gxine says there is no file to load.
I'm using slackware 13.1 and xfce.
I created an Ubuntu 10.4 iso with the kickstart cfg on it, trying to boot it with the ks=/cdrom/pathtoconfig (tried even ks=cdrom:/path) parameter in VirtualBox but it refuses to load the file and just launches the generic install.

I go to [URL]...Ravel,_Maurice) >Performances>Prelude a la nuit. If you place the mouse over there, a little box pops-up that says 'Download this file'. So, by clicking 'Prelude a la nuit' I should be downloading the corresponding file (.mp3). But this does not happen. Instead, gxine opens. How can I change this undesirable behavior?
Should I modify something in the web browser? Or perhaps in the desktop environment? I did the following: in SeaMonkey, the web browser I use, I put the url 'about:plugins'. In the table that says "gxine starter plugin" I read audio/mpeg3 and audio/x-mpeg3. So, I went to Edit>Preferences>Helper Applications>New Type. Here I put MIME Type= audio/mpeg3, Extension= mp3. In the same dialog box, under 'When a file is encountered', I chose 'Save it to disk' and 'Always ask me before handling files of this type'. I did the same for audio/x-mpeg3.
I was updating the files I have from packman on my test box and got security warning on mplayer and gixine. I switched mirrors and got the same checksum errors on a totally different mirror except I was not re-offered mplayer once I refused it the first time.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an extracted ISO and I'd like to put the files back into an ISO in such a way that the menus are restored, like the orginal ISO. I am not having any luck with this though, currently the ISO does not play at all (usually gxine can open raw isos and run the menues as if it were put in the dvd drive).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had Ubuntu 11.04 installed on my desktop since it's release. Up until an hour ago, it was working fine. I clicked on an update from the update manager, now booting into a graphical mode is completely broken, (the start-up load hangs at 'Check Battery State ... [0k]'). I restarted my computer, and booted into safe mode, and launched the terminal. This all works fine. I then typed :
Code: sudo gdm start into the command prompt, hoping that I would be able to start things manually. Instead, it spat out this: Code:
gdm-binary[230]: WARNING: Unable to load file '/etc/gdm/custom.conf'. No such file or directory.
gdm-binary[230]: WARNING: Unable to find users : no seat-id found.
gdm-binary[230]: WARNING: Gdm Display: display lasted 0.070467 seconds
The last line was printed about 8 times, with slightly different times, before it gave up and failed. Some information which might help, I have Gnome 2, Unity and KDE (not sure which version), installed. My graphics card is the GTX 275, and I have driver the Nvidia driver 275.21. So yeah, I think the update has gone and moved custom.conf somewhere, but I have no idea on how to fix it. I have a graphics programming assignment due on Friday and I would be eternally grateful if I could get this fixed well before then.
So, I use gxine as my media player, and I like to have it always on top of other windows so that i don't have to repeatedly open it when i click the background when using other applications... this was working for the entirety of my last movie (the recent star trek movie, woo ), but when it was completed, and i clicked on the movie's main screen menu to open the special features, "always on top" suddenly stopped working. I right-click the title bar, and sure enough, "always on top" is checked. so.. what's wrong here?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSlackware 13 didn't install correctly, and I accidentally installed it on my main hard drive on my Toshiba laptop, now it has the MBR all jacked up. I can't boot from CD. If my external usb HD is formatted in a linux format, I have the possibility to boot from that device, but as soon as I load another linux distro, such as ubuntu or pardus, it won't load, and actually disappears from my boot menu. Slackware is dead it runs into a Kernel problem and locks up and then i'm forced to reboot.

I looked in the .xinitrc and can't seem to find any mention of awn or avant. How could I stop it from trying to load. I could tick "Don't show this message again", but it doesn't solve the problem. I could also uninstall awn, but I'd rather solve it properly.

I've installed Slackware 12.2 on a 12 year old desktop. It is the only OS on the machine. When I press the Power button it stops at Slackware's splash screen asking me to choose an OS, even tho' there is only one to choose from. I installed LILO to the MBR and that is also listed there as a possibility.
Is there a way to set Linux so it will simply load automatically?
The program "qtconfig" does not load saved config on startup.
I just installed slackware-current from today's update (mirrored from ftp.slackware.com). The program "qtconfig" seems to have saved my changes to "~/.config/Trolltech.conf". However, after restarting qtconfig all options become the defaults.
I verified this in both the C locale and a UTF-8 locale.
Another computer of mine has a -current system from a few months ago and doesn't have this problem.
I'm curious as to why some things are not happening at boot time (i end up having to manually load them).
In /etc/rc.d/rc.modules (near the bottom) i have set "CPUFREQ=on" and commented out any modules not specific to my hardware.
I have left this one uncommented:

And below the "### CPU frequency scaling policies:" i have;
Code:
uncommented. My scaling governor is set to:
Code:
Now whenever i reboot my machine `lsmod` is not showing any of either powernow-k8 or cpufreq* related modules.
I know i could use /etc/rc.d/rc.local with these:
Code:
But seems to defeat the purpose of rc.modules, any idea why they are not being loaded at boot... ?

I am running LiLo for the first time from my MBR..I seem to like it very much ..In fact i want LiLo to load other Kernels (Ubuntu 10.10) Also I was surprised when it detected my drive and activated the LBA32option...GRUB2 also had a problem accessing my drive beyond the BIOS limit (149GB is seen by BIOS wheras I have 160GB) I am not sure but want to see if LiLo can succeed in reading partition beyond 1024 cylinder limit. How do I modify lilo.conf to add Ubuntu Kernel and Image?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI swore I wouldn't do it again, but I did it anyway and installed 'current,' but I'm using Xfce not KDE. Everything was working very well, until I tried to print this morning. From Okular it would load the paper then stop and not print. From OpenOffice it would load and print, but the output was garbage.
Finally, I moved copies of what needed to be printed to the Xp partition, booted to Xp, and documents printed out just fine. As noted I'm running Slackware64 'current' with the latest versions of Cups and Hplip. The printer is a HP 940c. Hplip reports everything is fine, as does CUPS when running it in a browser (localhost:631).

I'm having a strange problem with gvim. I've installed Slackware on 4 computers now, and this latest one is the first I've seen this issue on. I use the command line for almost everything, and only use gvim in Firefox with Vimperator. So it isn't something I use all the time, but when I need it I really need it. Using textboxes (like, you know, on LQ) is starting to drive me up the wall Anyway, when I load gvim (through Vimperatorr other means) the text is unreadable. It does seem to become readable after it gets covered by another window, but as I type, the new text is unreadable again. Attached is a screenshot, of this post. And, actually, I'm seeing similar behaviour in Gimp.Attached is a second screenshot. The weird lines seem to appear and disappear when the mouse rolls over the area. I don't use very many GUI programs, just Firefox for the most part (which isn't displaying this behaviour). So, this could be a general X issue, or perhaps a WM issue.
