I played with awn for a few days on xfce. I came back to xfce4-panel. Now, every time I startx, I've got the error popup: Starting avant-window-navigator. Warning: Screen isn't composited. run compiz or another compositing manager.
I looked in the .xinitrc and can't seem to find any mention of awn or avant. How could I stop it from trying to load. I could tick "Don't show this message again", but it doesn't solve the problem. I could also uninstall awn, but I'd rather solve it properly.

I swore I wouldn't do it again, but I did it anyway and installed 'current,' but I'm using Xfce not KDE. Everything was working very well, until I tried to print this morning. From Okular it would load the paper then stop and not print. From OpenOffice it would load and print, but the output was garbage.
Finally, I moved copies of what needed to be printed to the Xp partition, booted to Xp, and documents printed out just fine. As noted I'm running Slackware64 'current' with the latest versions of Cups and Hplip. The printer is a HP 940c. Hplip reports everything is fine, as does CUPS when running it in a browser (localhost:631).
My LAN has 2 PCs installed, Ubuntu 10.04 and Windows XP. I run the server on Ubuntu, and client on Windows XP. Because I am doing stress test, so the client will keep sending tons of packets to server.
The strange thing is: After few seconds, the client program crash because of insufficient network buffer, the server is still ok. But after that I cant connect Ubuntu PC anymore until I restart it. And I check the router, the led for the Ubuntu PC is always ON (not blinking), look like it is jam already.
When I log into gnome all my other partitions are automatically mounted under /media, but when I log into kde, they are not. I would rather that they not be automatically mounted. How do I change this?
when i use the cups web interface to add a printer (administration -> add printer) cups starts looking for printers on the network. how do i make sure it does not do this (this annoys the switches at work and my port gets disabled)?
After many month of use NX stop working today for no reason. I try to connect to my system at home and all it does its say authentication failed. I can connect via ssh just fine. I am using Slackware64 13.1
i'm using slackware 13.1.how can i stop programs connected to internet?or how can i control those kind of programs? allow which can connect to internet and/or forbid them...
I upgraded to 13.1 from 13.0 a few days ago. I have a Toshiba Satellite L3655D that I leave on constantly. Twice now, I have woken up to windows (urxvt and firefox) that don't accept keyboard input. I can paste into them and they respond, clicking is fine, but the keyboard either barely sends or is completely ignored - if I tap a bunch of keys, one or two might go through, eventually. New windows work fine, so I have to replace everything I have open.
edit:I switched to XFCE for 2 days and the issue didn't appear, but my other laptop with the same fluxbox settings also did not have any problems. I switched the original laptop back to fluxbox (and happened to upgrade the ATI drivers around the same time) and haven't had it happen since. If this happens to you, try restarting X.
I need a services viewer/start/stopper for slack 13.Htop is OK but want a easier-to-use GUI like in Gnome, etc. However, I am using JWM and so need an app that is not too heavily connected to a desktop like KDE/Gnome.
How do I stop the message asking me to select a vga setting on every boot or press enter or space to see the various settings available? running slackware 13.1 on an aspire one netbook
I'm running XFCE on slackware64-current. I've had this problem for a number of months now. Every so often, XFCE will decide to not recognize key combinations that are mapped to keyboard shortcuts. For example, hitting ALT+F2 will not bring up the xfrun4 dialog box. This happens to all of my keyboard shortcuts (e.g., volume keys).
For now, I've resorted to going into the keyboard shortcut settings and double-clicking on each assignment and then hitting ok. This seems to correct whatever corruption is occurring. What's even more unusual is that all of the settings appear to be intact in the settings box and even in the .xml file.
Slackware 13 didn't install correctly, and I accidentally installed it on my main hard drive on my Toshiba laptop, now it has the MBR all jacked up. I can't boot from CD. If my external usb HD is formatted in a linux format, I have the possibility to boot from that device, but as soon as I load another linux distro, such as ubuntu or pardus, it won't load, and actually disappears from my boot menu. Slackware is dead it runs into a Kernel problem and locks up and then i'm forced to reboot.
Trying to launch kmix, I get a bouncing icon for a few seconds, the kmix icon appears briefly in the task manager, then disappears. If I attempt to launch kmix from a terminal as in
Code: kmix &
I get message about the process number, but no visible interface.
My audio is at a very low level and would like to improve that.
I've installed Slackware 12.2 on a 12 year old desktop. It is the only OS on the machine. When I press the Power button it stops at Slackware's splash screen asking me to choose an OS, even tho' there is only one to choose from. I installed LILO to the MBR and that is also listed there as a possibility.
Is there a way to set Linux so it will simply load automatically?
The program "qtconfig" does not load saved config on startup.
I just installed slackware-current from today's update (mirrored from ftp.slackware.com). The program "qtconfig" seems to have saved my changes to "~/.config/Trolltech.conf". However, after restarting qtconfig all options become the defaults.
I verified this in both the C locale and a UTF-8 locale.
Another computer of mine has a -current system from a few months ago and doesn't have this problem.
I'm booting with Slackware 13.1 x64 My MB is GA-X58A-UD5 rev. 2 but I cant boot. My HD which is connected to the SATA3 port 6 and 7 is not getting detected. It is a Marvell SE9128
How can I tell the Huge.s to load the drivers of this controller?
I am running LiLo for the first time from my MBR..I seem to like it very much ..In fact i want LiLo to load other Kernels (Ubuntu 10.10) Also I was surprised when it detected my drive and activated the LBA32option...GRUB2 also had a problem accessing my drive beyond the BIOS limit (149GB is seen by BIOS wheras I have 160GB) I am not sure but want to see if LiLo can succeed in reading partition beyond 1024 cylinder limit. How do I modify lilo.conf to add Ubuntu Kernel and Image?
i compiled miro with the slackbuild [URL] and i have this message when i launch the program
Code:

Everything worked fine until yesterday, but now when I open Firefox and I try to load a video, I simply get the black video. It's like it is loading but nothing appear and nothing happens! The page is loaded but the video is not shown
I changed anything, I tried to "reinstall" the .so flash plugin... but no luck :S
I also tried to start firefox from command line to see if there's something wrong but nothing...
It's like the loading time for the flash video is infinite.
