i am trying to install a driver for my acer tablet (using wine), i downloaded the driver with no problem extracted files and when i go to install it say it is preparing installshield then after a few seconds it says preparing to install as it gets about 25% it just quits and closes with no error message or anything. if it finished installing i cant find it and when i try again to install same thing.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm still a bit green at Linux - not enough that the terminal scares me, but I still need to figure out with my 'networking' which programs do what. I'm still newly switched from Windows (though I've had a love affair with Linux live OSes for everytime I'm in between Windows OSes) and finally made the switch to Ubuntu. I have Wine installed for windows programs, and recently got a bit frustrated with OO Base, and went to install Microsoft Access (which I have training with) and while trying to figure out my install, Wine tells me it doesn't have any programs that read the 'autorun.inf' file. A little google fu tells me I kinda need an .inf reader for autorunning cds, dvds and the like. Anyone know where I can get the file? I tried to go through the Windows site and get the drivers downloaded for it, but I've hit a dead end.

I checked the wine config and there was only OSS option that I think it would not help me to get sound working. I think I have to use Alsa Instead but I don't know how to add Alsa support to wine. By the way in need DirectSound as well. should i download it myself and add it to system32 or there is a better way?

I installed Ubuntu today, and to my great pleasure i found that my Wacom Intuos 3 tablet worked as perfectly as when the windows driver is freshly installed. Unfortunately, i installed no driver, and therefore can find no way to configure my tablet.
What i need configured is the tablet proportion (i have two screens, so the mouse moves too fast in the X direction compared to the Y direction) and what the pen buttons do in different programs. The wrong button is currently right click.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI m on ubuntu 10.04 and have a Trust tb 4200 tablet.. and having problems with my trust tablet runing on ubuntu.. i pluged in the tablet and to my amaze it started working right away until i pressed the pen on the tablet.. i cant seem to move the mouse curser anymore unless i touch the pen on the tablet. (wich acts as a click) so i thought that i may be missing the drivers.. i checked thes forum and there was a post to install the aptek drivers which i did (but still worked the same) and i found out thet there was no 10-aiptek.fdi (in "/etc/hal/fdi/policy/") so i created one and copied one from a post.. in [url]...3&postcount=50 but still cant move the courser without touching.. its like if it did no diference at all.. i also changed the values in the 10-aiptek.fdi with no changes.. the size of the tablet is just the size of the screen so i am using the full tablet.. and no buttons work...
I think the drivers are not workin.. in the synaptic it shows as intalled...

the new kernel 2.6.37 of 11.4 finally natively supports Waltop graphics tablets. However, I am not sure how to activate this driver. The tablet uses the usbhid driver on startup which is wrong.

I have noticed they sell digital writing tablets that have the ability to show the pen strokes both on the tablet's display and on the computer's monitor at the same time, and I think they are called LCD digital tablets and they serve as both a second computer monitor AND a writing tablet combined in one, such as the Wacom Cintiq, and must be connected both by USB as well as with a VGA/DVI port, and you have the ability to open up a drawing application directly from the tablet such as Paint where you can draw or write on the tablet's display. And you can see what you are writing on the tablet's display. Then you save the results to a JPEG file, for example.
But I do not want a digtal tablet quite as elaborate as that. I am looking for something similar to the credit card terminals used in stores where you can sign your name directly on the display after swiping your credit card, and you can see what you are writing as you write. Then your signature shows up on a paper receipt later. Do they make digital tablets like that for the home user, and if they do, would they have to hook up to the VGA/DVI port on your video card? What are they called and where can I get one?
I've searched several online stores but they do not say if you can see what you are writing on the tablet's display. I already have a Wacom tablet in Linux but you can not see what you are writing on the tablet. I have to keep looking up at my computer's monitor to see what I am writing and proficiency is reduced as a result. Omnipen OP-906 (ancient mid-90's device). It came with floppy with drivers for Windows 3.11 and old Mac Plugs into ttyS0 (com1. It has "tablet mode" and "mouse mode". It is meant to always start in "tablet mode", but if I give it a small power interruption (take out the AC plug from the wall halfway and quickly plug it back in), it sometimes kicks into "mouse mode". I'm trying to use iTunes and poker sites on my acer aspire one with linux linpus lite. I've followed previous threads and learned how to add/remove programs and I've downloaded wine. My wine programs show up under 'other' and I have: wine configuration; wine file; wine boot; wine software ininstaller and winhelp (not sure if the last is wine or not) Just can't navigate my way through any of these to find how to actually RUN wine. Also, if you think this is not the best way to fully use poker websites (I'm not happy with the iphone style no download play) or iTunes.

I found internet resources to create a boot disk that enables me to see my 8GB Sony USB flash drive via DOS. It works nicely.
I have a laptop drive to USB converter and can access the hard drive directly from my Win XP desktop. I have PowerQuest's Partition Magic Pro (v8.0) and can make Ext2 and Ext3 partitions at will. I have also loaded a program that allows Windows XP to read and write from Ext2 and Ext3. It works well.
I have tried loading boot images from PXE. This option is mostly out because it seems to be a couple levels past my competency (I haven't been able to get it to work).
Given those resources, what's the best way to load either the CentOS live CD... or some other approach?

I can boot to the CD and launch linld.com. The problem is that I keep getting a kernal panic message, saying that a memory block could not be addressed. And when I add the following part to the line above: "initrd=d:isolinuxinitrd.img" the install fails and reboots. I have tried to expand the initrd.img and it appears... blank?
I'm relatively new to Fedora, and very new to wine. I've searched high and low before posting here on where I could find a wine asio driver, preferably in a .rpm package. I have a problem when i use the Nvidia driver and the latest version of Xorg (1.9.4) on Debian Sid. In fact, when i minimise a window (Nautilus, console or Chromium/Iceweasel), i see the window's black border and it's very slowly when i minimize or maximize it. I don't know how to explain correctly so i tried to take a screenshot :
In this screenshot, you can see the black border. I haven't this problem if i use the free driver for my Nvidia but i can't to play with wine I tried with the driver on experimental repositories or the driver on Nvidia Website.
I'm using a remix of F14 called Fusion Linux. It's all the same as fedora14. It's come preinstalled with xorg x11 nouveau driver. So, i'm not using Nvidia driver. Now, the problem is that the graphics in wine application are really poor. Fonts appear to be really hazy. See this image to get me better: [URL].. In earlier version of fedora and wine, i used nvidia driver. Graphics used to be good at that time.

And I am using my system for surfing the web, listen to music, video`s and chatting. And I got the "funny" tough`t of trying to maybe play World of Warcraft again on this computer. Yes I have run it before when I had XP and W7 on it. The w7 experience on this computer was a bad mistake. So yeah, the thing I am really wondering on is this: Wine, WoW with WoTLK ( Wrath of the Lich King ), with the newest Open Source ATI graphic driver?[URL].. According to that page (you have to Ctrl-F and "Open source ATI drivers" to find the what I mean ) it is possible, but I am wondering on how to do it?[URL].. and been reading on different sites that you can play games with wine in a new X. Curious on how that can be done, and if that MAYBE is the best thing to do with my Wow game. Havent installed it YET, thinking of downloading the web installer after this post. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been attempting to install Ubuntu 10.10 on my Acer Aspire One for a few days now. Its current OS is Win7 Starter, if that even matters.
-I made a USB drive and Ubuntu boots and runs just fine.
-I hit the "install Ubuntu" icon and it has me choose my language, then I hit forward.
-It asks if I want to install updates and/or third party apps, I check the boxes and hit forward - and then it just sits there with the cursor spinning like its trying to do something, but it never does. The longest I have let it sit there was four hours, and still nothing happened.
**This is the step it always stops on. Could the problem be that I am trying to install the desktop version instead of the netbook version? I tried the netbook version and I just don't like it as much.
I have recently aquired this five year old laptop. I have fitted a new empty hard drive, downloaded Ubuntu 10.04 LTS using another computer, burnt it on a cd as an iso, changed the boot order on the Acer switched on and it starts to load - gives two small icons, I press Enter, it asks which language and whether I want to install it, I press the install list item, press enter it says Ubuntu and has half a dozen dots going red then white and then twenty to thirty seconds later the screen goes black and nothing happens. On another old laptop it worked fine.
