Ubuntu :: Removal - Despeckle Does Not Appear In The GIMP Plug-In Registry
Oct 13, 2010Trying to figure out GIMP plugins. My version of GIMP (2.6.6) shows Despeckle as grayed out. Going online, Despeckle does not appear in the GIMP Plug-In Registry. I'm on dial-up at home, which of course makes everything infinitely harder. Plus I'm not very familiar with GIMP plugins. Anyone know what's going on with Despeckle? I'm picking up a couple of old SCSI Nikon Coolscans and would like to see how hard it's going to be to run them with Ubuntu. Can use Windows for the scanning work but it'd be fun to use Ubuntu.

If you haven't install the 2.7 version yet. Before upgrading, backup "python" directory and then just restore it after installing 2.7.

Jun 12, 2010Some of you may have had with issues after installing GIMP on Lucid Lynx 10.04. Which may be directly related to "gimp-help-en", which could prevent you from installing other applications and preforming system tasks. If so, use this method to fix it.
Process: (Terminal > $ sudo apt-get install gimp)
1. After installing Gimp go to the terminal:
2. Then load up the language support application:
3. Then it will ask you to install the "gimp-help-en", confirm it.
4. Fix'd
I think this issue is directly linked to a systems with multiple languages, but I haven't been able to test this theory out yet.

Sep 5, 2010Recently one of my 8.04 updates included a Firefox update that is causing my computer to freeze up and overheat on occasion when I am forced to use my Firefox browser!
When it happens I have to unplug my computer because even the force quit does not work when this happens.
Is there a simple way to get rid of all of my old Firefox plug-ins and add ons?

Mar 19, 2011I use my old computer as an NAS, so I remove the monitor after I installed linux on it (disconnect vga cable). I use ssh to control the machine and it works fine. Until some day, after kernel/softare upgrade or messing up some configs, I cannot connect to it through ssh, then I have to plug the monitor back, but the monitor says "No input signal". So I have to restart the computer WITH the monitor connected, and the monitor's back!
I think the computer/linux kernel doesn't detect the monitor plug-in event. So how can I start my linux box without a monitor, but when it goes wrong I can still plug my monitor (vga) back and use the console.
Edit: just one pci-e video card, has dvi, vga, tv/out (s-video)
Edit2: Xorg is not running. I just need the console (CTRL+ALT+F1). The problem is, if the machine booted without a monitor connected, it won't give me a pseudo terminal after I attach the vga cable while it's running. Clearly the monitor is not auto detected as usb device. I'm wondering how to let the monitor auto detected.

May 11, 2011I have 11.04 installed, not using Unity, went back to Gnome2. I have tried using Synaptic and the Software Center, all installs go fine, no errors, but I cant see them in the CCSM. Everything is working very well and bug free for me. Not having a problem at all, its just that I am missing the Snowflakes, Leaves ect., and some extra effects for windows animations that I like.
Things I'v tried: Uninstalled from Synaptic and reinstalled extras plug-ins Looked in the The Software Center (everything says its installed) Yelled at Computer

A while back, I saw a photo of a small Linux server that looked like a laptop adapter (i.e., a plug, a cord, and a 2"x3"x8"-ish box). It was a very simple box that could be used as a server, with a network jack as the only I/O. I have been looking for this type of server for days, and I cannot seem to find it using my usual methods. I want to buy one of these for my brother as a birthday gift. Aug 12, 2010That's basically all I know. I run a KDE desktop and have not recently upgraded. However, for some odd reason, Gimp just won't come up. I see the bouncy Gimp icon next to my cursor and I see a task manager icon at the bottom of my screen but after about 15 seconds, the icon leaves and nothing ever happens. I am a web designer and Gimp is a must have! I'm sorry I don't really have any more details for you - that's all I know. Is there something that I could look for that may be messing up Gimp?

May 26, 2010this actually is bugging me not for the fact it has anything to do with ubuntu. my high end pc with ubuntu is my main computer but when i need a laptop i've got this obsolete macbook pro g4. that until a week ago had osx tiger on it. buddy of mine gave me an iso for ubuntu 9 (will upgrade to 10 when i get all bugs worked out). i went to a few of my fav sites (videos and facebook) and couldn't load adobe flash (no longer supported). are there any ubuntu ppc flash alternatives?
just a quick knowledge of my linux ability, i don't know anything about installing tar.gz files. so i preferbly a debian/ubuntu install package would be perfect . but i will work with whatever is provided.
