View 2 RepliesI'm running
Opensuse 11.2
Kernel Linux 2.6.31.12-0.2-desktop
GNOME 2.28.2
I have an instance of Nautilus File Browser that will not close or be killed, and it always opens to the same directory, kdenlive in my home directory.
Rebooting, logging out and in as someone else, then logging back in again as myself doesn't stop it. And, I'm afraid to uninstall Nautilus. I've tried Re-installing it to no avail.

View 9 Replies View RelatedSince I installed Maverick, I've had trouble with Chrome and Firefox tabs. When I click a link, sometimes (50-60% of the time) the link opens in a new tab. When I click on tabs, again 50-60% of the time, they close. It's been happening since I installed Maverick, and there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to when I get a new tab or a tab closes. I have a Compaq Presario V6000 running 64bit Maverick with an Nvidia card.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi saw a thread on here regarding this same topic a few months back but i can't seem to find it now. my problem is that in firefox, the bar at the top of the window with the minimize/maximize and close buttons is gone... i don't know how this changed, must have hit something by mistake..

View 7 Replies View RelatedI just moved to Fedora 11 from Ubuntu and I am very happy, not even thinking to go back to Ubuntu (because of gma500 driver support). How can I clean up Fedora? On Ubuntu I could go to Synaptics, remove Installed (not residetial) packages, I coud use terminal sudo autoremove, autoclean, clean. On Fedora I found out only one so far: yum clean all. Is there anything else I should now, can you share with me how you are cleaning up your Fedora? Second thing, which is not only related to Fedora, is there any chance to make Epiphany remeber tabs after I close the browser and open it again? Don't really want to use any other browser.

View 7 Replies View RelatedSo, this may have something to do specifically with conky, but I don't understand how sometimes when I run 'conky' from the terminal and then once it loads I close the terminal, it kills conky. But other times, I do the same thing, wait for it to load, and it just keeps running! In both cases, I don't get a "user@computer~:$" prompt back after running 'conky' either. That happens sometimes with other things like gedit too..

First, the network manager would show up on my girlfriend's profile (hers was the first one we created) but it won't show up on mine and it would not detect any internet connections. I found another thread that told me to type "nm-applet &" into the terminal, which works great. It shows the network manager and auto connects. But as soon as I close the terminal, it auto disconnects. Anyone know why and what I can do to make the network manager icon stay besides keeping the terminal open?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to 11.04When I create environment variables such as:export FG_SCENERY=/home/justin/.fgfs/scenery:/home/justin/FG_SCENERYThey remain until I close terminal. These custom variables appear under printenv unless I close terminal. Programs act like these variables do not exist if I have closed terminal, but are able to use them if I haven't.

The following is my virtualbox ubuntu config. Virtualbox is the latest version.
Ubuntu 11.04
Base Memory 2G
Video Memory 64MB

The problem only happens after I close terminal. The individual program or software works fine. But as long as I use terminal, and close it, then the desktop environment freeze.
Is there anyone encountering the same problem, and how can I resolve it ?
I'm running Fedora 14 but thought terminal commands are much the same through all linux OS's. I open a terminal, I type...
[mitch@mitch /]$ cd /media
[mitch@mitch media]$ ls
3c403cc9-9f0c-4035-9148-6242daf8da84 My Book
[mitch@mitch media]$ cd /media/My Book
bash: cd: /media/My: No such file or directory
[mitch@mitch media]$
So i open Partition Manager cause i remember there been another directory to it under "/dev/sdc1", Sure enough it was, So i enter.
[mitch@mitch /]$ cd /dev/sdc1
bash: cd: /dev/sdc1: Not a directory
[mitch@mitch /]$
What am i doing, Is The link between the linux file system and the external not seen as a directory so to speak if that makes any sense? There's no particular reason i NEED to do this, It's justb bugging me that i can't get into it.
How do I stop a user, from gaining access to the internet(port) via a restricted browser? In other words, I want a general user to only to have access to Firefox and no other browsers.
My first approach so far, has been to write a bash shell script. It terminates a program based on keywords from known browsers (opera, asus, ect).
Just wondering if anyone knew of a really good text based terminal browser to use when I am not running X. I can use Links and do not have too much trouble navigating, but I have not been able to set the screen to view the entire page (I have to move off screen to read the whole page.) So, if anyone knows an easier text browser that is a little easier to set the screen options with code...

I'm going away for the weekend and will only be able to bring my laptop that has the latest release of Ubuntu on it. My question is: will i be able to access my company's Terminal Server site [URL] from browser in Linux, and be able to launch the applications? (Outlook, etc.) Seems to connect to Windows Server 2008. If this works in Linux, that would make my life a lot easier..
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just love Linux! I am using Fedora 14 and just starting out. I am curious as to why is that when I click the Firefox icon to launch the internet from the menu bar a Linux terminal window has to be open. If I close that particular terminal, (which by the way says "Terminal" and does not show my chosen host name) Firefox closes. If I go to Applications, then Internet, then Firefox to launch the browser, the terminal doesn't open.

I tried this in Linux with xcopy but when I switch to the browser it just overwrites the clipboard with with whatever was in it the last time the browser was used. What works like pbcopy in Linux?
