View 6 Replies View RelatedSince I installed Maverick, I've had trouble with Chrome and Firefox tabs. When I click a link, sometimes (50-60% of the time) the link opens in a new tab. When I click on tabs, again 50-60% of the time, they close. It's been happening since I installed Maverick, and there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to when I get a new tab or a tab closes. I have a Compaq Presario V6000 running 64bit Maverick with an Nvidia card.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just moved to Fedora 11 from Ubuntu and I am very happy, not even thinking to go back to Ubuntu (because of gma500 driver support). How can I clean up Fedora? On Ubuntu I could go to Synaptics, remove Installed (not residetial) packages, I coud use terminal sudo autoremove, autoclean, clean. On Fedora I found out only one so far: yum clean all. Is there anything else I should now, can you share with me how you are cleaning up your Fedora? Second thing, which is not only related to Fedora, is there any chance to make Epiphany remeber tabs after I close the browser and open it again? Don't really want to use any other browser.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSince I still want to do all my programming on Win32 platform, VirtualBox should be fine there, but would VirtualBox be able to manage games ( BF2, CSS )?If so then well I'm going to Ubuntu permenatly, if not, I'll just Dual boot between Windows & Ubuntu, Ubuntu for everything ( VirtualBox for programming ), and Windows os for Gaming.
My only problem there, is having to restart every time I want to play a game, that's why I was hoping VirtualBox could manage, wouldn't have to be any, fancy resolution. Also, with Firefox on linux, is it possible to use Ctrl- ( 1, 2, 3, etc... ) to switch tabs, on windows this is possible, and an a feature I love.
I was having a problem with the tabs in Firefox 4, on Ubuntu 11.04 x64. No matter what I did, whether it was clicking the "X" button, hitting Ctrl+W, looking for a "Close Tab" option in the menus, I couldn't close any tabs in Firefox 4. I started disabling extensions, and first, I disabled the "Global Unity Integration" extension, and lo and behold, after a restart of Firefox, the problem is no more.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis is not a big deal in the grand scheme, but more an annoyance. I allowed Ubuntu (Karmic) to do some updates today. now, in the File Browser, there is no longer a tab bar. Before, there was the bar located beneath the address bar that was similar to Firefox, that had the + to open new tabs. Now it is gone and I do not see an option for a tab bar anywhere. I realize i can right-click on the tree on the left to open a new tab, but I REALLY liked the original feature. Anyone know how to get it back?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhat is the quickest and the most elegant way to implement the following scheme:On my computer I have two browsers and two internet channels:

When I execute the first browser it uses only the cable internet and the second one uses the USB modem.
Thoroughly repeatably, OpenOffice locks up on me when scrolling inside documents. Here's the breakdown:
* Only happens when actively in the process of scrolling
* Doesn't matter if you use keyboard, mouse wheel, drag the scroll bar, or click the scroll arrows
* Always happens within 15 minutes of steady use
* Happens in both writer and calc -- haven't tested the others
* OOo freezes up and no longer repaints the window or responds to anything
* gnome-session peaks out at 100% CPU and stays there
* Currently running application continue to work fine
* Most applications (gnome-terminal, firefox, koffice) can no longer be launched
* Some applications (abiword) can still be launched
* Launching from icons brings up the spinner, but nothing else happens
* Launching a GUI app from a terminal, it looks like it runs on CLI, but nothing ever happens in the GUI proper
* X starts leaking descriptors and thus chewing up drive space at ~1M/s
Killing X and bringing up a new session puts everything back to normal, including CPU usage and drive space. This happens every time on my 64-bit Intel laptop and has persisted through several X/OpenOffice/kernel updates. It never happens on my 32-bit Intel desktop.
Whenever, I successfully save a new document, the document's icon does not display in the KDE File Dialog until OpenOffice restarts. The document exists, because trying to do a "Save As" on it produces a dialog that states if one wants to overwrite the document. Also, trying to export a PDF twice has the same outcome.

Okay, I have saved 3 tabs in the browser always. But from time to time the following sites shows up in my browser without my authorization:
1- http://www.en.com/
2- http://www..%0a/

Why this is still happening? How can I block them to phishing (yes?) me?
Why those people FORCE me to visit (or buy their products) without my permission?
That is INVASION of PRIVACITY!
If I Go to my "Firefox Preferences" and I set my preferences HOW is possible that they can re-set them?
Firefox is sometimes slow opening new tabs/switching between tabs. If I click on the kickoff application launcher button, it takes a few seconds to open, and typing something in the search makes it hang up for about 20 seconds before it does the search. Clicking on an app takes 16 seconds before the menu window closes and the program begins to start. Then it takes another 30sec-1min before the app is usable. smplayer plays video with tearing.
Like right now I tried taking a screenshot, and it tells me
Error launching /usr/share/applications/kde4/ksnapshot.desktop. Either KLauncher is not running anymore, or it failed to start the application.
while the app worked fine.
I also tried running glxgears right now, and it runs but the gears don't move, and terminal states
15 frames in 19.0 seconds = 0.789 FPS
XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":0.0"
after 48 requests (48 known processed) with 15 events remaining.
If I'm on dolphin, and I click a video to start smplayer, it takes about 1 minute for it to start.
Memory is using 1.4GB out of 3.6GB, with 0.08GB/2GB swap
Top shows an average usage of less than 10% average. Xorg is always 25%, kwin is always 10% and then rest of the apps are less than that.

OpenOffice can not follow URLs and complains that it can not find the default browser. Konqueror is set as the default browser in the 'systemsettings' and no other application (so far) has complained about this.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed google-chrome and configured it as my default browser in my desktop "Preferred applications" configuration app, and in update-alternatives --config x-www-browser. I also exported the BROWSER variable to be = /opt/google/chrome/google-chrome (logged out and then logged in again). Although, If I open a XLS file with some links inside (OpenOffice 3.2.0) it opens links in firefox instead of google chrome. I surfed across all options in Tools->Options and there is nothing to set or change the default browser.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 3 layouts: USA, Russian and Hebrew. In Hebrew the W key is mapped to apostrophe, so Ctrl+W in Hebrew layout doesn't close tabs in Firefox. There is no workaround for it as I see by now, so I am trying to get it work this way:I want to map Ctrl+W in Hebrew layout(which is actually a Ctrl+') to be a Ctrl+w. Here is what I got from xmodmap:Code:$ xmodmap -pke | grep 25keycode 25 = w W Cyrillic_tse Cyrillic_TSE apostrophe WAs you can see, there are pairs for each layout, each pair tells what happens without and with the Shift key pressed.
