View 3 RepliesI was trying to plug projector on my laptop with slackware 13.1 installed. The problem is that the projector stops showing whenever I start X. I can see everything starting from LILO loader, but whenever I type "startx" - bam, no signal or just a black screen on the wall. I try to switch to console mode with ctrl+alt+f1 - the view appears, switching back to X with ctrl+alt+f7 - view disappears. I am using awesome WM. I tried XFCE, but the result was the same. I also tried to change resolution to
Code:
xrandr --output default --mode 1024x768 / 800x600
, but again, no difference. My laptop is ASUS F3Jc. Fn keys doesn't help as well.
Recently one of my 8.04 updates included a Firefox update that is causing my computer to freeze up and overheat on occasion when I am forced to use my Firefox browser!
When it happens I have to unplug my computer because even the force quit does not work when this happens.
Is there a simple way to get rid of all of my old Firefox plug-ins and add ons?
I use Slackware64 13.1. I installed eclipse from slackbuild. But how can I install Eclipse CDT? is a plug-in for eclipse? It's another program?
View 4 Replies View Relatedthis actually is bugging me not for the fact it has anything to do with ubuntu. my high end pc with ubuntu is my main computer but when i need a laptop i've got this obsolete macbook pro g4. that until a week ago had osx tiger on it. buddy of mine gave me an iso for ubuntu 9 (will upgrade to 10 when i get all bugs worked out). i went to a few of my fav sites (videos and facebook) and couldn't load adobe flash (no longer supported). are there any ubuntu ppc flash alternatives?
just a quick knowledge of my linux ability, i don't know anything about installing tar.gz files. so i preferbly a debian/ubuntu install package would be perfect . but i will work with whatever is provided.
The Firefox 3.6.7 update this morning disabled most of the plug-ins that were installed and working. This has happened a few times and is a real problem for those of us who depend on the plug-ins to perform our work. es, I suppose it would be possible to manually predetermine the compatibility of each plug-in prior to installing an update. But that is very time consuming, painful, and prone to error.
There needs to be a pre-install process that will do those checks and warn the user of any incompatibilities - then allow them to choose whether to install the update. I never have understood why the current "shotgun" approach was chosen. It breaks many things.
I have installed flash plugins in my firefox 5 in fedora 15, I can watch ....., but not [URL] video. What is wrong here? I have in my firefox plugins:

My Firefox 3.6 plugin check reveals "Unable to Detect Plugin Version" for Java. It detects Totem and Shockwave just fine.
Exact message:Java(TM) Plug-in 1.6.0_15 .Unable to Detect Plugin Version
I am running Firefox Ver 3.6 on Ubuntu 9.10. As a result of this, I cannot use VPN to log into my co network which is bit of a handicap.
What I'd like to have is alsa mixer enable microphone on plug-in and mute it on plug-out.
It's because when enabled it produces unwanted noise in the speakers, so I have to manually turn it off once I'm done with using skype and turn on again when I get a call. I'd like to automate that process.
The sound capability of ZynAddSubFX and Rosegarden's ability to use LADSPA along both Windows VST's and DSSI plugins like ZASF are simply excellent illustrations of Chris Cannam's ability to transform the chaotic mess of audio on Linux into something sonically and visually!

An incredible combination ... which doesn't even address the ability to produce stellar musical documents as well... I'll probably move my comments on adapting this combination for Slackware64 from the Desktop thread to here ...
i installed slackware-13.37 in my laptop and everything went ok. but then i tried to install different versions of firefox in my language (portuguese). I downloaded the files, and tried to install it in /opt partition, but first i removed the previous version of firefox located at /usr/lib64/firefox-4.0. so i made tar -xjvf firefox-4.0.1.tar.bz2 as root and everything went ok. but when i made ./firefox it just keeps firefox script.
View 26 Replies View RelatedI've tried installing flash player using the slackbuild and files provided on [URL]
After installation everything looks well and good:
bash-3.1$ slocate libflashplayer.so
/usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
/usr/lib64/firefox-3.5.2/plugins/libflashplayer.so
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
bash-3.1$
But flash still won't work in Firefox.
I get the following errors:
/usr/lib64/firefox-3.5.2/plugins/libflashplayer.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32
The same error is also reported for both mozilla/plugin directories state above.
I want to upgrade Firefox to 3.6.3 The latest version should be 3.6.3 instead of 3.6.2. But even so, the 3.6.2 version is not there. Should I keep looking for other mirror that has the available software or do I miss anything?
View 4 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know how to install Firefox Add-Ons without an Internet connection? I need to install Firebug on a Slackware 13 machine that's not connected to Internet
The version of Firefox is 3.5.2.
i'm having trouble installing the jre in firefox3.6. I'm using slackware 12.1 which comes with the default firefox 2. Downloaded 3.6 into my systems this is where i install:
Code:
root@linux:/usr/lib/firefox3.6
I download the jre 6 from the java website and this is where i install:
Code:
chongming@linux:/usr/local/jre1.6.0_21
I create a symbolic link into the firefox3.6 plugin folder using this command:
Code:
root@linux:/usr/lib/firefox3.6/plugins# ln -s /usr/local/jre1.6.0_21//plugin/i386/ns7-gcc29/libjavaplugin_oji.so
Double check to see if the link exists:
Code:
root@linux:/usr/lib/firefox3.6/plugins# ls -l
total 20
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 66 2010-10-17 01:24 libjavaplugin_oji.so -> /usr/local/jre1.6.0_21//plugin/i386/ns7-gcc29/libjavaplugin_oji.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 15716 2010-10-17 00:49 libnullplugin.so
Restart the firefox and type aboutlugins, the java plugin does not exists. I went to the java website and test to see if jre is install in firefox, but could not detect. This is the permission for the firefox 3.6 dir in the /usr/lib path:
Code:
root@linux:/usr/lib# ls -ld firefox3.6/
drwxr-xr-x 13 root root 4096 2010-10-17 00:49 firefox3.6/
Is there any where i miss or i install the symbolic link in the wrong plugin folder? where does the firefox read its plugins?
I'm not able to use lmms with vst plugin.
Here is what I did:
I downloaded url.unzipped it into /home/georges/vst-plugin/ because this is my vst plugin directory then went to instrument plugins, dragged vestige into song-editor clicked on Default preset clicked on Open other VST-plugin selected 4Front Piano.dll
clicked ok, and I get this error popup:
Quote:
The VST-plugin /home/georges/vst-plugin/4Front Piano.dll could not be loaded for some reason. If it runs with other VST-software under Linux, please contact an LMMS-developer!
I'm running lmms 0.4.10 on a Fedora 13 laptop.
Code:
[root@t61 ~]# rpm -qa|grep -i lmms
lmms-0.4.10-2.fc13.i686
lmms-vst-0.4.10-2.fc13.i686
I installed lmms today, so could be a newbie problem.
I'm thinking that this dll is reserved for Windows, or something?
Got an old SUSE box from a friend, installed 11.3, got a few items: 1. didn't see any prompts to enter monitor info during install, control center shows as generic. Read about 'sax2' (hope that's right) but can't find it on my system or in the add-ons image. Do I need to hack monitor.conf? how? 2. installation aborted when trying to load 'textlive'.3. going into control center->mouse, the display quivers a little then I get kicked back out to the login prompt. 4. how to get kaffeine to process flv files? 5. how to get a flash drive to automount when I plug it in? I can manually mount ok. I guess that's about all for now.

1. When booting standalone (no extra display) everything works just fine
2. After plugging in an external display on VGA slot, the boot process hangs during xdm start

You have .exe files to install stuff. Even tho I have used ndiswrapper in the past I can't remember how now. I've got a nice old laptop with a nice install of SUSE 10 that does everything I want except connect to the internet. I've got about 1 more day of patience remaining before I have to revert to the hated Ws. I even got a supposed "plug and play" Asus usb-n10, but have not been able to work out the install.

Anyone built the latest release?
Here's the source: ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.or.../3.5.6/source/
Security Fixes: http://www.mozilla.org/security/know...l#firefox3.5.6
I'm currently downloading the source and will build and report back how it goes.
Where can I get Firefox 3.6.12 for Slackware 13.1 64bits? I can get nightly builds from mozilla e.g. Namoroka, but not a stable release..
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just recently installed slackware 13.37 as a fresh install. In firefox, I currently only have the flashplayer plugin installed, no themes, no other add-ons. Firefox will open fine the first time, however after I close it and try to open it again, I get a message saying that firefox is already running and the process must be closed before another session can be opened. Looking through the open processes, firefox-bin still shows open. I can kill -9 firefox-bin and restart firefox, but then I have the same problem after close. I have deleted my .mozilla folder, which did not help and I have deleted the libflashplayer.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have a 100% Slackware 13.37 network on both server and clients, with roaming profiles using NIS and NFS. Currently I'm debugging the whole thing, and I have a strange error that I can't quite explain.Sometimes when my girlfriend logs in, she gets some strange "Firefox is already running" error. The strange thing here is: ps aux | grep firefox returns absolutely no Firefox process. The only "solution" to convince Firefox to start again is to wipe her ~/.mozilla directory, but by doing this, she loses all her bookmarks and settings.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI would like to know if there is a fix for firefox font menus, also the font for bookmarks, the problem is that these fonts are too big , like 16 , instead of 10 or 12
i've had this problem with all linux distros that i've used, everything is fine except the menu and bookmark fonts in firefox, same in chrome, menu and bookmark fonts are big, anything i tried i could not make it look like the normal font sizes in windows or even Konqueror. and it not that only that it is big fonts, they are also wide.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI would like to upgrade to the newest firefox. It is 3.6.somewhat. My official Slackware (12.2 - 2.6.27.7-smp) upgrade supported the latest version , which was 3.0.19. Via GUI i could update this, and i did it.
So, now , I installed a new kernel (2.6.35-stable, and modules ). I saw, that I can download the firefox paket from their page, and I did this already some months ago, whith the experience, that this package is some kind of portable executable, means, just unpack it, and run it. It seems, as i do not need to install it ( what interferes in some kind with plugin directories , flashplayer for example. )
But, I would like to build it again, using their old config as mine ( via make oldconfig) and then converting it all to an tgz. My question now is : will this work ? because, I updated my kernel, and went to 2.6.35 but not my glibc, my kernelheaders nor my gcc. Will I still be able to compile this new ff from source and .tgz it ?
