I'm trying to install a broadband internet USB stick from Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E1552 (HSPA modem) using wine. The installation requires 2 processes first was the izap installation which was sucessful and then the iboost installation which failed with the following error:

I'm trying to setup Baldur's Gate in Wine and it's giving me this error: "There is no Windows program configured to run that type of file". I've enabled the file to be allowed to run as an executable, and the program is completely uncorrupted - I just installed it on another computer with Windows.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI don't know if it's just my system, but after applying the latest Wine update, the mouse cursor in Wine windows is now purple/magenta/pink, whatever. Not a big problem, just annoying. I've looked through the various config files in ~home and /usr/share/wine, and can't find any parameter that might even remotely address this.
View 4 Replies View RelatedCurrently I am running Ubuntu 9.04 on my computer, and it is the only OS installed. I purchased the $30 student WIn7 Professional upgrade. I have a XP Pro CD + Key, and I plan on using that just to upgrade to Win7. I love Ubuntu and it is my primary OS, it is just that every now and then you come across some program that requires windows (Propellerhead Reason 4, Adobe Photoshop CS4, Atomix Virtual DJ etc.) and it requires full system resorces so you do not want to use wine. I love Linux, but somtimes I just have to use WIndows, so I do not want to hear any arguments about that.
I want to do a clean install of everything, and I have data + programs backed up, I would like to install Ubuntu 9.10, WinXP Pro and I want to Upgrade XP Pro to 7. I am completely new to GRUB 2, and upgrading windows; but I have experience with Linux and Windows, and dual booting. I would like to install Ubuntu 9.10 on its own partition (No WUBI), and WInXP + Win 7 on there own partitions (3 Partitions Overall). I would like to know what to do at this point, Should I install Ubuntu then Xp then 7, Xp then 7 then Ubuntu, etc. I know how to make Partitions, I just need to know the order in which I should install the operating systems, and how to get it to dual boot.
MY COMPUTER:
I had a Sony Vaio PCV-RS530G, and the mobo failed, so I rebuilt it, the case, processor, fans, CD/Floppy drives, TV tuner and power supply are unchanged, everyhing else has been replaced, here is the breakdown:

1) How can I install all the screen savers that were in Jaunty, but are missing in karmic?
2) Can Win7 be installed without a key, and then have the key entered later (I AM NOT PIRATING, I JUST WANT TO PUT THE KEY IN AND ACTIVATE AFTER I CAN TEST OUT EVERYTHING AND MAKE SURE THAT WINDOWS AND UBUNTU ARE RUNNING SMOOTHLY)
3) Will XP mode in Win7 work on a processor without virtualization technology?

As far as I know, mono is by default on every Ubuntu 10.04 installation, however as per the error message, I installed the Windows version of Mono via Wine successfully. Trying to start the program again, still coming up with above error.
Rsnapshot also cannot see my external hard drive. But I can see/edit all the files in the windows partition and the external drive. The output of mount for those two entries is:

Trying to run windows only apps. I installed Wine first from software center. Most progs I try to run only give me the 'working' icon for 20 seconds then nothing. I did modify properties to allow .exe to run. I Dl'ed & installed the VirtualBox package w sw center and same deal- nothing. No error messages or anythng.
Running Ubuntu maverick. My Cpu is a compaq presario laptop CQ50, dual core intel T3200. Not the best but should at least start the progs yes?

I'm trying to install Kubuntu 9.10 on my machine (I had the same problem with Kubuntu 9.04). The machine is:
- Core 2 Quad 6600
- Nvidia 7600 GS
- Two disk seagate 500 in mirroring raid software
When I try to install Kubuntu, after disk partition, my system dosn't see the CD. He tell me to insert disk into drive but I doesn't touch it. I resolved this mounting an external hard disk into /cdrom. After this, the installation continues until the step "select and install software". It seemingly worked as advertised, I labeled the linux partition as L and pressed finished. View 7 Replies View RelatedI have the DVD installer of Fedora 10, i want to dual boot with windows vista. well i get up to the partitioning part of installation (in anconda) and it asks me how i want to partition it... i wanted to re size my partition and create the default format, so i keyd in 70GB and Okay. then it came up with an error, saying I had bad sector(s) The error told me to run chkdsk /f /r in windows, then i could run ntfsresize with -b, (in Linux) well i did all those steps, and shrunk /dev/sda1 to 70gb (/dev/sda2 is my recovery partition) i have a 140 gb hard drive, but can't find the unallocated space anywhere!
when i booted windows, it ran a chksdk, like it should, and in my computer it said that it had been shrunk (because the pie graph showed a capacity of around 70GB) When i go into windows disk management it says no unallocated space, just one big partition (and a 8gb recovery partition) this is the same with GParted on puppy linux, GParted on fedora 10 (live cd) says there is no drives I can mount or unmount and same error on partition logic... in EASUS partition manager i get told that there is no unallocated space, in the fedora installer there is only /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2. Does anybody know.. how to install fedora on this partition, or get rid of the partition and repartition it another way. when i click on the option to remove all linux partitions and create default format, it errors and says it cannot make another primary partition, then says there is no room for /boot. and i can not proceed.
i finally decided to updgrade from Hardy Heron to Lucid Lynx. for this i made a backup of my old install, then i couldnt find my Lucid CD so i used a Karmic one to partition my old ext3 to ext4. There were some errors but after trying a few times it worked. Installed Karmic, rebooted (worked fine), downloaded all updates - (did NOT reboot to let updates take effect) and upgraded to Lucid.
Everything went fine so far. Now when i try to boot into Lucid the system hangs, i've also got a windowsXP partition on there so i tried booting that, first grub tells me Error 29: Disk write error then trying again windows seems to boot but it takes much longer than it should and seems to hang.
Then i tried Karmic and Lucid LiveCD (which i found in the meantime) none of the LiveCDs make it to boot after about 20 minutes. (previously they worked fine)looking at the errors it seems to be something about the harddrive. Why the harddrive would stop the LiveCD booting is a mystery to me but the same messages appear when i select Recovery from the Grub menu so i guess the problem is related.

I'm relatively new to Fedora, and very new to wine. I've searched high and low before posting here on where I could find a wine asio driver, preferably in a .rpm package. I'm completely lost on this one and could use some expert guidance on where to find it or compile it. I'm no expert on compliling, but with enough direction, I believe I can handle it

I have installed ubuntu in my windows vista using wubi. Wireless isn't working in ubuntu, so I have to install Broadcom STA proprietary wireless driver and it works fine in ubuntu. when I reboot into windows, to my shock, hardware isn't been recognised in windows. This is not first time I experienced it. I had same problem when i installed nvidia drivers on another dell precision. Its graphics got screwed and never been recovered. I tried re installing windows but problem still persists.

I'm still newly switched from Windows (though I've had a love affair with Linux live OSes for everytime I'm in between Windows OSes) and finally made the switch to Ubuntu. I have Wine installed for windows programs, and recently got a bit frustrated with OO Base, and went to install Microsoft Access (which I have training with) and while trying to figure out my install, Wine tells me it doesn't have any programs that read the 'autorun.inf' file. A little google fu tells me I kinda need an .inf reader for autorunning cds, dvds and the like. Anyone know where I can get the file? I tried to go through the Windows site and get the drivers downloaded for it, but I've hit a dead end.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Lenny 5.0.3 i386 onto an old HP XE783 box. I've got a couple of errors that pop up on boot, and I'm not sure how to troubleshoot them. A couple of the lines from /var/dmesg that strike me:weird, boot CPU (#0) not listedby the BIOS. ACPI Error (dsopcode-0595): Field [ALB2] at 120 exceeds Buffer [CRSA] size 104 (bits) [20080321] {along with two other ACPI Errors (psparse-0530): Method parse/execution failed; and (uteval-0233): Method execution failed.}.Error: Driver 'pcspkr' is already registered, aborting.
The most annoying thing (I think) has to do with the ACPI errors: the box won't power down after issuing a shutdown command; it bumps into single user mode then prompts for the root PW.
I've just finished installing lucid and started setting up my tablet and all went well until I tried to install the fpit driver. I tried installing it from synaptic but it says it has to remove ubuntu-desktop, xorg, xserver-core -- some very important things and then says "xserver-xorg-input-fpit: Depends: xserver-xorg-core but it is not going to be installed." I tried downloading the deb and extracting the driver manually but Xorg complains with:
