General :: USB Touchscreen On IBM Thin Client 2200?
Jan 6, 2010After switching over to linux on my desktop PC (ubuntu) I would like te learn more about linux.I'm trying to get an ELO touchscreen working on an IBM thin client. At the moment I managed to boot it from a CF card.(normally it boots kernel.2200 from a host PC but to avoid interference with the operating system, a flight simulator, I want to try it first with the system booted from a flash card)
I tried to install the 32 bit Linux driver from the ELO-website but did not succeed.I was following the manual.I managed to extract the files and copied them to the right directory but when I type in "make" the command is not recognised. I don't know if it would ever work, but when I tried "make" on my Ubuntu machine I get error #2?! What does that mean.

Feb 25, 2010I just finished setting up a new computer lab at my kids school, using LTSP and 22 think clients connecting to Ubuntu.Everything is going beautifully, and I'm using static IPs and autologin so that when each computer is turned on it logs itself in with no userintervention. The problem is, when users go to the top right system menu and select "Shut Down", they are brought out to the login screen for a second and then immediately logged back in automatically to the Desktop. How should I be shutting down the thin clients?he only way to do it at the moment is to have everyone hold the power button down until the CPU shuts off, but it feels sloppy and unhealthy.

Oct 8, 2010is there anyone knows how to setup and configure thin client in edubuntu 10.04?. From the beginning installation until thin client work.we have 2 set of computers. 1 computer installed edubuntu 10.04 and installed LTSP (Linux Terminal Server Project) in the OS without NIC Card. And the other computers has only NIC card.. We setup it in the bios as a "First Boot" Network Card. We connect 2 computers using "pair-to-pair connection". There and after, we restart the 2 computers. "Nothings Happened".

Jul 22, 2011I am trying to install and configure LTSP on a server for a HP thin client to boot off. The version of Ubuntu that I am using is 11.04 x86 and it is a fresh install on a dual core system with 2GB RAM. I followed a guide which comprised of these commands.
sudo apt-get install ltsp-server-standalone openssh-server sudo ltsp-build-client or if your on a 64-bit system with 32-bit machines do sudo ltsp-build-client arch i386 for editing the servers IP values use /etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf after that you need to restart DHCP server sudo /etc/init.d/dhcp3-server restart
and update sshkeys -sudo ltsp-update-sshkeys and if you updated dhcpd.conf then you need to update you image also by typing in terminal ltsp-update-image
Everything seemed to install as it should but when I try to boot from the thin client it just times out and says no DHCP or proxy invites received. I turned DHCP off on the router and even tried another router, but I still get nothing. I am at a bit of a loose end and I hope someone on here can point me in the right direction of where I am going wrong.
General :: Ubuntu Working On Thin Client Cannot Provide Accurate Disk Space Reports?
Jul 26, 2011We are using thin client systems in our work environment. There is a central ubuntu server and by using thin clients, we are connecting to our homes. The problem is when I try to install an application, it reported me that I had 200 mb of disk space. But when i try to look from console, I see that /home folder has over 250 gb s of disk space. Even when I try to look from baobab, Disk Usage Analyzer in Ubuntu, i see that my home file system is full.
So what's the reason that I am receiving different kinds of disk space report from different sources? Our system admin here told me that some applications foolishly try to see the physical devices on the thin client and got confused as a result. Is this true?

Jul 25, 2011I am running Lucid Lynx 10.04.3. Sometimes when I boot the computer, my desktop icons are not there. I ended up looking for a solution, and found one:
1. Hit Alt-F2 and run gconf-editor
2. Go to apps/nautilus/preferences and check 'show_desktop'
However, show desktop was already checked. If I unchecked it, and then checked it again, the desktop icons appeared. Weird, but problem solved right? Wrong.
Sometimes when I boot, the desktop icons are gone again. This doesn't happen at every single boot though. When they are gone again though, I just have to go through the process again. Here's where it gets worse.
Also, sometimes at boot, both the top and bottom taskbars/system trays are completely gone, leaving just the desktop. Once again, this doesn't happen at every single boot. I can't really do anything, so I just reboot again and more often then not, things are back to normal. Or the trays are back, but the desktop icons are gone again.
The weird thing about this is it doesn't happen every time I boot the computer. So if there is a problem I just restart and things are usually fine again. However this is very frustrating, and NOT normal.
Also, because the default drivers for my NVIDIA GeForce MX4000 were not sufficient, I had to remove the Nouveau drivers and install nvidia-glx-96, which corresponds to the official NVIDIA Linux driver version 96.43.17. This is the latest driver version listed for my card on the NVIDIA website. I also had to downgrade from 11.04 because apparently the old drivers are not compatible with the new X Server version in 11.04. I don't know if this has anything to do with it or not. I'm wondering if maybe i should just get a newer card so I don't have to deal with the older drivers.

I use the bios to dual boot between two disks, (1) this op sys and (2)win98se - where I have a driver that fully supports the nvidia.
The disadvantage to my current situation is that there are some programs - eg Evolution - that assume I can see more than you see with this setup - eg the buttons at the bottom of the screen do not appear and i have to do a trial and error tabbing to get what i want. I just downloaded openoffice and i see that it wants 1000x2000 or so. Thus I wont even try to install it unless i can resolve the adapter thing.
I'm very happy with this fedora - use it for software development. But as I become more fond of it, I would like to use it instead of windows - which I can't unless i can see the whole screen
At one point - in response to a suggestion that I download security updates - I did so and got 2.6.32.12-115.fc12.i686. It was incompatible with my config - put up a screen that looked like a tv test pattern and went into a loop. So I went back to 2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686.

Aug 14, 2009I'm trying to connect to a Win XP computer via Remote Desktop/Terminal Server. (Note: WinXP refers to Remote Desktop, or RDP; Ubuntu uses Terminal Server client for this function.)
The problem is that my XP computer requires the use of Microsoft's RDP version 6 because it uses a Terminal Server Gateway. The TS client in Ubuntu is compatible with version 5, not version 6.
Is there a MS RDP version 6 compatible program/client for Linux?
