General :: Unable To Copy The Files Over From The Old HDD While Plugged Into The NAS?

I'm having issues copying files from a USB attached HDD (formatted by the NAS to EXT3) over to a NAS device. First some background info (maybe relevant or may not be): I upgraded the HDD in my NAS and now I'm unable to copy the files over from the old HDD while plugged into the NAS. Also tried copying over from windows 7 (64 & 32 bit) as well as an XP machine using EXT2FDS & IFS resulting in perpetual re-booting of all three machines.As a result of that I got a brainwave to try copying the files over from a bootable Linux DVD (Unbuntu 11.04) to the Nas over the network. I am in Unbuntu now but I am having problems copying to the NAS. It seems to work when I select individual files but when I select a older/folders/sub folders to copy over an "error while copying" dialog box appears appears. For example: in "Show More Details" here is the copied text from an error: "Error stating file '/media/f0745264-c91b-4528-9fe3-e3469cdb13cc/Public
I am unable to copy files on my machine. For instance, if I have two folders on the desktop and I want to move one folder into another, I get the error message:Error "Not on the same file system". I am using SL5.4.

Whenver i try to copy files from my centos to pendrive ( 2gb, kingston datatraveller) my system is gettin hanged leaving no option then to reboot. i tried from the terminal also, and as a diffrent user also. but same results.
My computer doesn't like to copy files over 4 gigs to a flash drive. It will copy for about 12 minutes, and then when it's almost done, it's says "File to large." Is there some sort of limitation in the software that can be adjusted for this.
I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop. Now I am organising the structure of maps and folders, etc. My struggle is that I seem to have no permission to copy, paste and move files to another place then the home folder and the desktop.I am a total newby in Ubuntu and coming from a Windows operating system, so please give me some assist. I guess it must be very simple, but I don't have a clue at the moment.
When I am using some pendrives, I am unable to write (copy) anything into them and end up with some warnings like "read only mode". I tried to change its permissions using chmod also, but it is of no use.

I used my computer this morning, but when I returned this evening, I am unable to reach the internet. Also the light on the mobo where the ethernet cable is plugged in is steady yellow.
My limited experience would tell me it is a hardware failure, but it seems so strange with nothing happening during the day. How might I best diagnose the problem?
I have been having a problem with K9 Copy whenever I try to convert a DVD to MPEG files using the method without encoding, but for some reason lately it seems to be splitting each episode I am trying to rip into about 6 or 7 pieces instead of just one.
I never usually have a problem with this, but for some reason it seems to be doing this whenever I try to rip something. I am running on Obuntu 9.10 and have K9Copy version 2.3.0 installed. I have tried installing several other versions, but it does the same thing with each.

When i installed ubuntu. I made a seperate partition so that i could copy an ISO image onto it of an up-to-date version of ubuntu. I wanted to then boot the ISO up so i could install the version that way.I've already tried doing it through the update manager but it'll download, almost be done with installing and it freezes on me. so i figured this would be easier. However i do not know how to gain access to the other partition to copy the ISO image.

Recommend a good disk copy utility? The utility should be able to not only copy files, but boot sector and everything. So I just need to make a copy, change my BIOS to boot from the new drive and run everything as before.
just installed ubuntu couple of days back on my netbook. I am still a beginner, enjoying my adventure exploring ubuntu. I have another desktop which runs on XP. I am able to access XP shared folders through my netbook(linux). However, i wanted to copy files from XP infact folders using TERMINAL in my netbook, not copy and paste using my mouse. Are there any commands for it?
After I select to boot Ubuntu (I dual boot Vista Ultimate 64.), it just sits at a black screen with the blinking dash.Cannot enter anything and it will just sit there. But if I plug in my Flash Drive it will boot into Ubuntu either before starting the computer or while Im stuck in the black screen.Plugging in the drive while I am in the black screen will make it boot right up. The drive will light up and a couple lines that quickly say something will show up on the screen and then it boots.This Flash Drive contains Ubuntu and is what I used to Install Ubuntu.
I am running Ubuntu 11.04, fresh install (32bit) on a Toshiba Satellite pro laptop and I am unable to get Ubuntu to recognize the camera is plugged in.When I ran 10.10 it was a simple plug and play approach and I have searched the forums for some guidance with no success.
I'm trying to copy files to the /var/www folder on Ubuntu 10.04. But I think I don't hava the permission. How can I do this? Maybe I have to set the rights permissions.
Possible Duplicate: Linux equivalent to robocopy? I have two websites - one is basically a development version and the other is a production version of the same site. So I'd like to be able to merge the changes made to the development site based on the modified date of the files. Is this possible with the 'cp' command?

Now I have learned creating partition in linux (ubuntu), well that's an achievement for a newbie. The next thing that I want to know is, how can I copy the contents of a partition to another partition. Like if I want to backup its content to a new partition that Im going to create.

I have to transport a lot of files from one pc to another (both Linux). I would like to use scp for that, but scp only allows for transferring one file at a time. How can I do this?
I have No possibility to use rsync or any other protocol No possibility to use passphrase free certificates (but have a certificate with a passphrase) A list of files to transfer and a list with the destination path of the files on the other server The files are spread out over a lot of directories, and not all the files in the directories I want to copy If possible I would like to gzip and ungzip transparently to save bandwidth!
