Rebooting, logging out and in as someone else, then logging back in again as myself doesn't stop it. And, I'm afraid to uninstall Nautilus. I've tried Re-installing it to no avail.

I have an instance of Nautilus File Browser that will not close or be killed, and it always opens to the same directory, kdenlive in my home directory. I'm a newbie and have already googled. I have KDE 4.4 and Firefox 3.6. Whenever I click a link from a plasmoid widget, it tries to open Konqueror and another instance of Firefox. The page actually loads in the opened Firefox window, but the task bar shows an instance of Konqueror and another instance of Firefox, that keeps loading for a while then close. See image below:
I currently have setup the browser default application as "firefox". If I set this option to use the default application, it opens in Konqueror and I don't see additional windows in the task bar. If I change the option to "firefox %u", then it exhibit the same issue, but the process is much faster, so the loading windows don't stay for long in the task bar. Additionally, it opens the link on a new Firefox window and opens the page twice. Although Konqueror is not loaded, the bouncing icon next to the mouse pointer shows up and stay for a while.
i glad i switched, but still have lots to learn. Any who, currently i am working on a server for some residents at my current job. I have DNS and everything setup right and it is working. Samba on the other hand is configured right but it keeps shutting down after about a minute. When i run this command:
chksmb status
it says "Dead". Ill restart the service(rcsmb start), and keep checking the status, and after about a minute it shuts down again. I have done a restart, double checked my configurations and still cant find why this is happening. (config file somewhere?)
Is there any way to make Dragon Player so there is just one running instance of it at a time? Like if i have something playing and i click on something else to play have it so that the instance currently running changes to the new file instead of opening a new window?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen a new instance of a running KDE 4 application (kwrite, konqueror, etc.) is run under opensuse 11.4 with KDE4 it seems that the default behaviour is to open a new tab in the running instance.
This occurs when the new instance is called from the command line; the start menu; the run dialogue; or a desktop icon, even when called from a separate desktop. In konqueror the menu option <File> <new window> opens a new tab and seems redundant.
How can a user force KDE 4 applications to run a new instance in a separate frame / window when another instance of that application is already running?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have never been able to see the splash screen, something that I'd like. I have checked the options on the bootloader and it says "splash=silent" (that's disabled?). I found it confusing, because the ubuntu kernel boots with "splash" but when I try that option on OpenSuSE 11.2 it doesn't.Also when I shut down the laptop the screen goes crazy, only the two top cms shows "something" which are blinking and crazy green and white console words moving from one place to another so fast I can't even been able to read what it actually says.Either way, the laptop shuts down without any problem (?). I think is the normal shutdown process (without splash) but it's a bit perturbing. I've had had a couple of kind of "aesthetics" issues, but far from critical. My overall experience with OpenSuSE after 4 or 5 years being "debianized" have been very nice .
View 3 Replies View Related'm running openSUSE 11.2 with KDE 4.4.2.
Since i installed KDE 4.* Whenever I go to shutdown, I get the shutdown dialogue, I hit shutdown, it logs me off, shows some text on shutdown screen, and then opens up the GUI again, bringing up a small window, where It asks for the root password, in order to shutdown. If i don't give it the root password, it goes to the login screen.
I cannot, any way, command line, GUI, or anything, shutdown without providing a root password.
If I use the command shutdown now, as root, it logs me off and goes through an endless cycle of logging off, and then asking for root to shut down, and not shutting down (All on the CLI), and everytime i give it the password, it cancels shutdown and goes back to the prompt. I eventually have to pull the battery to kill it in that case..
I have tried chmoding the shutdown scripts to make it work, it doesn't.
I'm trying to create a Linux instance on a Windows 7 PC and use dual-boot. I have created 64GB of space for Linux. Is this enough? When I boot from the live DVD and go through the setup, I get stuck setting up the unassigned space as a linux partition. I don't understand what the setup is trying to tell me and I'm afraid I'll wipe out Windows 7. The message I get says there isn't enough space even though the unassigned available area is 64GB. I am very timid about following what Yast2 is telling me because to my untrained eye it appears the setup wants to use my entire hard drive. Where can I find more information about the disk setup section of the installation process?
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis is a follow-on to "samba write failure crashes linux". It has the dmesg output when the write failure occurs. The remote server is os/2 v4.50 fp3.The failure occurred in this instance attempting to write a file from the localhost to a samba-mounted resource on a remote host. The failure always happens when at least 3 MB have been transferred. Smaller files are not a problem.
Other cases:
1. Saving any email (thunderbird) attachments to the localhost,
2. Downloading anything to the localhost using Firefox.
The most notable aspect are the phrases "kernel BUG" and "invalid opcode".

I cannot log into the normal user account after shutting down the OPENSUSE 11.1 system by cutting off electricity. The system always returns to the login page which requires to choose account id and enter passwd even when I type in correct normal user id and passwd. The root account can be used.

Now without the monitor, the video fan is very noisy. When I click on the nvidia X Server settings button I get this message :"You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server."It seems that the driver does not load because it does not found any monitor.

I don't see any similar posts, is Cox just not letting them finish or am I missing some change that allowed me to complete them before & not now?

Still, it tries to apply the k3b update from the suse repo. I went to the updater in yast and told it to NEVER install the update, and also tried locking it (protected) and again, after a reboot, it checks for updates, and tries to replace my k3b. Then finally, the version in packman is NEWER than the one in the suse update repo
