The problem is that BackInTime doesn't have an option to limit disk space used. I also use this drive as a fileserver, and need to be able to keep some space open for that.
Is there a way that I can limit the amount of space a specific folder can take up? Alternately, is it possible to create a disk image that will only take up the amount of space in the image, but can automatically expand to a certain size? It would work similar to the Mac SpaseBundle format.

The problem is, when one person is downloading or watching ..... or whatever, the others using the internet suffer. We have for example servers that have a FTP and HTTP server running and whenever HTTP has a lot of connections open, the other uploads/downloads get a timeout. I know I can limit the number of connections but prefer to limit on protocol level. Is this possible using IPTABLES and if so, can someone indicate how to proceed or provide a link? If it's not possible can someone point me to the right tool for the job?

1. i want to limit the bandwidth to 400k/s per connection.
2. i also want to limit the max connection per user a/c
i have some thoughts on the 2nd requirement. in the user configuration file of /etc/ppp/chap-secret, you can specify the range of ip the user can get, does it limit the max connection per user a/c? or they can connect anyway, just every now and then a box pop up says conflict in IP address?
under 'System Settings < Keyboard & Mouse' I've already set the option 'Double click to open files and folders' but it doesn't seem to work with Dolphin.

Until recently I never came close to my allowed bandwidth of 1 TB but I expect that may change in the near future because I will be adding many files for downloading. I have Apache 2.2.9, PHP 5.2.6, mySQL 5.0.51 and Webmin 1.441.
The most critical thing is monitoring total bandwidth and then doing a job, probably using Cron to change a folder's name, to stop downloads before a critical point is reached and my sites shut down. I would also probably eventually like to limit member downloads so all members of the sites get a chance to download and one person doesn't use all the bandwidth. I expect that would be possible using php. to log the bandwidth used by members. I know php but I don't know how to get the bandwidth using php.

I am using KNetworkmanager-vpnc to VPN back to the office from home, the vpn connection works fine - for 15 minutes then I am disconnected. I am fairly certain that this is related to the Phase 1 key lifetime limit. The Knetworkmanager-vpnc GUI does not provide a location to enter this information. I think I found the config file that holds the connection information at /home/<user>/.kde/share/apps/networkmanagement/connections/ I just don't know the proper syntax to put in the file to specify a key life limit. Anyone out there know how to do this? I am using Fedora 14 x64 with knetworkmanager-vpnc 1.0.9-0.28.
