I'm trying to do a fresh install of fedora 12 on a Dell optiplex 380, using the fedora 12 i686 DVD. During the installation process I get a network driver installation error shown below. Anyone know how to resolve this?
View 6 RepliesI'm trying to install Kubuntu 9.10 on my machine (I had the same problem with Kubuntu 9.04). The machine is:
- Core 2 Quad 6600
- Nvidia 7600 GS
- Two disk seagate 500 in mirroring raid software
When I try to install Kubuntu, after disk partition, my system dosn't see the CD. He tell me to insert disk into drive but I doesn't touch it. I resolved this mounting an external hard disk into /cdrom. After this, the installation continues until the step "select and install software". At this step, the installation procedure tell me an error. During this error, in the other console, I've this:

I get about enabling the NIC on my Asus P7P55D LE motherboard in Fedora 11. During the installation process of Fedora 11 it seems as if the network card was not installed. I cannot find any drivers on Asus support site for Linux/Fedora.
How do I get it to work?

I am using fedora10 in my notebook. I installed nvidia-graphics driver as follows.

Then i installed kmod-nvidia with yum su -c 'yum install kmod-nvidia' When i tried to open NVIDIA control panel, i got a message that nvidia-driver should be configured. Then i issued the following command as root.
nvidia-xconfig. The i rebooted the system. Now in the boot menu, i see two kernel informations as follows
Fedora (2.6.27.21-170.2.56.fc10.i686)
Fedora (2.6.27.5-117.fc10.i686.PAE)
If i boot my linux with first one, x windows starts, if i boot with the second one (previously default), the x-windows is not opening. Why this happens? So i booted my system with first option in the boot menu. The system booted and x.windows started but i am not able to use any software that uses opengl window. The glxinfo command gives me the following error.

I tried to install the nvidia driver using yum. I had the nouveau graphic driver installed. I didn't follow any tutorial I just installed the nvidia driver over the installed one. Thinking that yum would take care of everything for me. When I rebooted I get as far as "registering binary handler for windows applications" I can still log on using alt+f2 and mount the file system using chroot but I cannot get any network access. When I use netstat -nr nothing is configured. I can't ping my router or any other computer on the network.I figure I should disable the nouveau driver and try to use the nvidia tutorial by leigh123linux to get the desktoop up again but I need net access to do that.I have no idea how to get that done. I have tried, ifdown/ifup, /etc/init.d/networks restart, service network stop/start/restart, ifconfig eth0.

I created a USB Live disk and installed Fedora 12 to my Asus EEE 1005HA (12 inch screen). The machine boots fine, but Hardware Graphics acceleration is not working correctly. If I stop X11, and type "Xorg -configure", the Xorg utility recieves a segmentation fault and exits, and the resulting xorg.conf file does not work correctly. The error is "(EE) open /dev/fb0: No such file or directory". All the correct packages are installed, and there is no logical reason why it is failing. The rest of the hardware on the EEE works fine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAs I mentioned before, I has having freezes while installing F12 (x86_64) with a GeForce 8600 GT. I was able to complete the installation by doing it with the "basic" video driver. However, I was still getting frequent freezes. I installed the testing Nvidia drivers, and the freezes went away. When it froze, it was a hard freeze -- it wouldn't respond to CTRL-ALT-DEL or SysRq (I did enable SysRq first). I had to do a hard reset.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Wheezy on a Thinkpad T23. want to use Fluxbox, so during installation I uncheck the graphics options because I can install X and fluxbox later. After the install, the first time it boots up it can connect to the wired network and it will download things. But, if I reboot then it somehow loses its ability to connect to any wired network (and the T23 doesn't have built in wireless, so it obviously can't connect to wifi). there something that I can do to get ethernet back? Or, is there a way to, while I'm still on the first reboot, permanently install the ethernet drivers?I'm finally trying tmove away from Windows because a friend happened to show me his laptop which was running the free and open alternative to OneNote (Xournal) that I've been needing.

I'm new to Fedora and just installed F10 yesterday. Everything was perfect, no snags at all, until I used the software tool to install the ATI drivers. Now my computer boots but instead of going back to the GUI all I get is a gray screen. I've tried everything I know to get to the command line so I can go back to my old X11 settings but there's no response -just the gray screen.
I'd prefer not to have to reinstall if I could avoid it. Is there a know bug with either a Toshiba Satellite A210 series laptop or the ATI Radeon Mobility X1300 graphics card? Since I'm not able to get to the command line, I don't know of a way to diagnose what's failing.
I'm new to Fedora and just installed the latest version on my Compaq Presario CQ56. Everything except for the WirelessLan seems to be working. The driver is missing, which I've already downloaded and when trying to run the "make" command it tries to cd into the following directory:/lib/modules/2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686/build
whereas the build folder is actually a dangling symlink which it for some reason can't access. Is there anything I can do to solve this issue?
I recently purchased a Dell Vostro v130 which came with Win 7 pre-loaded. I've been using it for a few weeks with no problems, but now I'd like to install ubuntu studio. I made it through the the partitioning part but now I'm getting a networking error: "Network autoconfiguration failed. Your network is probably not using the DHCP protocol. Alternatively, the DHCP server may be slow or some network hardware is not working properly."
I've been using the wireless connection in win 7 without any problem so I don't know why I'm having a problem now.

i have bought a new Asus k42jr notebook with no OS. Ihave an old version of an ubuntu cd 7.04. i have installed the cd successfully but it does not recognize the network adapter (lan), audio driver and the bluetooth. how can I enable my LAN so that i can upgrade my Ubuntu to the newest version. I`m now facing some problems with my new OS :
1. The driver for my wireless network card isn't recognized although I have installed the recommended driver which was in Ubuntu Hardware Driver section.
2. When I connect my laptop to my TV using HDMI port, the screen is OK but there is no sound!
3. When by any reason my network cable is unplugged, the whole network service goes down and I have to restart the system.

I recently installed Lenny 5.0.3 i386 onto an old HP XE783 box. I've got a couple of errors that pop up on boot, and I'm not sure how to troubleshoot them. A couple of the lines from /var/dmesg that strike me:weird, boot CPU (#0) not listedby the BIOS. ACPI Error (dsopcode-0595): Field [ALB2] at 120 exceeds Buffer [CRSA] size 104 (bits) [20080321] {along with two other ACPI Errors (psparse-0530): Method parse/execution failed; and (uteval-0233): Method execution failed.}.Error: Driver 'pcspkr' is already registered, aborting.
The most annoying thing (I think) has to do with the ACPI errors: the box won't power down after issuing a shutdown command; it bumps into single user mode then prompts for the root PW.
I've just finished installing lucid and started setting up my tablet and all went well until I tried to install the fpit driver. I tried installing it from synaptic but it says it has to remove ubuntu-desktop, xorg, xserver-core -- some very important things and then says "xserver-xorg-input-fpit: Depends: xserver-xorg-core but it is not going to be installed." I tried downloading the deb and extracting the driver manually but Xorg complains with:

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter an online upgrade from f11 to f13, on rebooting the setup attempts to configure the wireless connection and fails with a not very illuminating "error configuring your network interface" notice, offering no option but to go back and try again, which of course fails again with the same error.
Wireless card is a D-link that works fine with the ath5k driver in f11.
how I can get out of this vicious cycle and proceed with booting the upgrade?

I can do the PXE boot and load the installer boot image, but from there, I would like to have the installation media be from the internet, rather than a locally mounted disc. After another couple of installs (with lvm & w/o lvm) & even disconnecting the second harddrive -> same issue
Typing 'ls' in the rescue grub prompt returns

Cant 'ls /' into a single them - unknown filesystem (grub is installed in mbr of sdb) 'linux rescue' (wanted to try manual grub installation) command didnt work either.
Now again on fedora 14, same installation procedure, works fine. (and i wont bother doing a full distro upgrade from f14)
