General :: IRC Client Supports With VI Key Binds?
Feb 9, 2011
Is there any IRC client that supports VI keys? The ''obvious'' script VimIRC is and has been broken for so long it's not even funny. Do you know any IRC clients on Linux, GUI or Curses, that provides some of that nice vi usability? Or could some of the existing clients be scripted to use? Irssi, XChat, even ERC would do?

I basically want to download a the differnet parts of a file using several interfaces and then want to combine them.
Something like:-
Code:
But, the problem is that I am on a faulty conenction so the connection breaks frequently. And I cannot resume using CURL.
So, I need an alternative download manager..I have tried looking at wget but it doesnt support binding to interface or either option to specify range of file to download..

I've looked all over the net (believe me, EVERYWHERE), and I can't find anything. I sort of need a program that supports webcam so I can communicate with my family when I leave town in a few weeks. I've tried aMSN, emsense, Pidgin (webcam hasn't worked in that program for ages, heh), empathy (just audio works), skype, ekiga, and so on.

I am looking for a PHP based IMPA client with these requirements:
- User accounts (not same as imap email accounts)
- Each user can add multiple IMAP emails to his account and check/use them.
Is there any solution for my requirements. I checked Squirrelmail and roundcube but I am not sure they can do this.
Otherwise I will need to either develop a system from scratch or modify an existing one to do my job. I hesitate to develop myself as it will take months if not years to make it stable and bug free.

On my 10.04 LTS Ubuntu Server installation, apache2 doesn't bind to ipv4. It does bind to ipv6. I didn't notice this at first, because from my home connection I could visit the webpages without trouble. I noticed it running netstats -ta:
Code:
tcp 0 0 localhost:10024 *:* LISTEN
tcp 0 0 localhost:10025 *:* LISTEN
tcp 0 0 localhost:mysql *:* LISTEN
tcp 0 0 localhost:spamd *:* LISTEN

I need files to be <= 5GB to put on S3. Right now I have an ugly tar / gzip / cut before upload, then cat / zcat / tar on download, but it's really ugly - and nearly every archiver should support archive splitting right? What's the best way?

I would like to replace gvim with vim in the terminal. One of the nice things about gvim is that it is able to display text using italics.
Vim allows setting an ANSI escape code for italics (e[3m), but this does not work in gnome-terminal. Is there a terminal emulator that supports the ANSI escape code for italics?

I am looking for a locally hosted web based mail client that will work on Windows (Vista and up) as well as Linux. Right now, I use mutt (Cygwin mutt on Windows), but I was wondering if there was a simple web based client I could use. It does not need all of the fancy features of mutt, just the ability to send mail and allow me to browse my local mbox files.

Situation- Laptop (2003 made Toshiba 2410) with dead secondary controller, so no CDDVD drive, BIOS does not support any form of booting from USB. Laptop has working floppy (had to repair it) distros that are good for older units like that that also support booting from diskettes, and then can mount and install from a USB CDDVD rom drive.

My question concerns NCMPCPP ( the frontend music player ). I installed, configured NCMPCPP a while ago and it worked like a charm.
But yesterday some colours just changed back to the default for some reason. From : Code: http: (double slash) img37 (dot) imageshack (dot) us/img37/1865/firstss.jpg To : Code: http: (double slash) i45 (dot) tinypic (dot) com/24nij34.jpg Going into the preferences of the terminal : Code: http: ( double slash )i46 (dot) tinypic (dot) com/2j26q9z.jpg As you can see, it is using the default colour yellow. I created another profile already, changing those two colours to black and grey, but I don't think this is a good solution.
I checked the error.log file : Code: TagLib: ID3v2.4 no longer supports the frame type TDAT. It will be discarded from the tag. I'm guessing it has something to do with that.

I am running fedora Fedora 2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686 - works fine, but it puts my display adapter in old fashoned simple vga mode.
DISTRIBTION
Fedora 2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686
Mysql 5.1.47
Apache 2.2.15
CONFIGURATION
1.25 ghz AMD athlon
NVIDIA RIVA TNT display adapter
ECS K7S5a board / chipset
AMD BIOS 07.00T
512 mb main mem
128 kb primary cache
256 2ndary cache
66 mhz bus clock
I use the bios to dual boot between two disks, (1) this op sys and (2)win98se - where I have a driver that fully supports the nvidia.
The disadvantage to my current situation is that there are some programs - eg Evolution - that assume I can see more than you see with this setup - eg the buttons at the bottom of the screen do not appear and i have to do a trial and error tabbing to get what i want. I just downloaded openoffice and i see that it wants 1000x2000 or so. Thus I wont even try to install it unless i can resolve the adapter thing.
I'm very happy with this fedora - use it for software development. But as I become more fond of it, I would like to use it instead of windows - which I can't unless i can see the whole screen
At one point - in response to a suggestion that I download security updates - I did so and got 2.6.32.12-115.fc12.i686. It was incompatible with my config - put up a screen that looked like a tv test pattern and went into a loop. So I went back to 2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686.

Google suggests that the latter, Mac software running on Linux, isn't possible. However, it also returns results that haven't changed for some time, which is why I'd like to know if anything has changed since then. Namely, Safari. Despite only having used an actual Mac once, I like Safari, and so far have the Windows version working fine under Wine. However, one of the things stopping me using it more is add-ons. In Firefox, I use Xmarks. Xmarks supports Safari - on a Mac. To my knowledge, this is no Windows Safari version. So, if I can't run it on the Windows version for now, what I want to do is run the Mac one instead, and use it there, if possible. I suspect neither is actually possible, at least for now. But it's always nice to have confirmation.

trying to create a "local network" by directly connecting an IBM Thinkpad with Debian Linux installed on it to an Alix computer running Voyager Linux. I'm following a "how to" I found to create a music server, hence the requirement. My issue is I can't get a static IP address to be configured on the Debian machine.I've trawled the net and have found the instructions about editing the /etc/network/interfaces and have tried to do this. First I tried to get DHCP working so I could connect the Debian machine to the net and this proved successful. I edited the interfaces file to look as follows:
# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
Then I tried adding a static IP address to the machine. As this is a network purely between two machines I made up the IP addres and used 192.168.0.1 and used a NetMask calculator to give me a NetMask of 255.255.255.254 (I told the calculator there would be 2 machines on the network). I then edited the interfaces file as follows:
# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
[code]....
I re-booted the machine (ifdown eth0 followed by ifup eth0 keeps saying that eth0 hasn't been configured - a problem there that I don't understand), but during boot up time it failed to assign the Static IP address to eth0 and made me go into SU mode. To fix it I simply replaced the interface file with the static IP inputs with the file that had the DHCP entries (I'd made a copy of the DHCP file), and re-started the machine. Everthing came up fine. So the first question is how do I get a static IP address to be assigned to eth0 such that whenever I shut down and restart the machine the static IP address is always loaded?
The second question is around creating the network via the cross over cable. From what I've found via Google, all I should have to do is create a static IP address on the Debian machine and a static IP address on the Voyager machine. Once they're connected by the cross over cable they should see each other. Is that correct, or do I have to do anything else?
