When I am using some pendrives, I am unable to write (copy) anything into them and end up with some warnings like "read only mode". I tried to change its permissions using chmod also, but it is of no use.
When I want copy a file to my Pendrive it take long time, How can I troubleshooting it? For example, It show me 13 seconds to finish but take 20 minutes to finish !!!
copy files from one CentOS system to another one. The files are generated automatically at one server, and i want to copy them immediately to an other server.
I have installed centos 5.3 64bit on my machine using pendrive. installation completed successfully. but now i am not able to boot my system without pendrive. do i need to make change in /etc/grub.conf
I am running the latest version of linux mint from my 16GB flash drive. Is there any way for me to access the other files I have saved on the flash drive? I have tried to searching through folders myself but haven't had any luck.
I am an old days RH release user(from 6.x) and just switching back from Debian/Ubuntu to CentOS on some servers, but I can not understand the kernel update strategy currently enabled in CentOS.There are two boxes, with almost identical installation, but recently there was an auto update of kernel on one box. This auto update also seems to issue an auto reboot on the machine, which is unacceptable on server machines.
i try to copy file to my pendrive it slow down the machine and when i try to open the other running application like browser it open slowly. My RAM is 2 gb. and Swap is 1.5 gb.
I am a new user for ubuntu, recently i have updated to 11.04 version last week. When i kept my desktop idle for long time, the system goes down and it didn't wake up at all. I didnt change in the setting for screen saver and power management still. It is system default.
I didnt face this problem when i use version 10. Only the new version i am facing this.
I've noticed in the last few weeks that whenever I open a PDF file in Adobe Acrobat Reader I get several files with names like 4cbe92d509fde in my /tmp directory. This happens for all PDFs, whether I download them or create them myself. Has anyone else seen this happen? It's not a big deal, since I can just rm those files. I'm just curious about how this happens, and if there's a way to stop it. I'm using Acrobat Reader 9.3.2 in F13 (32-bit).
(2 weeks) and i like it already enough to change from odd windows 7, but some people still will use windows 7 in this PC but with minimal usage (email, internet, writing docs, listening at music) i would like to delete as much file from windows7 as possible so i have more space for ubuntu using it as main system.any sugestions on what to delete in windows 7 to free up some space?
Using redhat linux el5, when I had booted I had pbm repairing filesystem. So I run following commands 1. fsck -l 2. fsck But I cannot solve the pbm. My pbm is I had important folder "backup" in root folder just I want to copy it in pendrive how to do it.
I am using Pthread concept for developing my application Some times my system is getting hanged while the code is running and as soon as I am Pressing CTRL + C it is coming out of the code and system is going to the normal state. but several time only ^C is appearing in the terminal and system is not responding. do any one have the Solution what to do in that case.
I get a SD card. Put in the SD reader. It's empty. I go to my super-important-pictures-to-a-monthly-relatory folder and select all files. Select them for MOVE. Paste them on the SD card. When the move/paste process is finished, i click on the "Eject" button on top of the SD card name. Card's ejected. I can't access the card anymore. I take out the card and put on my other computer. From 300 pictures, there are only 10 available, the remaining ones are there, but with 0bytes and unrecoveable. I panic. I go back to my main computer, my pictures are not there anymore. The pictures were on the Home folder. I panic again. I reset the computer and boot on the LiveCD. I install foremost, scalpel, photorec and about everything till my USB drive complains about being filled up. I run everything and I can't recover my files. I'm in the danger of getting fired. Things like that makes Windows sounds more appealing. When you securely remove a pendrive, things get REALLY pasted there before screwing everything up with a removal.
I'm a relative cli noob, and I screw something up. I want to remove some files by extension only, going down several folders, while leaving everything else be.I think this might be the the right command / syntax, can someone confirm:Code:rm -rf *.exe *.ini *.!ut /path/
My computer doesn't like to copy files over 4 gigs to a flash drive. It will copy for about 12 minutes, and then when it's almost done, it's says "File to large." Is there some sort of limitation in the software that can be adjusted for this.
I installed VLC player in our Open SUSE 11.2. Installation was successful. After installation i can't able to open the VLC player as well as Dolphin. Within few mins Everything got hanged. I Just restarted my system. Everything Gone. I am not getting Suse GUI. I gone through the log in console. It shows "Qt Incompatible library cannot execute the xwindows "
I was updating grub and for some reason the system hanged. Going to a tty did not solve any problems. At the end I had to do a hard reboot and came up with the following on the grub boot
reloc offset is out of segment Entering rescue mode grub rescue >
Googling for the above I landed on this page.

While I'm going to try the later part, is there anything else I need to know about ?
Didn't have to do much, took the the Squeeze 6.10.a DVD, asked it to run into rescue mode and then did grub-install giving the MBR (hd0) as the place to be. Things worked nice after that.
Upon booting had to run dpkg --configure -a
and it updated grub to 1.99-5 among other updates. Did not know that Squeeze had a rescue method as well (just like Ubuntu live CDs have). Now just have to wait for Debian to get Live CD/DVD as default
I was wondering if anyone knew how to add a user/pass and allow them to issue the reboot command. Ideally, I dont want them to be able to see files/directories or anything else for that matter.I was thinking something along the lines of a chroot jail that has a single script that would call the reboot.
We are running SUSE 10 SP1 and MySql 5.0.62 with heartbeat configured cluster attached to a SAN and after upgrading powerpaths on the fiber switches we had to reboot the machines and remount the SAN luns.
The cluster successfully started and was working fine for about a day or so and then i logged in as root and hosts, fstab, known_hosts were all giving me this error when i tried to modify them "W10: Warning: Changing a readonly file"
I failed over to another node and same thing happens on another node. I can't modify any of these files
I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop. Now I am organising the structure of maps and folders, etc. My struggle is that I seem to have no permission to copy, paste and move files to another place then the home folder and the desktop.I am a total newby in Ubuntu and coming from a Windows operating system, so please give me some assist. I guess it must be very simple, but I don't have a clue at the moment.
I'm having issues copying files from a USB attached HDD (formatted by the NAS to EXT3) over to a NAS device. First some background info (maybe relevant or may not be): I upgraded the HDD in my NAS and now I'm unable to copy the files over from the old HDD while plugged into the NAS. Also tried copying over from windows 7 (64 & 32 bit) as well as an XP machine using EXT2FDS & IFS resulting in perpetual re-booting of all three machines. As a result of that I got a brainwave to try copying the files over from a bootable Linux DVD (Unbuntu 11.04) to the Nas over the network. I am in Unbuntu now but I am having problems copying to the NAS. It seems to work when I select individual files but when I select a older/folders/sub folders to copy over an "error while copying" dialog box appears appears. For example: in "Show More Details" here is the copied text from an error: "Error stating file '/media/f0745264-c91b-4528-9fe3-e3469cdb13cc/Public
I am unable to copy files on my machine. For instance, if I have two folders on the desktop and I want to move one folder into another, I get the error message:Error "Not on the same file system". I am using SL5.4.
