If you had Gimp 2.6 (with gimp-plugin-registry installed) and installed Gimp 2.7 to try its new goodies, but Layer Effects are not showing, and when executing "gimp" from console you get these *nasty* errors:
Code: This is a development version of GIMP. Debug messages may appear here. gimp-user-install: migrating from /home/user/.gimp-2.6 Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/layerfx.py", line 23, in <module> import gimp, gimpplugin, math ImportError: No module named gimp .....
If you haven't install the 2.7 version yet. Before upgrading, backup "python" directory and then just restore it after installing 2.7.
Some of you may have had with issues after installing GIMP on Lucid Lynx 10.04. Which may be directly related to "gimp-help-en", which could prevent you from installing other applications and preforming system tasks. If so, use this method to fix it.
Process: (Terminal > $ sudo apt-get install gimp)
1. After installing Gimp go to the terminal:
2. Then load up the language support application:
3. Then it will ask you to install the "gimp-help-en", confirm it.
4. Fix'd
I think this issue is directly linked to a systems with multiple languages, but I haven't been able to test this theory out yet.
I am on 10.10 using Gnome 2. When I go to install GIMP via Terminal, SPM or USC I get an error about not being able to install libpoppler-glib4. Odd thing is I have the updated version.

I have a Compaq Presario r3300 with a 1.6 GHz processor from AMD and 2GHz ram. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 which has been religiously updated ever since I clean installed it on this computer. Today, about an hour after my last automatic update for Ubuntu 9.10, I went to click one of my mouse buttons, and nothing worked. This happened after I tried to open GIMP 2.6, which had never failed before. So there I was with no right or left click on my mouse or keypad, no any opening of GIMP. Things were frozen - but typing was okay. The cursor ended up in a window, and I could type. I waited for about 10 minutes, then turned off the computer with my power button. When I turned it on, I was able to open up a firefox and left click once. Then everything froze. I turned off, then turned on again. Same situation. One left click, then no reaction. Finally by chance when I was booting up again, the boot screen offering choices (which I don't know how to get to if I want to) came up, and I chose a different, earlier version of Ubuntu. Now I can click my mouse left or right. But still no GIMP. It is installed; just no reaction when I try to run the program as I have literally hundreds of times before. All started with the automatic update earlier this evening.
when i try to install gimp with the terminal command:sudo apt-get install gimpI get this Error(yes its in german i know):Die folgenden Pakete haben unerflte Abhngigkeiten: gimp : Hgt ab von: libpoppler-glib4 (>= 0.12) ist aber nicht installierbarE: Beschdigte Paketeit says, that the packet: libpoppler-glib4 is corrupt.i already tried to reinstall libpoppler-glib4, but it wouldnt let me
i recently had update, it worked fine but gimp disappeared. now if i try to install it in terminal it gives me this:

In FC11 i686, I notice that after yum install xsane xsane -v reports a version of xsane that is compiled without Gimp support. Is there a special name for the xsane package that does have Gimp support?
I have scanned architectural A3 drawings in to my pc from my Brother MFC A3 printer/scanner, altered the drawings by adding notes, dimensions, etc using GIMP but cannot print back out in A3. It prints out in A4 on a A3 page. Must be a coomon problem but can't find a solution
When I choose a brush in GIMP, it does not allow me to change the details of a brush - such as the Angle, Aspect Ratio, Scale, and opacity. The slide bar buttons are there, but there's no "slide", so they cannot be moved.
I'm using 2.7.1 that is the one that came with the 9.10 build and updated normally through the Update Manager.
A few hours ago one of my sites posted a new gimp version for Linux but i don't want bz2 files i want deb/ppa anyone know where i can one of those things?
like to update it on occasion. Recently I attempted to edit an image locally. I use vbulletin, which relies on png for it's forum icons. When I tried to change the default image for a new one I created using GIMP, I saved it as a *.png file. Yet, when I looked at the saved file - it was actually a *.xcf file (which I've never even heard of before). What gives?ensure it is saved with a png extension when I select png extension, instead of the xcf extension it seems intent on saving as?The image was originally a jpg, if that makes any difference. I can't see as it does though. When I was on Windoze, I used Paint Shop Pro - and if I told it to save a file with a png extension, it amazingly saved it with a png extension
I've modified the Radiance theme and installed it, and everything looks wonderful except for one thing. Certain programs have ugly windows and progress bars, as if all window effects were disabled for those windows. The progress bar in GIMP is not affected.
Whenever I try to open a folder, it opens it in Gimp. Can anyone help? Here is the message I get when I try to open a folder: Opening failed: Is a directory. I tried uninstalling Gimp. I got this: Failed to execute default File ManagerFailed to execute child process "gimp" (No such file or directory)

I recently upgraded to koala, but gimp no longer functioned after upgrade; i.e. open file popup dialogue freezes, crop tool is non-functional, preferences dialogue was absolutely a blank box. Tried un-install/re-install thru both the new software center and synaptic. Same broken result every time. Tried a direct download from gimp.org but ran into a lot of dependency stuff I know nothing about; I'm an end user, not a coder. So, how do I get a functioning install of gimp?
I have 2.47 installed and I want to upgrade to the newest version 2.67 yet when I try to upgrade, I am being told that I have the latest version. Is 2.47 the latest version in debian?
I want to reduce "Open Gimp, File>>Create>>XSane>>[my_scanner]" into a command-line ... line of command. XD So I can bind it to a key combo with Compiz-config. I just don't know how to find the commands to make Gimp and XSane do that.
I need GIMP to work for my place of business. When I open gimp in terminal and run the program, everything is fine untill I click on either smudge, pencil, text tool, etc. It just crashes, and terminal says this: gimp: fatal error: Failed to register GObject with DBusConnection script-fu:2795): LibGimpBase-WARNING **: script-fu: gimp_wire_read(): error
