Just installed the LXDE spin of 13 onto my acer aspire netbook. Couldn't make a usb boot stick, finally succeeded with an external card reader and unetbootin. Anyway, GXine isn't working, though it says its configured correctly. I'm very new to fedora and linux in general, played a bit with ubuntu 9.10.

My case also has a 3.5mm jack for headphones.If I plug in the headphones, I will hear audio from both the monitor speakers and the headphones. If I go into the Gnome sound preferences and change the output connector from Analog Output to Analog Headphones..it's the same thing.My preference would be to have the monitor audio muted automatically whenever I plug in the headphones. I've searched other threads and can't seem to come up with a working solution.I've messed around in alsamixer and still no luck

I installed Ubuntu 10.04 from a Live CD today. Everything seemed to go fine, I chose to wipe the entire disk. However, it would only startup once. Now, when I turn on my laptop, all I get is a blank screen.
I had a look at my partitions with GParted on the Live CD and noticed that there was a 1 MiB unallocated space just before it. code...
After upgrading my Sony VAIO from Fedora 12 to Fedora 13 my NFS shares don't seem to be working correctly. First of all, mounting them via /etc/fstab is quite slow now. More importantly, When I transfer files from my laptop client to my NFS share, the owner/group on the client become "nobody". However, on the NFS server, they are both "root". I am using a script containing "cp" commands to perform backups of certain directories, retaining original owner/group info. Since the Fedora 13 upgrade, the script complains with each file that it was unable to preserve the information, and the end of the line always contains "Invalid argument".
As a last resort, I upgraded the 'server' (a 64 bit version) from Fedora 12 to Fedora 13. There has been no improvement.
I tried compiling a simple Hello World with gcc but didn't have any luck. I got this message: Code: junk.c:1:19: error: stdio.h: No such file or directory gcc was installed and configured correctly at one point but I think I changed the the .bash_profile since then. I checked where stdio.h lives. The path is:

So I just installed Mandriva and was trying to install alien so I don't have to deal with source anymore. This happened, tried other sources and the same error. Maybe I'm overlooking something simple, but this is killing me.

My DVD-ROM drive seems to have issues under Fedora 15.This is the "normal" spin with GNOME3, all updates have been installed.First off, the drive seems to get "stuck" will not eject any media once inserted.Occaisionally, if I just keep pressing the eject button, the media tray will jump out, but then will immediately pull itself back in without any interaction from me.Second issue: video DVDs do not mount. It does not seem to matter if libdvdcss is installed or not. When a DVD video disc is inserted, the DVD drive completely disappears from Nautilus' Computer window. Once I eject the DVD (after pressing eject 50 times) the drive comes back to the Computer window.The drive is a Plextor DVD-RW PX-755SA connected via SATAI have tried using either regular IDE or AHCI configuration in the BIOS for it, no change either way.The drive works fine under Ubuntu and OpenSUSE, but I like F15 better and would like to get this fixed.

The Fedora 14 (and 13) pwc Philips Webcam Driver.is only supporting 160x120 resolution (and nothing higher such as 640x480). Also not supporting some other things correctly, I suspect.I say so having tested multiple web camera software and either they don't work (because they have no setting for low res) or they do work if settable to low res., but not for any higher res.I also have a working setpwc tool which shows the driver does not support framerate resetting.I have a Toucam and Toucam Pro - same for both.Also these units worked fine under Fedora 11, and under earlier versions even Red Hat 4.But I usually got the latest pwc from Saillaird.org and compiled it to get full support but there are no more current sources there anymore, and the older ones don't compile.But as I am saying under F11 it was fully correct, now under F13 and 14 it is broken.

No biggie, I thought; when I went to reinstall it, I saw that VLC 1.0.5-1 fc12 was available. Tried to install it, and KPackageKit calmly proceeded to throw up, telling me:

Wonderful. Now I don't have a video player that natively does mpg/avi; Dragon Player pretends to play them, but there's no video; same with Xine. BTW, I tried to report this via Bugzilla at Redhat, but couldn't find anything that resembled a way to report an actual bug/problem (what app doesn't work, how it doesn't work, any error messages).
im using ubuntu 10.10 on a dell e1505 laptop with a x1400 graphics card. 2.5 gb ram and a core 2 duo 1.83. i also dual boot vista for lightroom only. my huge problem is that every music player i try doesnt work correctly in some way. ive tried amarok, banshee, rhythmbox, songbird (wine), exail, one with a name that started with a "g" and was long and strange. i forget the name now. i think i tried a few others too. i also have about 40k songs but ive only loaded my entire library into rhythmbox. the others i just tried with one cd.
my problem is that they either crash right away, things dont work such as the eq, or they freeze the entire pc. rhythmbox is the best i can do and it freezes my entire pc after about an hour of use...sometimes quicker.something that could possibly be of importance...i could not get 10.04 to work with my external monitor on this pc. it made the entire screen very wiggly looking. 10.10 solved that. though it does flicker every once in awhile.please tell me there is some way i can fix this...i really dont want to go back to vista.
What it does is, if you do something to change anything on the screen, for example, highlighting text, or switching from one tab/menu in an application to another. The screen doesn't show the change. The only way to SEE the change is to do something else to the screen, like grabbing and moving the application around, or scrolling the page of a website, etc. If you don't do that, you won't see what's really on the screen, but rather what WAS on the screen.
Another example:
*) say you have an application open with 3 tabs: tab1, tab2, and tab3.
*) Switch from tab1 to tab2 and you see no change on the screen.
*) Switch from tab2 to tab3 and you see tab 2 on the screen, NOT tab 3.
*) Switch from tab3 to tab 2 and you see tab3 on the screen, and NOT tab2.
Or, if you're typing in this box to make a post, and you hit ctrl+a to select all, you see no change. If you click in the box to deselect all, then it looks like you've selected all text still. The only way to see what's currently on the screen is to scroll the text box or page just a bit, or, if you're using an application, then you'd have to move it around on the screen a bit.
As i've said, the nVidia drivers are installed and working, as well as compiz, etc.

Also, i did BOTH the dracut thing, and the extra kernel paramter in the grub.conf. So, nouveau is blacklisted. Oddly enough though, i do NOT have this problem when using the nouveau driver...
Also, fwiw, i think that i should mention that i'm not using the "Desktop Settings > Enable Desktop Effects" method, because i always seem to have problems with getting certain features to work, like the background for the cube skydome, etc. How i do it is that i install a package called compiz-manager, and i have it set to run at session start. This makes all of the compiz features work fine. One thing that i've noticed though, is that on my other workstation, i haven't set that up yet, and it seems that is is NOT having the same issue. While compiz-manager was running, i tried to use the "desktop settings" method, and it crapped out and reverted back to the old school desktop. I then tried it again, and it reloaded compiz, and there is no screen update issues now. So it seems that you have to have both of them running in order to get all of the compiz options to work, and not have the screen refresh issue?

My ID tags are not being read correctly through through both Rhythmbox and Banshee, but my tag editor, dBpoweramp, and Ubuntu properties reports the information correctly. All of my music is stored on another computer stream via the network. For example, I have an album by X Japan label as this:Track: Break the DarknessArtist: XAlbum: I'll Kill You EPYear: 1985
But banshee breaks up the album into two different albums, and on top of that, Banshee see it as X Japan, but reads it as X for the artist. And it's not just this album, it happens to a lot of my albums, sometimes they are missing tracks or mislabel or missing cover art, etc, etc, but only within the media player. I'm running Kubuntu and have tested flash video sites with firefox, chromium and rekonq. I have installed all the available packages from Software Management but flash videos still don't display correctly. All get is a small rectangle of video on the bottom left hand side of the video box (which is otherwise grey).

I think it has to do with sr0 or DVD mount it is being mounted as /media almost forgot fedora 14 fresh install added vlc, k9 xbmc mplayer everything plays fine from the HDD.
I think this is because I installed a new DVD drive

The video streaming seased because they wouldn't load it stays searching forever! Now ..... doesn't work.I am afraid that by tampering with the command it also affected the flash player file.This is an ethernet connection , 100 mb/s, netgear router.
I've been trying to update Fedora 15 for weeks. I always end up with a transaction error and the update stalls. The error reads: GPG keys listed for RPM Fusion for Fedora Rawhide-free repository are installed but they are not correct for this package. Check that the correct key urls are configured for this repository.
This is far too involved for a linux newbie, I think my only option is to reformat and reinstall. This is so frustrating, there are 250 MB of updates available that I can't access.
I recently installed Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. It is working well, but Movie Player does not work, and Dragon Player plays videos/movies but with no audio. VLC works fine. how to either remove Movie Player and Dragon Player or make them work. I tried apt-get remove mplayer but that doesn't work. If not that, I wonder if the default media player can be changed to VLC, e.g., when you click any video it will start to play using VLC?

However, the traffic is not going between them. What could be missing?The bridging machine has 3 NICS: eth0, eth1, eth2. eth0 is configured normally with an IP address (I can login via ssh to it just fine). The bridge is named br0 and uses eth1 and eth2 (a dual NIC card for convenience identifying which NICs are the bridge).

I am currently using Fedora 11 KDE as my primary operating system at work, but i am having a little bit of troubles getting an audio player to work properly. I am trying to play music off of a separate primary FAT32 file system (which is my shared drive amongst all my operating systems), but when i attempt to load the files via JuK, i receive this error: cannot find demultiplexer plugin for MRL.
I have been playing around with other players as well, and it seems like the only other player which will actually load up the media on this separate partition is Banshee, but doesn't seem to want to play it.
