Whats missing is exact size of image.udf. E.g. what should be exact value of $Z ?

3) write files to /mnt/udf
4) umount /mnt/udf
5) growisofs -speed=8 -Z /dev/scd0=image.udf
I have a partition containing 41.3 gigs of files (see screen shot) but in Gparted and in the graphic of space used it shows 54.7 gigs. I have highlighted all files (including the hidden ones) and still the size records as 41.3

Though also, is their a way I could copy the file in a terminal and it print out the info such as average speed and/or total time it took to complete. I'm trying to fight some bad reviews on this flash drive I bought that performs very well, and since stupid comment vs stupid comment doesn't win anything I need to apparently be the first to actually test this drive throughly.

I have a PC that has two internal drives: one drive (drive A) is empty, and the other (drive B) has a copy of windows vista installed. At the moment the PC boots from drive A. I'd like to transfer everything from drive A to drive B, so that this new disk will boot and behave nicely and windows will still function.
Is there any easy way to do this in ubuntu? I'm guessing I can use something like dd, but will this copy the boot sector and will I have to mess around with the partition table? Long version of the problem
Today I built a new PC for my dad with two internal drives. He was previously using vista on a laptop which died a few days ago, and I'd like to install vista on one disk of the new PC, and ubuntu on the other disk.
He has a licensed copy of Vista for his laptop, but it came as a "system restore" disk, and so I can't install vista directly onto the new PC. I have an identical laptop to his, so I took out the drive from his laptop, put it in my laptop, and did a "system restore" from the disk that came with the laptop. I then took out the drive from my laptop, and put this inside the new PC. It boots up fine, and I installed all the necessary drivers and etc to make windows work.
Now instead of using a slow/small laptop drive inside the new PC, I'd like to be able to clone the data on laptop disk and this onto one of the bigger/faster internal drives of the new PC. How can I do this from ubuntu, so that the new drive will boot windows?
I'm fairly certain it can be done using dd, but how do I make sure the information in the boot sector (or partition table) is correct for the new drive? I'm asking this because when I put my laptop drive into the new PC initially, I had connected it as an external drive, and when I tried booting from this there was an error, something like "Invalid partition table" (I think). I figured that when I did a "system restore" on my laptop, the drive was the only drive available, so this would be HDA, or SDA in the boot record of that disk. But when I added it to a system where other drives were available, it was no longer at that same location, so the boot loader couldn't find the data it was looking for to load the system.
I've been out of the Linux loop for a little while, but a customer of mine wants a "No Virus) desktop environment, I have gone through the process of installing and configuring Ubuntu 10.10 to work with their client side software, but for the life of me, I can't remember if or how I can create an exact image of this file-system to install on all of the desktops.I would need to have all of the installed programs, Security Certificates, Display settings... basically, I need exactly what I have right now installed from the disc so that "IF" the customer needs to install the environment on new systems, I can just pop the disc in and run.
View 1 Replies View RelatedUbuntu 10.04, xsane 0.996, Brother MFC 240c scanner.I just finished writing a long dissertation on my problem with this scanning environment (which I will spare you). In a nutshell the resulting image, when printed, is smaller than the original document. In writing my dissertation for this post I determined that the cause of the issue is that xsane believes I am scanning an 8.5 x 14 inch document when I am in fact scanning an 8.5 x 11 letter. So the question is... can I change the size to 8.5 x 11? and if so, how? I have not found anything in the xsane Preferences.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI expected more from ubuntu 10.4 with regards to printing with exact size photos and with poor auto colour printing but the situation remains unchanged! for instance .. the photo size configurations for ubuntu/fspot/gimp and others are not compatible with my printers (HP and Brother) .. here in Europe a typical standard size photo (10x15inches or 150x100mm are not even on the Ubuntu listing? I have tried all listed possibilities including "custom" (which does not seem to ever work correctly?)and the result at best is photos with uneven boarders or at worse my printer goes a bit crazy with much wasted photo paper and expensive ink ...even photos selected for "no boarders" still produces photos with the self same uneven boarders.
I have tried pretty much everything over time following advice in this forum and including using HPlip and updating drivers required for my Brother printer but the root problem seemingly lies with the Ubunto photo size setup listing. Working with Ubuntu over the years I have found that it can do pretty much everything that Windows can do except for this dam ongoing photo quality and configuration problem.

I tried downloading the AMD64 DVD image of 11.04 but I have found that some of the files cannot be downloaded and appear to have bad file size. In several mirrors and repositories I found the image size to be only 46.1 MB! (Yes, thats "Mega"-bytes, not Giga-bytes. I ftp'd to the repositories/mirror sites and confirmed this.) Yet in many of the HTTP pages it shows as 4.0 GB.I can't believe that the true size is 46.1 MB as the i386 DVD image is over 3 GB. 4.0 GB sound right, but doesn't match the actual file size. So, how long until it gets updated?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI need a command that will check the size (visual size, not file size) of every image in a folder and its sub folders, and make a copy (or even better, a hard link) of that file in a second directory if the image is larger than 1920x1080 pixels (in both dimensions, not just total area). Also, lots of these file names have spaces, so the command needs to be space-tolerant
I'm guessing I would need to use one of the imagemagick commands and find, but I'm not sure where to start. I'm still reading man pages, but I thought someone here might save me some time.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've been working on getting another OS installed on my computer for one of my classes (OS specific assembly instructions). To get this OS running, I had to start using a GPT rather than a MBR table. I backed up my Ubuntu partition (ext4) using the old-fashioned dd command. I've since been able to get everything working again after a dd restore.
The problem is that my original Ubuntu partition was only about 50GB and the dd image only takes up 40 GB. After I restored the image to the new drive (146BG), gparted is reporting 119GB used and only 26GB free. What can I do to reduce the size of my install to 40GB again?
When looking at the disk in baobab, it says the the filesystem is only 47.2 GB and that only 20.9 GB has been used. This is likely what the old partition's breakdown was. So my new question is: How can I make the filesystem capacity (47.2 GB) equal that of the partition that it is on (146 GB)?
A friend has sent me an .iso by ftp, only trouble is it is 7gb and all my blanks are 4.7gb

So I am looking at getting a new laptop in a few weeks when i pull in from deployment. I am looking at getting a laptop that can run games and I would go with a desktop but I am to mobile to really enjoy a desktop.What I noticed is most laptops I look at that hit what I want has a bluray drive which I know there is no current video support for it but will the disc drive still work for Ubuntu 10.04 for DVD' and Cd's even though it is bluray?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I first installed K3b it burned the first track with no GUI user configurations.The second time it says that the file name is too long and asks if you want to catenate (shorten) it even if it is the same file you have already burned that didn't ask for this shortening of the file name before. Than it gives you an error of "Could not determine size of resulting image file". So my question is how do you use K3b I guess. Brasero won't do multi-session as far I can deduct. It will ask if you want to do it but after ask if you want to erase the disc.If you force it there is no entry of the previous burns.If I could get Brasero to muli-session it would sovle my problem as well. Here's the debugging stuff. I'm using this on Gnome.

Is it possible to install a bluray ripper via the terminal that can be used via the terminal?
I'm using xbmc and from what I've read it's not possible in the frontend.
I am having problems playing dvds on my laptop which is a bluray player. I cannot even play regular dvds, I can read them and see there is stuff there, but cannot play them in mplayer or totem.

Both gThumb and Geeqie image viewers have limited maximum size for thumbernails. Is there any way to work with bigger thumbernails (or slide photos)?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to buy another laptop. I want to use FC on it. I need bluray because I want to save data on bluray disks of 25 gb (better than dvds, more space). I have one option, a fujitsu that has bluray writer, big display (I have another one, other model, same size and it's working fine with Fc14, only some small issues).
Second option is a Dell (I had an older dell inspiron before, which worked fine with FC), more expensive, lacking a writer, but it can read bluray. If I take this, I would have to also buy an external bluray writer. Has nice specs, but I am really worried about the graphic card, whether I can make it work with Fc14. I saw some people having problems with linux and this graphic card, while searching on google.
Here's specs for both (sorry for the language from website, but I found in English other specs than these, I guess the specs can be read easily): Dell XPS L702x and FUJITSU Lifebook NH570 I am inclining more towards the Fujitsu, but haven't decided yet.
I am running Fedora 14, 64 bit. For running Skype, I've installed all the 32 bit libraries needed, using this command:

Everything is cool, till I realized, that I still hadn't configured yum to keep downloaded rpm's in the cache :-( And I am ALWAYS keeping the downloaded rpm's !!! I have the filenames from the terminal, but can't figure out how to download them again (easily). I immediately thought of yumdownloader, but it doesn't work as I need it to:
