View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an ubuntu 7.10 ICS server that works fine and I have routed my traffic using firestarter to my windows PC. my server's IP is 192.168.0.1 and my windows client is 192.168.0.2. now, I have bought another PC and I want to assign 192.168.0.3 to it and connect it to ubuntu server. in windows, all I needed to do was to connect the first client to first network card, second one to second network card, bridge two connections in my server, assign 192.168.0.1 to the network bridge in my server and 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.3 to my clients, then share my internet connection. I also could access shared files in any computer from all of them. can I have the same functionality with a linux server?
I'll make a list to make it easy if you don't wanna read the whole post:
things I want:
1. assign one ip address to multiple interfaces in linux, making them bonded.
2. sharing the internet connection with both clients.
3. ability to use all shared files over a network.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install and configure LTSP on a server for a HP thin client to boot off. The version of Ubuntu that I am using is 11.04 x86 and it is a fresh install on a dual core system with 2GB RAM. I followed a guide which comprised of these commands.
sudo apt-get install ltsp-server-standalone openssh-server sudo ltsp-build-client or if your on a 64-bit system with 32-bit machines do sudo ltsp-build-client arch i386 for editing the servers IP values use /etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf after that you need to restart DHCP server sudo /etc/init.d/dhcp3-server restart
and update sshkeys -sudo ltsp-update-sshkeys and if you updated dhcpd.conf then you need to update you image also by typing in terminal ltsp-update-image
Everything seemed to install as it should but when I try to boot from the thin client it just times out and says no DHCP or proxy invites received. I turned DHCP off on the router and even tried another router, but I still get nothing. I am at a bit of a loose end and I hope someone on here can point me in the right direction of where I am going wrong.
Im using WPA with a TKIP pre-shared key...Can a client pc im sharing my key with access my files if im not file sharing? Router config?
View 2 Replies View Relatedi'm trying to rig up my machine as a household server, i had it sharing internet to my other computers via a wifi router. (machine is a desktop and i have no wifi cards for it)then i installed java, squid and SAMBA. since then the other machines can't detect internet. java is screwy.i've updated it and it reduces the screen scramble.but squid is what has me.it seems to stop ubuntu telling my windows machines (win 7, and win xp) that there is internet available.intrestingly i can play multiplayer games on the windows machines with a ip address.(ip address of a mate. connected and ran ok.)

2. turn mobile broadband off for 5-10 secs, re-enable, then connect to a mobile broadband called DODO automatically when internet drops out (a script perhaps?)

What we would like is slightly like BT Fon or BT Open Zone in the UK: you can hook on a free network but in order to access outside (internet: email, web, ftp, etc) you need to login login would help us monitor fair usage. I imagine something with username and password for each user would do: as we are a few in the same building not everyone is actually paying for the connection and we don't want to end up with rather large excess bills. So the ones who are paying access both files and internet; those who dont just have access to the files on the local server.
Do i need Ubuntu server to set this up? What hardware would be ideal - given we are all far from rich but willing to have a nice setup
It would be great if you could share some knowledge around the topic and eventually provide some tutorial; also any heads-up on the hardware side would be great! (signal booster, etc - there's 3 floors and 3 buildings)
How do I tell the shared connection that it has a static IP and that I dont want a DHCP on the network?Do I have to set up DHCP on the box with the shared connection, even if that box only runs DHCP for a single IP address being the eth0 that is shared?Or can I tell the shared connection that it has a static IP and still allow network manager to run the shared connection?Or should I specify static IP's for all clients and the shared network manager and install say firestarter on the gateway to run the NAT for the eth0 out to eth1.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just finished setting up a new computer lab at my kids school, using LTSP and 22 think clients connecting to Ubuntu.Everything is going beautifully, and I'm using static IPs and autologin so that when each computer is turned on it logs itself in with no userintervention. The problem is, when users go to the top right system menu and select "Shut Down", they are brought out to the login screen for a second and then immediately logged back in automatically to the Desktop. How should I be shutting down the thin clients?he only way to do it at the moment is to have everyone hold the power button down until the CPU shuts off, but it feels sloppy and unhealthy.

is there anyone knows how to setup and configure thin client in edubuntu 10.04?. From the beginning installation until thin client work.we have 2 set of computers. 1 computer installed edubuntu 10.04 and installed LTSP (Linux Terminal Server Project) in the OS without NIC Card. And the other computers has only NIC card.. We setup it in the bios as a "First Boot" Network Card. We connect 2 computers using "pair-to-pair connection". There and after, we restart the 2 computers. "Nothings Happened".

At the moment I managed to boot it from a CF card.(normally it boots kernel.2200 from a host PC but to avoid interference with the operating system, a flight simulator, I want to try it first with the system booted from a flash card)
I tried to install the 32 bit Linux driver from the ELO-website but did not succeed.I was following the manual.I managed to extract the files and copied them to the right directory but when I type in "make" the command is not recognised. I don't know if it would ever work, but when I tried "make" on my Ubuntu machine I get error #2?! What does that mean.
I'm looking for a Micro Distro based on Debian, to install it on a bootable USB stick and to use it as a Thin Client.

I'm trying to set up a wireless AP with Internet sharing. I currently have the AP setup with hostapd and a dhcp server. The clients can connect but there is not Internet sharing. Now my situation is somewhat uniqe in that my internet connection is my teathered android cell phone. The tether app is azilink and i use openvpn to create a virtual networking interface(tun0).
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy 32-bit Ubuntu 9.10 [Karmic Koala] LTSP server has two NICs, one with Dynamic IP set by a DSL modem and the other with static IP of 192.168.0.254. I also have 4 thin Clients that boot from this server without any problems and another computer with Ubuntu 9.04 running some PHP programs with dynamic IP given by the same DSL modem. When I send requests to these PHP programs from thin clients, they all give the LTSP server's dynamic IP as their IP so I cannot trace who has sent this request to response back.
I actually know this is logical. Because the requests are sent by a program that's actually running on the LTSP server rather than the thin client. But my question is How can I run a program on a thin client with it's own IP? I also should mention that the dhcp3-server service running on the LTSP server has no conflicts with the DSL dhcp on the network and I know that the 4 thin clients get the IPs ranging from 192.168.1.101 through 192.168.1.104 from the dhcp3-server service. Because I can ping them while they're on. but /sbin/ifconfig on them shows info about the LTSP server.
Does anyone know if hp thin client linux version supports desktop icons?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe are using thin client systems in our work environment. There is a central ubuntu server and by using thin clients, we are connecting to our homes. The problem is when I try to install an application, it reported me that I had 200 mb of disk space. But when i try to look from console, I see that /home folder has over 250 gb s of disk space. Even when I try to look from baobab, Disk Usage Analyzer in Ubuntu, i see that my home file system is full.
So what's the reason that I am receiving different kinds of disk space report from different sources? Our system admin here told me that some applications foolishly try to see the physical devices on the thin client and got confused as a result. Is this true?
I have a non-profit company. Currently we are using Dropbox to store and share files. We have the free 2 gig account and we are quickly running out of space. Naturally, we don't have a lot of money so I'm looking for a cheap alternative. I thought I might be able to set up a linux server in my home (with a back-up drive) do to the same thing. I want my board members and staff to be able to access these files from their homes or jobs and to be able to manipulate the files on the server. I'd like to be able to control access levels so that I can limit access to certain files and folders. I have a tech background but none of the others do so FTP is not really an option. It needs to be as simple as if they were looking at a file on their pc. Is this possible or am I totally dreaming here?
Right now I'm using Ubuntu but I just downloaded Fedora 15 and plan to play around with that a bit. The pc's I have are P4 2.6 with 1G RAM.

Is it possible to make a terminal server and "thin client" connect through the internet and not just LAN?The reason I quote thin client is because in my mind I am still going to need to use some HDD so I can connect to the internet and find my server.

I have a laptop running Windows XP with a secure wireless internet connection. I want to share this connection to my desktop running Ubuntu 9.10 via an direct ethernet cable connection. So far in Windows I checked the "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection" in the Wireless Network Connection Properties menu.
