I think I know quite well what my problem is. However, I'm still too much of a newbie to know how to solve it.My problem: I no longer get a login screen on my server after I ran a yum update which updated my kernel (thank god, vnc server still works).Cause: During startup Fedora complains that it can't load the module nvidia.ko. Reason: The module doesn't match the current kernel.

View 7 Replies View RelatedUsing tips provided in the "Sticky" posts, I have identified my wireless device -- BCM4322 -- and installed the necessary firmware and drivers. The device appears in Network Manager until system reboot, at which time the "ssd" driver module is loaded instead. After each boot I must execute the following commands to remove ssd and load the Broadcom driver:
rmmod ssb
modprobe lib80211
modprobe wl
The Broadcom README file provides directions to load the correct module automatically, but the commands appear to be incompatible with openSUSE 11.4. I'm happy to provide additional detail if needed
64bit Slack doesn't recognize my ethernet device. ifconfig -a show no eth0. It's an onboard nvidia MCP55 ethernet nic. Never had this problem using 32 bit Slack.
When I try to modprobe forcedeth I get the following error:

I just recompiled my kernel with every possible 10/100 ethernet device included in the modules. Still no go.
I've started using slackpkg to keep my system up to date now and after the updates in January my wireless doesn't reconnect after a resume from suspend, I have to connect then kill dhcpcd and restart it. Any ideas what changed there and how I fix it. From the install of 13 until Jan it worked fine.

I don't see any errors, mutt simply doesn't transmit the data via msmtp as it should.
I switched back to the version of Mutt in Slackware 13.1 and the automatic transmission of video detected by motion and transmitted by mutt via msmtp started working properly.
I had finally go tmy netbook set up the way i wanted it, everything was working great. The notification popups were annoying me so i was trying to disable them. I used this string in a terminal: sudo mv /usr/ share /dbus-1/services/org.freedesktop.Notifications.service /usr/share/dbus1/services/org.freedesktop.Notifications. service.disabled
After rebooting i had nothing but a taskbar.No icons, no panels, nothing but wallpaper and the taskbar. I can't even figure out how to open up a terminal.Hopefully there is a way to load synaptics and reload the desktop somehow?
When I try to load the Realtek 8187 modules to kernel using the ./wlan1up command, I get the following error:

On Slackware 13.1, I am trying to connect to another computer using:

I tried to connect to both another Slackware 13.1 computer and a Debian computer. I also edited the /etc/X11/xdm/Xaccess file on the remote host to enable the graphical login access. I always get the same error.
Everything worked fine until yesterday, but now when I open Firefox and I try to load a video, I simply get the black video. It's like it is loading but nothing appear and nothing happens! The page is loaded but the video is not shown
I changed anything, I tried to "reinstall" the .so flash plugin... but no luck :S
I also tried to start firefox from command line to see if there's something wrong but nothing...
It's like the loading time for the flash video is infinite.
I am trying to install a Sunix 4018T dual parallel port card on a pc with Mandriva Linux 2010.1: Dealer told me that linux has driver for this card already so I inserted it and turned on my pc. Unfortunately when I try to install my Okidata ML320, cups it's not showing any parallel ports. i installed firefox 4 and removed the old 3.X version. did a general update that my computer showed me was available then i noticed the first problem. firefox 4 would not launch when i clicked it, it would only launch when i clicked the gnome 3 applications button and then clicked and dragged the firefox logo to the desktop, then it opened. the second problem i am now having which at the moment is more bothersome is that after i closed the lid to my laptop and opened it up again after a while and logged back in and noticed that the ENTIRE gnome 3 environment was gone. no panel no menu nothing just the desktop and a few desktop icons. i tried the command "yum install gnome-shell" but it just sed that gnome 2.31.5-7 .fc14.i686 was already installed so it wasnt gonna do anything, then i tried the "gnome-shell --replace" command and it just said

I've installed openSuse 11.4 server-mode (text only) on my desktop, and I'm trying to configure IceWM so i'll eventually have it set up so it always boots into text only mode, but I could be able to quickly start icewm via the command line.using Yast, I installed the Xorg server, and icewm.when I type X, the screen goes black and it just doesn't seem to do anythingI found if I hit ctrl+alt+f1 it kinda puts me back into text only mode, but I can't put in commands anymore. The last thing it says on the screen is:

What happens is on first boot, my Synaptics touchpad is not being recognised by the Kernel, so I have to boot a second time when it will start working.I have followed and tried loads of advice from different threads, including the copying and editing of the 11-x11-synaptics.fdi file under etc/hal/policy. Also the psmouse proto=any trick. The rmmod and further modprobe of psmouse. Restarting both HALD and UDEV both later and earlier in the boot procedure . The results of all of which is the same. When opening gedit as a user I get the following message

This is on an upgraded machine using the preupgrade method. The same has happened on two machines upgraded from F14 to F15 the same way. 64 bit systems.

I want to do some modules development in fedora 11, by the command uname -r, I get the current kernel running in my system.

So,the modules I developed can't insert to current running kernel because current is i686 and the compile environment is i586. Is that a bug of fedora 11?
When i open one of the web browsers i use and try to load a web site it's taking to long to respond and sometimes it doesnt load the website at all. I have tried with firefox,epiphany,opera with all the same results. I am sure that this is not a problem with my internet connection because i don't have these problems with windows.Also the network manager connection settings are correct
I also tried choosing the old kernel(2.6.32.24) to boot from but no success.The problem is the same as if i am using the 2.6.32.25 kernel. The strange thing is that i can download packages from synaptic with full speed. I had Fedora 7 and Windows Vista dual booting on my computer. I just installed Fedora 10. When the live CD asked me where to install it, I chose "Remove all Linux Partitions and create default layout" The installation went perfectly, but now when reboot my computer, it boots directly into Fedora; GRUB does not load to ask me which OS I want to load. I know I did not overwrite Vista because I can still view my Vista files through Fedora. Here is my grub.conf file:

What do I need to do to make GRUB load again upon booting?
I've been unable to boot into x using the real-time kernel from CCRMA at home. I get the error "Failed to load module "nvidia" (module-specific error,0) no drivers available. I'm using the driver from Nvidia. I know that this is not an official Fedora kernel and I should be bothering CCRMA about this, but in the mean time could I edit the entry in grub.conf so that it will use the Nouveau driver for that kernel only? That way I could "dual-boot", and just use the rt kernel when I want to use audio software and don't need 3d graphics.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis morning I came into my office and turned my computer on, per usual, but found that after about 10 minutes of waiting, I was still only getting the blinking cursor of waiting.
Since Ctr-Alt-Del did nothing, I held the power button down on the computer, and started again. This time I entered GRUB and chose the recovery mode, hoping for a fix disc option or some such.
However, what I was faced with was an ATA error that pointed to hard drive errors. (I can't remember what the exact error was now) So I pulled out my 10.10 install cd and booted into that.
I ran the fsck command until it returned no more errors, and rebooted. I waited for the login screen to come up, and was dismayed when it did - only command line style.
So I logged in and ran startx hoping to at least get something to show up on my screen, when it failed and gave me these errors code...
I was disappointed.
I won't bore you with the tales of my googling exploits and all the other things I've tried so far because the list would get extensive. So I ask you: Any ideas?

I recently upgraded to slackware-current from Slackware 13 via slackroll, and have only encountered one problem. My file manager no longer thumbnails images, and icons (mostly PNG) aren't appearing no matter what GTK theme is set. Running from the command line produces no errors, and when brought up in something else (say feh /path/to/icon.png) it works perfectly. This is the only hitch I have encountered so far. The same thing happens with emoticons in Pidgin. Does anyone know of a fix?
