My server is Centos 5.3 I have php 5.1.6. some of plug-ins does not work I have to upgrade it to 5.2.6.
To upgrade it I have to install a third party repositories.How can I protect my current php in case if the repository does not work I enable ( or role back) the Centos default php?
first because of my nvidia card if I don't put nomodeset my screen turns off.also whenever I try to update my nvidia drivers either the ones from the ones from the website or the propriety drivers I get a MCU failure or something like that and to fix that i have to change "nvidia" in my xorg.conf to "nv" but then my resolution loads to 640x480 which i cant change and it says im not using the propriety drivers so then i changed "nv" to "vesa" which makes my screen highest screen resolution 1280x 720 and apparently my refresh rate is 0. but i cant do anything good without the propriety drivers.Also my sound doesn't work at all unless i plug in some headphones.

Only reason asking because i can disable the harddrive on my laptop so i just unplug the harddrive in my desktop and install ubuntu like that onto usb,if theres a better method for laptop love to hear it

I use the option to use the entire hard drive when it installed and my question is when I had it use the entire hard drive did it keep the computer drivers or did it erase them? I notice that the sound is only about have as loud as before but is that Linux or my computer? I also notice when I plug in my mp3 sometimes it doesn't detect it. Also when I plug in my headset into the font USB it doesn't work. I'm not sure what is going on.

my sound system seems to work fine but the headphone doesn't work when i plug it in its jack male to laptop's female. Its not a usb system.

When I start X, my keyboard does not work. It seems like the wrong layout is being used. If I unplug it and then plug it back in then everything is good. I only have any Xkb options in xorg.conf.d. below is my keyboard config from xorg.conf.d. NOTE: I have /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d symlink'd to /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d, if that might be the cause of this problem

Hi. I'm running the 64 bit OpenSuse 11.2 distro with Firefox 3.5.7 and the Novell mono plugin installed but still can't watch the olympics coverage on CTV.
Is there something else I also need to install?
I am running a server in Dell which has RAID1 and hot plug 2 disks. It's been running for a while, but I was thinking it may crash anytime. So got a spare one, and wanted to test it how it works.I have never done this before. Can I simply, on a running machine, unplug the Disk 2 and connect the new Disk there? (Without interrupting the service as a silent mode?) Or does it have to be shutdown first, and unplugged, reinstalling all software/centos/etc etc? How do you do this update? Also how do you know when you replaced the disk? Do you have anything special to monitor that disk 1 or disk 2 is end of life?

I want a controller supported by the kernell, plug and store.I found two boards looking interesting with a cheap price:- Dawicontrol DC-4320 with a SiliconImage Sil3124-2.- Promise FastTrak TX2300.The DC-4320 is better because has 4 sata ports Vs 2 ports for the TX2300, but this is not a big problem for me because i only can add two more disk on my box.I, am planing to buy a 1,5 Tb seagate disk (ST31500341AS), dont know if it may be a problem with the size.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am a Windows user for the last 14 years and am getting into the Linux world. I have a CentOS server set up at home and have been using SFTP. But now I am needing to install a program that has a exe file I can lauch from my Windows machine to the CentOS server but the only problem is it only uses FTP over port 21. I have found quite a few different posting on how to install FTP but only some of the commands they give work and I get a lot of no such directory. I will be using the FTP locally but have been getting frustrated setting it up. I do have it installed an am able to start the service but cannot connect. Is there a step by step information for setting this up? I am new to the command line and all the SCO stuff I used to know back in the early 90's is all gone from memory.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI am writing an sample LDAP Plug-in on RHDS. While compiling plug-in file, i am getting an error related to missing header files(prtypes.h, prprf.h etc..).
'slapi-plugin.h' file is generated in the path /usr/include/dirsrv. But inside this file, they are using some other header files like prtypes.h, prprf.h, etc. But there is no files generated with this names. Because of this i am getting "No such file or directory" error for these files. I can get these header files from Netscape coporation(Thirdpary), but can we use the same header files for Redhat or is there any separate header files are there for RHDS.
I have been a loving fan of your software for years now and have been trying to move into a new dedicated server, getting away from my VPS I have been anchored to. I had to change static ip's on my main internet line and thus got locked out of my server. I have the box here and I can console into it but I cannot get the new ip address to work. I have tried so many things it would waste more time than asking for the correct answer.
I know you are wise in the ways of the server as you have gotten me out of a jam in the past. I am currently running Centos 5.4 and a trial version of WHM/cPanel (which needs to be re-registered to the new address if I can ever get back online.)

when I installed my server I had an FTP server running, I thought it was vsftpd. I stopped vsftpd one day though, and I could still FTP into my server. This mystery FTP daemon is SFTP (using port 22), and now it does not work. I've tried enabling vsftpd and I still cannot connect to my server. I've checked my firewall and I have FTP and SSH allowed. What might this mystery FTP program have been?

However, with https, things are not going as expected: If url "https://www.abc.com/test" is requested, the new url responsed by apache is "http://www.abc.com/test/", but not "https://...", resulting in browser's page load error.?

I've got a nice old laptop with a nice install of SUSE 10 that does everything I want except connect to the internet. I've got about 1 more day of patience remaining before I have to revert to the hated Ws. I even got a supposed "plug and play" Asus usb-n10, but have not been able to work out the install.

I was able to do on Debian and Ubuntu Servers X applications running on remote servers where I was able to login via SSH. Tried the same with CentOS did not worked. in /etc/ssh/sshd_config

But I could not consol Centos server from my labtop (win xp) Is there missing or wrong configurations ?
i have apache, php, mysql, etc installed, and running.
Phpinfo displays properly, and i can even do a few simple database calls via databases i made from the commandline.
I try to install the phpMyAdmin package (i think its from RPMForge, but it might be from EPEL). The package installs without problems, yet when i attempt to go to localhost/phpMyAdmin, i get a 404 error.
Is there something i need to do with my apache configuration to make this work? There seems to be very little documentation on this package.
If there isnt anything i could do, i could go through and do it by hand, but i want to have the advantage of using packages for the automatic updates.
EDIT1: Ok, i reinstalled the package, and now i get a 403:Forbidden instead of a 404.
Again, localhost/phpMyAdmin.

I have a dedicated server running CentOS 5, Plesk 9.2.2, SMTP Postfix and Courier-IMAP.The issue I have is that on all domains on the server receiving email works fine however sending email never seems to work. This is from email programs, my phone, webmail and PHP. None of them seem to be able to send email. If it is of worth Spam Assassin is running however I don't feel it is causing any problems.

I have a DSL modem with four ports and a built-in wireless router downstairs. It works great: I have wired Ethernet for my PCs downstairs (all plugged in directly to the DSL modem); my son has great wireless access upstairs (using the built-in wireless in his laptop). PROBLEM: I want to add another, desktop, PC upstairs. I've been trying to use wireless, with a plug-in a Linksys USB stick. It doesn't work worth crap.
I'm considering a) getting another phone jack upstairs, and moving my DSL modem there, or b) stringing some CAT-5 cable from the modem downstairs to the PC upstairs. Putting a wireless PCI card in my upstairs desktop PC might also solve the problem, but the PC only has one PCI slot, and I'd rather keep it free, if at all possible.
QUESTION: Is there any kind of "wireless repeater", where I can a) get wireless access from my DSL modem/wireless base station downstairs, and b) give me some spare Ethernet ports, so I can plug in desktop PC (so the PC can have a wired Ethernet connection)? POSSIBLE SOLUTION: I have an old Linksys WRT54G router that I'm not using. Q: Is there any way to configure it for this purpose? Q: Would it be possible to use it for this purpose if I installed OpenWRT?
