View 2 RepliesI have a Compaq Presario r3300 with a 1.6 GHz processor from AMD and 2GHz ram. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 which has been religiously updated ever since I clean installed it on this computer. Today, about an hour after my last automatic update for Ubuntu 9.10, I went to click one of my mouse buttons, and nothing worked. This happened after I tried to open GIMP 2.6, which had never failed before. So there I was with no right or left click on my mouse or keypad, no any opening of GIMP. Things were frozen - but typing was okay. The cursor ended up in a window, and I could type. I waited for about 10 minutes, then turned off the computer with my power button. When I turned it on, I was able to open up a firefox and left click once. Then everything froze. I turned off, then turned on again. Same situation. One left click, then no reaction. Finally by chance when I was booting up again, the boot screen offering choices (which I don't know how to get to if I want to) came up, and I chose a different, earlier version of Ubuntu. Now I can click my mouse left or right. But still no GIMP. It is installed; just no reaction when I try to run the program as I have literally hundreds of times before. All started with the automatic update earlier this evening.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIf you had Gimp 2.6 (with gimp-plugin-registry installed) and installed Gimp 2.7 to try its new goodies, but Layer Effects are not showing, and when executing "gimp" from console you get these *nasty* errors:
Code:
This is a development version of GIMP. Debug messages may appear here.

If you haven't install the 2.7 version yet. Before upgrading, backup "python" directory and then just restore it after installing 2.7.
Some of you may have had with issues after installing GIMP on Lucid Lynx 10.04. Which may be directly related to "gimp-help-en", which could prevent you from installing other applications and preforming system tasks. If so, use this method to fix it.
Process: (Terminal > $ sudo apt-get install gimp)
1. After installing Gimp go to the terminal:
2. Then load up the language support application:
3. Then it will ask you to install the "gimp-help-en", confirm it.
4. Fix'd
I think this issue is directly linked to a systems with multiple languages, but I haven't been able to test this theory out yet.
I went into terminal and tried to install GIMP with apt, and I et this error:

I have scanned architectural A3 drawings in to my pc from my Brother MFC A3 printer/scanner, altered the drawings by adding notes, dimensions, etc using GIMP but cannot print back out in A3. It prints out in A4 on a A3 page. Must be a coomon problem but can't find a solution

When I choose a brush in GIMP, it does not allow me to change the details of a brush - such as the Angle, Aspect Ratio, Scale, and opacity. The slide bar buttons are there, but there's no "slide", so they cannot be moved.
I'm using 2.7.1 that is the one that came with the 9.10 build and updated normally through the Update Manager.
A few hours ago one of my sites posted a new gimp version for Linux but i don't want bz2 files i want deb/ppa anyone know where i can one of those things?
View 9 Replies View Relatedlike to update it on occasion. Recently I attempted to edit an image locally. I use vbulletin, which relies on png for it's forum icons. When I tried to change the default image for a new one I created using GIMP, I saved it as a *.png file. Yet, when I looked at the saved file - it was actually a *.xcf file (which I've never even heard of before). What gives?ensure it is saved with a png extension when I select png extension, instead of the xcf extension it seems intent on saving as?The image was originally a jpg, if that makes any difference. I can't see as it does though. When I was on Windoze, I used Paint Shop Pro - and if I told it to save a file with a png extension, it amazingly saved it with a png extension
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've modified the Radiance theme and installed it, and everything looks wonderful except for one thing. Certain programs have ugly windows and progress bars, as if all window effects were disabled for those windows. The progress bar in GIMP is not affected.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to koala, but gimp no longer functioned after upgrade; i.e. open file popup dialogue freezes, crop tool is non-functional, preferences dialogue was absolutely a blank box. Tried un-install/re-install thru both the new software center and synaptic. Same broken result every time. Tried a direct download from gimp.org but ran into a lot of dependency stuff I know nothing about; I'm an end user, not a coder. So, how do I get a functioning install of gimp?

View 1 Replies View RelatedGimp is failing to print documents correctly. It will spit out a page, whether it be PDF or an actual piece of paper, but the result is just a blank white document. I've tried printing through my HP printer, Cups PDF printer, and the default Print to File. I'm able to print documents through other applications on my system just fine.
I've done a fresh install of Ubuntu, but I'm still having the problem. I'm not sure if there are certain packages I need for Gimp to print. There are so many different PDF, PostScript, GhostScript, Cups, Foomatic, HP, etc. files in Synaptic that it's hard to tell what is important and what isn't. I'm using GIMP 2.7.2 on Ubuntu 10.10.
I compiled the latest stable version of gimp, but I want to go back to the one in the repositories, how do I uninstall the compiled version?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't know if it's possible but GIMP is able to receive command line arguments, so why not? Basically, I want to create a batch (action, macro or what it may be called) and then set up a cron job which will run every hour. So, it would be something like "If an image is in X folder, then resize, watermark & move it to Y folder".

When I go to places>home folder, or places>documents etc, instead of the usual directory browser GIMP launches and gives an error message: opening jen>documents failed; it is a directory. View 2 Replies View Relatedi have recently been spending some time with gimp, i find it a very good replacement for photoshop and i find it easer to use. the only thing that bothers me so much about gimp is that everything is in separate windows.is there a way to make a sing windowed mode. if there is please tell me because this has really been bothering me...

This happens on a system running 10.04 / 64-bit. As I seem to recall a recent gimp update (might be wrong), I checked a 32-bit 10.04 laptop and it does not show the behavior. For information: the 64-bit system has some additional stuff installed for image processing (ufraw and darktable) but I have been using this already for a while without issues. The other main change on this 64-bit system before I noticed the problem was the installation of a geforce 8400 video card including the 'nomodeset' option in grub and install of the latest driver from the nvidia website. verify that the gimp on a 64-bit system is still functioning.Further a 'repair' from within synaptic throws the following error
Code:
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/gimp_2.6.8-2ubuntu1.2_amd64.deb: subprocess dpkg-deb --fsys-tarfile returned error exit status 2
Note: I found some messages regarding this problem on the web but they were referring to older kernels (2.6.8); and people reverted back to an even older kernel. And yes, there have been a recent kernel upgrade.
Both programs were working just fine yesterday before the upgrade to Ubuntu 11.04.
Opening Gimp results in many error pop-ups on being unable to locate module gimp and module gimpfu. I tried to uninstall and reinstall, and the installation fails with this message:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
gimp : Depends: libgimp2.0 (<= 2.6.11-z) but 2.7.3-2010072701~ll is to be installed Depends: gimp-data (<= 2.6.11-z) but 2.7.3-2010072701~ll is to be installed
This may be because of times in the past where I tried to compile Gimp. Do I need to clean up my repositories list? (in that case, any way to get a fresh one?)
Inkscape doesn't open at all, instead the terminal message says this:
inkscape: error while loading shared libraries: libwpg-0.1.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I'm not sure what's wrong in the case of Inkscape though, although I did compile a few versions long ago I was using the "normal" version from the Ubuntu repositories afterwards.
like the title says, after working in GIMP for, like, 5 minutes, my session suddenly closes and I have to login again. I have been looking a lot of time for a solution, but I've not seen anyone with this problem... does anyone of you have some kind of solution? I'm desperate. I really need to use it, and I don't want to use Wine+Photoshop, I don't like to rely on windows programs.
