View 1 RepliesMultiple dirs full of mp3s All strictly encoded with exactly the same parameters (CBR 128kbps, Joint-Stereo, etc) Is it possible to determine the total playing time (to within ~98% accuracy) by some formula based on the total file size? I say ~98% accurate since ID3 tags do consume a small amount of space.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi have a folder with 10 files and i would like to determine the size of each file. i was trying the command
Code:
du -sh foldername
but i receive the total size .
I have the following which works but think there must be a easier one-liner way of doing this which involves not writing to a file but have failed to find something that works This is what I have:
Code:
du -m $i > filesize.txt
FILESIZE=$`cat "filesize.txt" | cut -f1
rm filesize.txt
I then use the FILESIZE to compare to a number.
As the title says, I'm looking for a program that will go through all images in a directory tree and determine if they're valid, if they've been corrupted, and (wishful thinking) if they have the wrong extension. Does anything like that exist?
View 7 Replies View RelatedAfter screwing up an update to Ubuntu 11.04 I decided to do a clean install. I tried downloading the AMD64 DVD image of 11.04 but I have found that some of the files cannot be downloaded and appear to have bad file size. In several mirrors and repositories I found the image size to be only 46.1 MB! (Yes, thats "Mega"-bytes, not Giga-bytes. I ftp'd to the repositories/mirror sites and confirmed this.) Yet in many of the HTTP pages it shows as 4.0 GB.I can't believe that the true size is 46.1 MB as the i386 DVD image is over 3 GB. 4.0 GB sound right, but doesn't match the actual file size. So, how long until it gets updated?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI created a VM disk image with kvm-img, but I forget what was the max size of that disk image when I created it. Currently, its size is 6.2G, I want to install some large packages in that VM, so I want to make sure the disk image can expand to an adequate size.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I first installed K3b it burned the first track with no GUI user configurations. The second time it says that the file name is too long and asks if you want to catenate (shorten) it even if it is the same file you have already burned that didn't ask for this shortening of the file name before. Than it gives you an error of "Could not determine size of resulting image file". So my question is how do you use K3b I guess. Brasero won't do multi-session as far I can deduct. It will ask if you want to do it but after ask if you want to erase the disc.If you force it there is no entry of the previous burns. If I could get Brasero to muli-session it would sovle my problem as well. Here's the debugging stuff. I'm using this on Gnome.

I have a CentOS5 server with a 1tb hard drive. There is only 80gb of data on that huge drive and now I want to make a bare metal recovery backup using AcronisMy question is, how can I estimate the amount of time the backup will take and the size of the image file? Is it based on the size of my drive or is it based on the amount of data on the drive?
View 1 Replies View RelatedUbuntu 10.04, xsane 0.996, Brother MFC 240c scanner.I just finished writing a long dissertation on my problem with this scanning environment (which I will spare you). In a nutshell the resulting image, when printed, is smaller than the original document. In writing my dissertation for this post I determined that the cause of the issue is that xsane believes I am scanning an 8.5 x 14 inch document when I am in fact scanning an 8.5 x 11 letter. So the question is... can I change the size to 8.5 x 11? and if so, how? I have not found anything in the xsane Preferences.

I am trying to upload some pics on my Facebook account using Firefox. When I click on Facebook's file upload icon, Firefox bring up a 'File Upload' window. I noticed that smaller image file is previewed on the lower right hand corner, while bigger image file is not. Is there anyway I can change this behavior or maybe change what Firefox is using to browse my files?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to determine the IO size that is being used for reads and writes to an attached storage device? I am trying to pattern the IO sequences to storage. I have seen mentions to max_sectors_kb but the notes indicated that changing this value did not change the IO size to the storage.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to generate a temporary random list from a directory of files and then determine the size of an arbitrary block of files from this list (say 1-25 or 26-50) and add their names to a file along with some other info for each name. I can generate a random list with file sizes like this: ls -l | sort -R | cut -d " " -f 6 but i'm not sure how to add up the sizes of just a certain block of these files and at the same time save the file names.
View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes Recordmydesktop have a file size limit? I'm considering using the Zero compression setting to keep CPU usage down, but I don't want to run up against a 2GB or 4GB file size limit. While I know some filesystems impose this limit, most screen recorders I've used have a 2GB or 4GB limit when recording, regardless of the filesystem. Is this an issue with Recordmydesktop
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have rendered out less than two minutes of High Definition animation to Avi-Jpeg Format in Blender. Now, I have this 2 GB file. Going at this rate, it's going to take a whole DVD set to play a 15 min movie.
Surely, this file doesn't need 2 GB just for 1:45 min/sec, right? Even at high def? How do I reduce this file size down to like a manageable number, say, 20 miB?
Are there software that can split big file size into small file size in Linux?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using a basic ffmpeg command to convert some avis into mp4 : file01.avi - 544x416, 368MB
Code:
$ ffmpeg -i file01.avi -vb 750k -s 432x336 file01.vb750.432x336.mp4
After conversion :
file01.vb750.432x336.mp4 - 432x336, 302Mb.
If I alter the output file dimensions to 352x272 I then get a file size of 301MB, which is just 1MB less than the file of dimensions 432x336 ? I had expected size to be 30-40MB lower. I do not want to compromise quality by reducing the bitrate to below 750 kb/s so how can I alter the ffmpeg command syntax to get a considerably smaller file size with video dimensions 352x272 ? I would like to use the default codecs and avoid x264 for the mean time.
Is it possible to embed audio file to an image in ubuntu?
It's possible in Windows 7, when saving just the image from an imagechan.
I need to mount an audio only image file. The only program I'm aware of is cdEmu, unfortunately, since my upgrade to 11.04 x86_64, It was removed during the process. Any other programs/commands capable of mounting an image file? And no, I do not want to burn, extract, or convert. Just mount.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI changed the case of one letter ('N' to 'n') in a track name using Rhythmbox and the result is a file which is 7727 bytes smaller than the original (I saved a copy of the original file before editing the track name). The file is in ogg/vorbis format (160 Kb/s). I changed the track name back and the file size didn't change. However, the contents of the file are still drastically different (vastly more changed than merely the letter in the track name).I'm worried that Rhythmbox is doing something dreadful like decoding the file, changing the track name, and then completely re-encoding the file from scratch (meaning it runs the decoded audio through the lossy encoder to regenerate the file). Does anyone know whether or not Rhythmbox is doing this when the user edits the meta data (like the track name, artist, etc.)?

View 1 Replies View RelatedHas anyone else noticed an increase in file size of ripped CD tracks to MP3 between previous releases of Ubuntu and Karmic? Specifically using the same Gstreamer pipeline settings the file size in Karmic is now considerably larger than in previous releases like Jaunty or Intrepid. Is there a fix for this bug. Seems like Sound Juicer/Rhythmbox have some significant bugs in Karmic!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am writting a script to allow uploading of certain files. I want to limit the files by their filename and mime type, and by making sure the two match up.The first thing I need to do is make sure I've got all the mime types I need added. I have never done this before, but I understand that 'file' (which is what PHP's mime-type finding is based off of) uses magic databases that tell at which point in the file should have signatures of the filetype.
My trouble started when I was unable to determine the filetype of any of my video files. Currently, I have some .MOV and .MP4 files that I am using to test.
I knew it is easy to change / add , album art in any mp3 songs by dragging appropriate image file on rythmbox, it is working fine with Rythmbox but when I am playing the same song from another application like VLC,totem the album art is not showing. If I quit rythmbox ,and the song is open again in rythmbox, it sosometime showing the album art but sometime not.It is also not showing in my mobile phone.
After a little bit searching about this I came to know that EasyTag can do this,I have installed EasyTag from software centre but it remains dim with the mp3 files. how to change the album art permanently,so that the album art can see from any software and device like mobile , ipod etc.
I have a display problem since updating to Slackware 13.37. Everything was fine on Slackware 13.1, but when I switched to 13.37 some piece of software came up with the wrong monitor size. I have a 1600x900 LCD monitor but the X screen came up as 1024x768 with blackness on either side of it. Under Slackware 13.1 the X screen came up as 1600x900 as it should without any prompting from me; I didn't even have an Xorg.conf file. I tried using the Xorg.conf file which was needed and work for older Slackwares, eg 12.*, but it didn't work. (Saying it didn't work is a gross understatement! That old Xorg.conf completely screwed up mouse, keyboard, and monitor; the screen was flashing and nothing worked. The only way to get control back was to SSH into the machine from my laptop and reboot. Killing the X server via that SSH console did NOT the flashing or get me back to my console login; only reboot worked.)
I find I can get the screen to be the right size manually by going through KDE's "System Settings" --> "Display and Monitor" --> "Size & Orientation", then disabling "LVDS1" and setting VGA1 to 1600x900. The size of my odd-sized monitor is being correctly detected for the "Auto" choice. Upon reboot LVDS1 stays disabled but VGA1 reverts to 1024x768 so I have to do this each time.I've done some search of the on-line literature regarding the error messages I am seeing in the boot log.
People are suggesting changing all kinds of things to alleviate the side effects of the "conflicting" error message above, even modifying GRUB parameters (which won't work for me since I use LILO).So, I have a manual work around which I must do each time I log in. Does someone know how I can get X or KDE to force 1600x900 upon start (while Linux/X/whoever find and fix the problem) or does someone know of a real fix?
