Software :: K3b Can't Determines Size Of Image File : Brasero Won't Mult-session
Jan 18, 2010
When I first installed K3b it burned the first track with no GUI user configurations. The second time it says that the file name is too long and asks if you want to catenate (shorten) it even if it is the same file you have already burned that didn't ask for this shortening of the file name before. Than it gives you an error of "Could not determine size of resulting image file". So my question is how do you use K3b I guess. Brasero won't do multi-session as far I can deduct. It will ask if you want to do it but after ask if you want to erase the disc.If you force it there is no entry of the previous burns. If I could get Brasero to muli-session it would sovle my problem as well. Here's the debugging stuff. I'm using this on Gnome.

After screwing up an update to Ubuntu 11.04 I decided to do a clean install. I tried downloading the AMD64 DVD image of 11.04 but I have found that some of the files cannot be downloaded and appear to have bad file size. In several mirrors and repositories I found the image size to be only 46.1 MB! (Yes, thats "Mega"-bytes, not Giga-bytes. I ftp'd to the repositories/mirror sites and confirmed this.) Yet in many of the HTTP pages it shows as 4.0 GB.I can't believe that the true size is 46.1 MB as the i386 DVD image is over 3 GB. 4.0 GB sound right, but doesn't match the actual file size. So, how long until it gets updated?

I created a VM disk image with kvm-img, but I forget what was the max size of that disk image when I created it. Currently, its size is 6.2G, I want to install some large packages in that VM, so I want to make sure the disk image can expand to an adequate size.

I have a CentOS5 server with a 1tb hard drive. There is only 80gb of data on that huge drive and now I want to make a bare metal recovery backup using AcronisMy question is, how can I estimate the amount of time the backup will take and the size of the image file? Is it based on the size of my drive or is it based on the amount of data on the drive?

I recently switched distributions, I let a guy talk me into switching from Ubuntu 8.04 to Mint 9. Since the switch, I have had a lot of issues that I have mainly worked out myself. I have posted all of it on the Mint forum, but there hasn't been much help available there. I have been told that Mint 9 is based on the newest release of Ubuntu (Lucid Lynx), so I thought I would post over here to see if anyone could help me. The only thing that's still giving me fits are the 3 software programs above. Using k9copy and trying to burn directly to disc, I am getting the error that I took the screenshot of. I then burned it as an iso image and saved it, then tried to use k3b and brasero to burn it that way and got errors with both of those programs.
From k3b:

Ubuntu 10.04, xsane 0.996, Brother MFC 240c scanner.I just finished writing a long dissertation on my problem with this scanning environment (which I will spare you). In a nutshell the resulting image, when printed, is smaller than the original document. In writing my dissertation for this post I determined that the cause of the issue is that xsane believes I am scanning an 8.5 x 14 inch document when I am in fact scanning an 8.5 x 11 letter. So the question is... can I change the size to 8.5 x 11? and if so, how? I have not found anything in the xsane Preferences.

I've been using Brasero to burn iso images on DVD-Rs, and although the burns are successful (I know by testing them), Brasero doesn't seem to perform its file/image integrity check from Tools>Check Integrity. The Brasero plugin "File checksum" or "Image checksum" is checked (can't have both checked), and when I perform a manual check with an md5 file and its burned DVD,it"always" gives me, immediately, a success message: "the file integrity was performed successfully," even when I insert a different image with the previous md5 file! So, immediate response (doesn't seem to be checking anything, I know that a 4Gb DVD md5 checking should take some time), and success whatever the DVD image used with one md5 file. Something must be wrong or the feature is broken.

After upgrading to Lucid RC I notice that I cannot create a CD image anymore. Brasero gives me three options : two .toc and one .cue file format but neither of them work the CDDAO variant of the .toc format gives me a notification that i need to install some extra packages but even after installing those, the image creation hangs. I used to be able to create .iso images but that option has completely gone...

I'm using Ubuntu 9.1 to try to make a disk image of my Windows operating system that I'd like to save to an external hard drive. Currently, I'm just running Ubuntu off the cd. Having checked the "Ubuntu Software Centre" on my computer, I notice that it has Brasero installed, and I was wondering:
1) First off, where can I find it? (Is there a search function in Ubuntu like Windows?)
2) Is Brasero a good choice to create a disk image?

I am trying to upload some pics on my Facebook account using Firefox. When I click on Facebook's file upload icon, Firefox bring up a 'File Upload' window. I noticed that smaller image file is previewed on the lower right hand corner, while bigger image file is not. Is there anyway I can change this behavior or maybe change what Firefox is using to browse my files?

I recently tried to burn an ISO image to a DVD. Everything seemed to be going fine except Brasero froze at "Finalizing". It stayed there for about 10 minutes before I gave up. When I hit cancel nothing happened. When I tried to eject the drive nothing happened. Not until I shut the computer down and restarted was I able to open my DVD drive. Upon trying to read the disc no computer shows that it has anything on it.

I need a command that will check the size (visual size, not file size) of every image in a folder and its sub folders, and make a copy (or even better, a hard link) of that file in a second directory if the image is larger than 1920x1080 pixels (in both dimensions, not just total area). Also, lots of these file names have spaces, so the command needs to be space-tolerant
I'm guessing I would need to use one of the imagemagick commands and find, but I'm not sure where to start. I'm still reading man pages, but I thought someone here might save me some time.

I've been working on getting another OS installed on my computer for one of my classes (OS specific assembly instructions). To get this OS running, I had to start using a GPT rather than a MBR table. I backed up my Ubuntu partition (ext4) using the old-fashioned dd command. I've since been able to get everything working again after a dd restore.
The problem is that my original Ubuntu partition was only about 50GB and the dd image only takes up 40 GB. After I restored the image to the new drive (146BG), gparted is reporting 119GB used and only 26GB free. What can I do to reduce the size of my install to 40GB again?
When looking at the disk in baobab, it says the the filesystem is only 47.2 GB and that only 20.9 GB has been used. This is likely what the old partition's breakdown was. So my new question is: How can I make the filesystem capacity (47.2 GB) equal that of the partition that it is on (146 GB)?

Forgetting bad past experience (in debian i386 and amd64), I have newly lost a new DVD in trying to create a data disk with brasero with debian i386. After successful simulation at the lowest speed, burning failed and I expect that the disk is no more good (this occurred in the past). In the past I complained with debian, getting no answer.
In contrast, I tried k3b with full success. However, as a gnome user, installation of k3b brought in so much of kde that proper use of gnome was prevented. Can anyone tell of an installation of k3b that does not hinder gnome? In particular not the startx procedure (as I normally work without calling the x server).

When I use a media PC to watch MP4s they generally show up nicely with a scrollable selection of "covers" to select which clip I want to watch (like covers of film DVDs). How is this determined and is there software that allows this to be edited and changed?
I want to edit some video clips and present them in a professional display with the other clips I have. Ideally this would mean I could create a "title page" like a DVD cover
