Software :: Can't Close/kill/stop Instance Of Nautilus File Browser
Jun 9, 2010
I'm running
Opensuse 11.2
Kernel Linux 2.6.31.12-0.2-desktop
GNOME 2.28.2
I have an instance of Nautilus File Browser that will not close or be killed, and it always opens to the same directory, kdenlive in my home directory. I'm a newbie and have already googled. Rebooting, logging out and in as someone else, then logging back in again as myself doesn't stop it. And, I'm afraid to uninstall Nautilus. I've tried Re-installing it to no avail.

I've some file with .sh extensions that runs some softwares. Now,how do I stop running that filesI know we run the command ./start_tomcat.sh to start the apache. Is there any command to stop that file/process or is it just kill the process to stop the process
I'm using rhel6. Using File Browser Nautilus 2.28.4 I could easily locate any file I'm interested in by it name. I'd like to use this File Browser to locate the file name based on it content e.g. based on some word in the text file. It doesn't work for me that way ... My question: does Nautilus support the search of file based on it content or only based on the name of the file itself?
Is there an alternative to Nautilus file browser? I mean a file browser which offers out of-the-box (!) more features and where I don't have to install such add-ons like nautilus-actions separately and defined some commands which should obviously be built-in.
I am using fedora 11, I am facing a problem while accessing windows share through nautilus.. Initially while accessing the windows share through nautilus, I clicked on remember password. Now I need to access the same windows share with another username having different access previliges on the share. But when I click on the shared folder it takes the password that I have previously saved. Its not prompting for new username and password.
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 x86_64 and have a problem that the file browser does not refresh automatically. This is what I notice. open a file browsercreate a folder or touch a new file from a terminal window. In the already opened file browser, I expect the new file or folder to show up on its own. It doesn't unless refresh button is pressed
In the kde realm, with the dolphin file browser, I can open a terminal in whatever folder is in the gui by using the shift and f4 keys. I'd like to be able to accomplish the same in gnome with the nautilus file browser but can't figure out how to do same. So far I have to open a terminal and then cd to the desired folder. Or do I have to use some other file browser and which one?
How do i type in an address into Nautilus (default file-browser in Gnome DE)? By default it shows me the folders as buttons instead of a typable url-type space, how do i change it to a white space i can key-into?
In the left pane of Nautilus File Browser, I can only display directory and file names. I don't have the button at the top of the pane which allows me to select an alternate view such as Tree view.
So, this may have something to do specifically with conky, but I don't understand how sometimes when I run 'conky' from the terminal and then once it loads I close the terminal, it kills conky. But other times, I do the same thing, wait for it to load, and it just keeps running! In both cases, I don't get a "user@computer~:$" prompt back after running 'conky' either. That happens sometimes with other things like gedit too..
The buttons to minimize and close, in the upper right-hand corner, have disappeared, making it impossible to close my browser and shut down my computer.I don't know what to do.
Since I installed Maverick, I've had trouble with Chrome and Firefox tabs. When I click a link, sometimes (50-60% of the time) the link opens in a new tab. When I click on tabs, again 50-60% of the time, they close. It's been happening since I installed Maverick, and there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to when I get a new tab or a tab closes. I have a Compaq Presario V6000 running 64bit Maverick with an Nvidia card.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.10. I recently installed the open ssh server so that can sftp stuff. However, I do not want the server to always be on, only when I manually start So, I did an 'update-rc.d -f ssh remove'and now I don't see any startup scripts in the rcx.d directories any more. However, when I do a 'ps ax', there is always a '/usr/sbin/sshd' process running. I try to kill it but it keeps restarting under a different process ID.How do I disable sshd?
I have done a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.04. My problem is that at the login screen if I close my laptop lid, the laptop goes into suspend. This is not the effect I want. GDM doesn't respect my settings in gnome-power-preferences and I can't seem to locate any other way to configure the power preferences for GDM. I have had 11.04 installed before as an upgrade to 10.10 and I did not have this problem in that case.
i saw a thread on here regarding this same topic a few months back but i can't seem to find it now. my problem is that in firefox, the bar at the top of the window with the minimize/maximize and close buttons is gone... i don't know how this changed, must have hit something by mistake..
I run my desktop the old fashioned way, lots of icons on it, I think its what you would call under KDE: Folder view. (right click desktop, settings, appearance, type: Folder view)
1- first thing I noticed was that you now have the + and - signs when you hover or select icons, I understand what they mean to do but to be honest I can do that perfectly well using ctrl + mouse click, so is there a way to not show the + and - sign.
2- with 11.2 and KDE 4.3.5 if I held my mouse over a folder on my desktop I would see its content in a panel. If I for exampled placed an image on the desktop the icon would be a small version of the image. In KDE 4.5 I no longer have these effect. In Desktop settings - Plasma Workspace under Display the Previews is checked and under More Preview Options I selected the whole lot. But nope it not longer will do a preview, am I missing something here ?
3- sometimes, but hard to reproduce, when closing for example Dolphin, it wont close right away, mouse will stop moving for about 1-1.5sec and then Dolphin will close. Not sure where to look for that. I won't mind entering a bug report at KDE but rather not do it if I simply missing something in the configurations.
i have a habit of frequently changing my desktop themes in gnome desktop. off late i found that whenever i close the appearance settings window, the process diesnt seem to stop and it becomes a runaway process, increasing fan speed in my laptop and ofcourse the temp that shoots beyond 70, every time i change the theme i have to issue top command in terminal, identify the gnome-appearance process id and kill it. the instant i kill it, temp drops down to 32 / 32....
I just moved to Fedora 11 from Ubuntu and I am very happy, not even thinking to go back to Ubuntu (because of gma500 driver support). How can I clean up Fedora? On Ubuntu I could go to Synaptics, remove Installed (not residetial) packages, I coud use terminal sudo autoremove, autoclean, clean. On Fedora I found out only one so far: yum clean all. Is there anything else I should now, can you share with me how you are cleaning up your Fedora? Second thing, which is not only related to Fedora, is there any chance to make Epiphany remeber tabs after I close the browser and open it again? Don't really want to use any other browser.
I have KDE 4.4 and Firefox 3.6. Whenever I click a link from a plasmoid widget, it tries to open Konqueror and another instance of Firefox. The page actually loads in the opened Firefox window, but the task bar shows an instance of Konqueror and another instance of Firefox, that keeps loading for a while then close. See image below:
I currently have setup the browser default application as "firefox". If I set this option to use the default application, it opens in Konqueror and I don't see additional windows in the task bar. If I change the option to "firefox %u", then it exhibit the same issue, but the process is much faster, so the loading windows don't stay for long in the task bar. Additionally, it opens the link on a new Firefox window and opens the page twice. Although Konqueror is not loaded, the bouncing icon next to the mouse pointer shows up and stay for a while.
I have another opera browser problem,i upgraded to version 10.53 build 6330 last week. it keeps crashing the cpu goes to 100% and wont come down, i had this problem with the previous version but its a lot worse with the new version. also noticed that when browsing ebay the scroll is very jerky until you get about a third of the way down the page then it scrolls ok again. i get the feeling the crashes are something to do with the flash player. i tried to uninstall flash but i cannot get it to uninstall .
I need to stop the viewing of robots.txt on my website. I get the contents of the file displayed in my browser when I issue the command: [URL] stop this as it displays all the directories I don't want them to go to. I am right at the level of Linux knowledge to be dangerous, capable but still dangerous.
