A friend has sent me an .iso by ftp, only trouble is it is 7gb and all my blanks are 4.7gb
Any simple suggestions, I am totally inexperienced working with DVD's so not sure how to re-size without ruining the content!
Ubuntu 10.04, xsane 0.996, Brother MFC 240c scanner.I just finished writing a long dissertation on my problem with this scanning environment (which I will spare you). In a nutshell the resulting image, when printed, is smaller than the original document. In writing my dissertation for this post I determined that the cause of the issue is that xsane believes I am scanning an 8.5 x 14 inch document when I am in fact scanning an 8.5 x 11 letter. So the question is... can I change the size to 8.5 x 11? and if so, how? I have not found anything in the xsane Preferences.
View 7 Replies View Relatedi am using rhel5 and i just wanted to see the contents of the initrd image. I have copied that from /boot/grub and saved in /tmp directory. Then i did the following
#mv initrd-2.6.18-53.el5.img initrd-2.6.18-53.el5.img.gz
#gunzip initrd-2.6.18-53.el5.img.gz
#mount -o loop initrd-2.6.18-53.el5.img /mnt
when i gave that, it says "mount: you must specify the filesystem type" Then i included "-t ext2" option in the mount command. Now it says,
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop0,
missing codepage or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so
Then i created a ext2 filesystem and did the same thing. But there is no difference.
When I am in the middle of reading a post in Akgregator and I decide I need larger characters, I press [Ctrl [+]] to increase font size. This increases the characters displayed but also displaces my vertical reading position so that I have to scroll to the text I have been reading.

I am trying to burn mac osx 10.5 install disk from from a 6.7gb dmg disk image. I thought I would be using 2 DVD-R 4.7GB discsfor this burn, I was hoping when the first was full it would ask for another to finish the burn. Instead it get the message that the DVD will not hold the choosen DMG. file.
Can I do anything besides buy a dual layer DVD that would hold the whole file?
CanoScan LiDE 210 running under 10.10 on a Tosh Tecra M11-130 laptop.Currently trying out xsane to archive some paperwork in monochrome, as the bundled Simple Scan utility can only save in either colour or greyscale. The problem is that the same A4 page saved as monochrome has a file size about three times larger in Ubuntu than in Windoze.
The scan mode options are either 'Colour', 'Greyscale' or 'Lineart'. There is no 'halftone' setting available, as shown in some of the xsane manuals. Don't know whether this is significant to this issue. Xsane's main option window shows 3508 x 2480 x 1 bit for a 300 dpi A4 monochrome scan when 'lineart' is selected, but the intermediate file size is 8.3MB instead of just over 1MB before packing for the PDF. This is consistent with each pixel not being recorded as a 1 or a 0, but as a greyscale 11111111 or 00000000, i.e. monochrome/halftone, but stored in an eight bit field. how to tweak xsane for true monochrome intermediate .pnm files and saved PDFs?
I think I am having a problem due to an NFS server file size limit. Is it possible I am missing a parameter on the RHEL NFS setup to handle large files? I am running an NFS server on a RHEL 5.1 machine and the HP-UX 11.0 machine does an NFS mount to that file system. The HP-UX executes a program that resides on the HP-UX machine to process a large 35 GB data file that resides on the NFS server machine. The program on the HP-UX can only read/process the first portion of the file until an "RPC: Authentication error" is returned multiple times until the program prematurely decides that it has reached the end of file.
I tried recompiling the same program to run on the RHEL 5.1 NFS server to access the 35 GB file locally (on the NFS server instead on HP-UX) and the program completed successfully, processing the whole file (about 7 hours of processing) with no "RPC: Authentication error." In addition, I have been running the nfs mount with the same machines for quite some time, but not with such large files sizes.
Just purchased a webcam and it worked immediatelly with kopete. This was in the configuration dialog, a small window showed me moving around in all my gloriousness. Now realise why those horror films show this sort of footage.
Thing is: how to make the image bigger, fill the screen? Is there a program? Don't say rtfm, I don't know enough to do that.
When I installed opensuse 11.2 64-bit (KDE) the installer set the root partition to 20GB by default. That seemed unnecessarily large, so I reduced it to 16GB. I then completed the install (basically a default KDE install minus games & educational stuff) and still had more than 8GB free. I'm aware that these days hard drive storage space is quite cheap, but it's not so cheap for me as I have an SSD. Would it not be reasonable to reduce the default root partition size to 12GB, or perhaps vary it according to the software package load selected?

Web browser (Google Chrome)
IDE (Komodo)
Terminal (Gnome Terminal)
Email (Thunderbird)
I can configure text size on IDE, Terminal and Email. But for Chrome, it is not a good idea to set proportional font size because often one wants to see the entire (not just proportional fonts) site to be zoomed. So I am asking: Is it possible to increase DPI in Ubuntu (much like on Windows) so as to increase the text size across all apps? OR Is it possible to set permanent 'zoom' in Google Chrome, using a third-party extension maybe?
I have some large image files that are 30 gig and more. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 whenever I try to copy one of these files to another drive I get a error saying the file is too large. I am trying to copy from an external Hard Drive or a slave drive does the same thing. I have a friend who has expressed the same issue. This must be a widespread bug.

I use KRandRTray to resize back to 1024 X 768. How can I set 1024 X 768 as the default but still have the option to go to 1920 X 1200?

Our customer was doing some penetration testing with our web app that writes to one of those NFS shares. We are not sure if they did something to cause the metadata to grow so large or if it is corrupt. Here is the listing:drwxrwxr-x 1 owner owner 470M Jun 24 18:15 temp.badI guess the metadata could actually be that large, however we have been unable to perform any operations on that directory to determine if the directory is just loaded with files or corrupted. We have not run an fsck on the volume because we would need to schedule downtime for out customers to do so. Has anyone come across this before
View 2 Replies View RelatedNo matter what desktop I use, there are 5 nepomuk processes and one virtuoso-t process running, taking up quite a lot of CPU in total. These stupid things have been ruining my Ubuntu and KDE experience ever since I upgraded to 10.4. I want to have those things NEVER run again, no matter what they're for, preferably by editing a config file because using graphical settings in KDE hasn't actually disabled them.
EDIT: If I kill the process nepomukservices, it keeps coming back! Who does that??? I installed KDE 3.5 now (instead of the very bad KDE 4). I have no setting to disable desktop search, because the brilliant and good KDE 3.5 has no such useless, CPU hogging, feature. But somehow the evil KDE 4 still manages to hog down my system by keeping to spawn this nepomukservices process all the time even when I'm not logged into KDE4 at all!
I have a large image that I want to print over 4 pages, each page showing 1/4 of the overall image, that I will past together. I'm doing this from GIMP on an up-to-date fc12 system. Searching around I find that there is a "scale" field in the print dialog and the lp command that cups supports and according to the documentation if I set scale to "200%" it should do what I want.However, when I set scale to 200% I get only one page with the upper left 1/4 of the page and then nothing. How do I get it to print the remaining 3 pages?

2) I have two drives, one a 200GB partition on my notebook drive and a 250GB portable drive where I store Data. Both are NTFS filesystems.

I installed Fedora 15/Gnome 3 because I liked the Universal Access Settings widget for controlling the appearance of my living room computer attached to my TV. It should (when it becomes more stable) make it easy to zoom in on the screen when I'm on the couch. There is also a Large Text setting that allows me to toggle between normal text size and perhaps 125% text size.
I'd like to set that value to about 200%, but don't see how to do it. dconf-editor didn't seem to have a way. gnome-tweak-tool has a way to make all fonts bigger or smaller but I want to easily switch between normal text size when I'm sitting close and large text from the UAS. Screwing around with gnome-tweak-tool would require me to be up-close. It looks like UAS is controlled by /usr/share/gnome-control-center/ui/uap.ui, but it is a wickedly complex xml file & I don't know what to edit. Is there a per user way to change the behavior?

View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter screwing up an update to Ubuntu 11.04 I decided to do a clean install. I tried downloading the AMD64 DVD image of 11.04 but I have found that some of the files cannot be downloaded and appear to have bad file size. In several mirrors and repositories I found the image size to be only 46.1 MB! (Yes, thats "Mega"-bytes, not Giga-bytes. I ftp'd to the repositories/mirror sites and confirmed this.) Yet in many of the HTTP pages it shows as 4.0 GB.I can't believe that the true size is 46.1 MB as the i386 DVD image is over 3 GB. 4.0 GB sound right, but doesn't match the actual file size. So, how long until it gets updated?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm new to setting up Linux Servers. I've setup a Ubuntu 10.10 Server along with CUPS and I'm using Webmin to talk to the server. I have a HP PSC 1315 Multifunction printer connected via usb to the server. Using the CUPS web interface I am able to get the server to detect the connected printer and it identified the HP PSC 1310 Series drivers.
When I printer a test page from the server's screen the print job goes through ok and the size was about 5k.
I then setup a samba share to allow my Windows 7 machine to share the printer. Windows 7 is able to pick up the shared printer correctly and I used the default HP 1310 Series drivers. When I tried to send a test page to the printer, that single page ended up being 3887kb and I also tried printing out a single paged word document which ended up being over 7MB.
I need a command that will check the size (visual size, not file size) of every image in a folder and its sub folders, and make a copy (or even better, a hard link) of that file in a second directory if the image is larger than 1920x1080 pixels (in both dimensions, not just total area). Also, lots of these file names have spaces, so the command needs to be space-tolerant
I'm guessing I would need to use one of the imagemagick commands and find, but I'm not sure where to start. I'm still reading man pages, but I thought someone here might save me some time.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've been working on getting another OS installed on my computer for one of my classes (OS specific assembly instructions). To get this OS running, I had to start using a GPT rather than a MBR table. I backed up my Ubuntu partition (ext4) using the old-fashioned dd command. I've since been able to get everything working again after a dd restore.
The problem is that my original Ubuntu partition was only about 50GB and the dd image only takes up 40 GB. After I restored the image to the new drive (146BG), gparted is reporting 119GB used and only 26GB free. What can I do to reduce the size of my install to 40GB again?
When looking at the disk in baobab, it says the the filesystem is only 47.2 GB and that only 20.9 GB has been used. This is likely what the old partition's breakdown was. So my new question is: How can I make the filesystem capacity (47.2 GB) equal that of the partition that it is on (146 GB)?
When I try to burn some .flv files onto a DVD iso using K3B, it gives me the message: "Could not determine size of resulting image file"
View 1 Replies View Relatedi have to upload a signature image(in jpeg format) to fill a recruitment form which says file-size must be of between 10-20 kb......i have scanned image which is of 9.5 kb.....tried to edit in shotwell photo manager....tried some random things in Adjust and crop menu but my little changes didn't work, it always shortened the file size......as i don't know anything about Image editing can someone tell me how can i increase the file size (>=10kb) i also tried gnome-screenshot to take the screenshot of the image, but it also saved the new image smaller than 10kb....

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I first installed K3b it burned the first track with no GUI user configurations.The second time it says that the file name is too long and asks if you want to catenate (shorten) it even if it is the same file you have already burned that didn't ask for this shortening of the file name before. Than it gives you an error of "Could not determine size of resulting image file". So my question is how do you use K3b I guess. Brasero won't do multi-session as far I can deduct. It will ask if you want to do it but after ask if you want to erase the disc.If you force it there is no entry of the previous burns.If I could get Brasero to muli-session it would sovle my problem as well. Here's the debugging stuff. I'm using this on Gnome.
