I would like to make a script that determines if a particular package is installed or not. Is there a built in way to do this with rpm or am I looking at getting down and dirty with learning parsing tricks with bash?

I just installed a package with yum but I can't find any files associated with it. My question: is there a way to make yum tell you which files were installed from a package?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have installed a package on Centos 5.5, and need to find out the repository it came from, so I can enable the source rpms for that particular repository, and download the source, and rebuild the package. Is there some way using yum or rpm to find out which repo the installed package came from? I know Smart PM shows this info, but it has been hanging on Centos 5.5, for some strange reason, so that's not really an option for now.

How can I find information about what files it has installed and where? I was expecting to get some header files from this package but cannot find them in the normal places like /usr/include etc.
When I try to do an update I get an error-message. There are no duplicates and --skip-broken doesn't resolve anything.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Lenovo T500 laptop with 4 GB RAM. I have installed Windows 7 64bits OEM on my laptop HD. I also installed Fedora 14 on my USB External Hard Drive which it has it own boot sector. I don't want to have a dual boot. So if I plug in my external HD to my laptop and turns the machine on, it automatically my Fedora comes up, other wise my windows 7. (I set up start-up boot drive , first to USB External HD and then internal HD)
I installed KVM (Virtual Machine Manger) on my Fedora 14 and I am trying to install windows 7 64bits OEM on my Fedora 14 as Virtual Machine. After setting everything and start installing windows form CD, I got BLUE SCREEN right after "WINDOWS FILES LOADING..." finished. it shows me a blue screen and then it will stop
Questions:
1- How can I fix that problem?
2- Is ther way to make a Virtual Machine on my Fedora using my exiting installed windows 7 on my laptop HD?

i have to use lh command. I have installed all updates for ubuntu, live-build (the package for lh) and its updates. So my system is fully updated.When i hit "lh" command i get the following message: The program 'lh' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:

The problem is I have a desktop with ubuntu 10.04 and My network card...Huwaei runs fine but if I install on my latop with above specs it does not detemine the modem but it determines the micro SD in it...
Is the problem related with laptop or my network card...

When I first installed K3b it burned the first track with no GUI user configurations.The second time it says that the file name is too long and asks if you want to catenate (shorten) it even if it is the same file you have already burned that didn't ask for this shortening of the file name before. Than it gives you an error of "Could not determine size of resulting image file". So my question is how do you use K3b I guess. Brasero won't do multi-session as far I can deduct. It will ask if you want to do it but after ask if you want to erase the disc.If you force it there is no entry of the previous burns.If I could get Brasero to muli-session it would sovle my problem as well. Here's the debugging stuff. I'm using this on Gnome.

"checkinstall" seems to be not installed "sudo apt-get make" does not work. I have no internet connection with linux, because I have no idea how I install the network card. I guess this sudo command use internet? Is there another way to compile that program? (And just by the way, why must this be so difficult?

After the installation, it took me quite a while to find where the package manager put the executable, but I found it.The problem is, I can't figure out how to get it to execute. I tried double clicking on it and I tried right clicking on it and selecting "Execute" from the menu that pops up.
How do I get an executable to execute? Also, is there an easy way to track down where the executables get put after I use the Synaptics Package Manager?It would be handy if I could put links to them in some central location.

Is this method the correct one if I want to forbid a foo package from being installed, even if this foo package is a dependency of another package? For example, geoclue is a dependency of Steam. However, I still want to install Steam, but not geoclue.

I don't know which package would install it. apt-cache seems to only search names and descriptions. dpkg -S seems to only search through installed packages. I need to find a package that's not yet installed. I probably just missed the option in the man page... or I don't know which program to man.
