I tried to build a PPP connection with umtsmon, but failed. I'm using a ZTE MF110 Stick. The reaction from my provider's support was succinct: "Linux untersttzen wir nicht." (We don't support Linux.)
The hardware seems to work fine, the stick shows a green light, and I sent a test SMS via umtsmon. The umtsmon interface successfully identifies my Provider, but does not connect.
Here is part of umtsmon debug output:
Code:
UIState::setState(6 -> 6)
##P4 t=133: ConnectionInfo:InhibitionCount ++, now is 1
##P3 t=133: TempSerialPort::TempSerialPort()
##P5 t=133: 0x75a6c0 = Query::setSerial(0x7fffece12a00)
##P3 t=134: Serial::openDev('/dev/ttyUSB2') as FD 8 - Serial instance

OpenSuse 11.4 Asus Netbook 1000H Following other members in the forums I have installed Opensuse 11.4 on the Netbook. In the early days Ubuntu Netbook Remix worked well for me. But this has been discarded, and the "one size fits all" Ubuntu had become slow and cumbersome. So..... onto my post. Opensuse is working well. The install went beautifully.
It detected the Wireless Internet and I am able to get on line. I also need to share the Internet connection to a desktop. This is done via a small network switch. Thus far I cannot do this. I tried to use ifup to configure a static ip but this busted my Wireless configuration. I went back to knetwork manager. Then I tried to set up the wired network using knetwork manager and under IPV4 "share" the connection. But this blanks out any possiblity of a static address and substitutes dhcp. My desktop cannot ping the this dhcp address. Ubuntu had this thing called Firestarter? - from memory. This configured the system to sharing the network.

I have two networks. One of them is wired, the other is wireless. The wired has an internet connection and a few other computers connected to it. The wireless network has a few hosts connected to it too, but it has no internet connection. What I've been trying, fruitlessly, to do, is make all connections that are bound to the internet, or my wired network, be routed that way, and all the connections to the hosts of the wireless network go that way.
Here's the setup..
Wired:
192.168.1.0/24 Gateway = 192.168.1.1
Route internet through here
Wireless
192.168.2.0/24 Gateway = 192.168.2.1
If my computer sends a packet to the internet, it should be routed through 192.168.1.1 If I send a packet to one of the local hosts of the wireless network, it should be routed through 192.168.2.1. Here's the routing table I've set up(This is one of many configurations I've tried)
Code:
$ ip route show
192.168.2.1 dev wlan0 scope link
192.168.2.0/24 via 192.168.2.1 dev wlan0 src 192.168.2.4
[code]....
With this, and everything else, I get destination host unreachable when pinging. The strange thing is that, if I unplug my eth cable, reboot and connect to the wireless network, everything is fine and I can access the router and the others. I'm trying to improve my networking skills, as I've had this of setting up a small linux box as a router for quite some time, for the fun of it, but I need to get routing under control before I go ruin my network.

I'm new in SUSE 11.4. My problem is: I'm using Alfa AWUS036H card. It's recognised and I can establish connection to my network, but cant get to Internet. I can't surf the web cos Firefox tell me that connection is timed out. Now I'm confused why I can't surf the web even if I'm connected. Also, I trayed to instal linux drivers for this card folloving Ubuntu "how to" and it just dont work.

It is just 3 days that I am using Linux Opensuse 11.2. I got a problem with Internet connection: I have HUWAEI E1550 3G Modem, but I have no idea about using it on Linux OpenSuse 11.2. Now I use it Windows7, there is no problem, because there is a program and driver for modem.

I have bought a TV which has possibility to connect via LAN to Internet. At this moment I have no router but I suppose it should work also via PC where is 2nd net card. (of course PC must be ON)
So I connect TV to PC to one net card and from 2nd to internet (provider socket). But how should I set the PC to work it? Allow both cards, it is clear but is it enough? I dont suppose
PS: if important, KDE and oS 11.3

I've just spent the entire night trying to get my computer to share Internet with my laptop. I have DSL Internet with the modem configured to bridge mode. On the openSUSE server I have two NIC's. When setting up the DSL (pppoe) it created a dsl0 which is using the NIC eth0. So now I have dsl0, eth0, and eth1 I configured eth1 for DHCP server. When I connect with my laptop using DHCP it gets an IP address just fine. However I can't access the Internet. I think my problem is in the Kernel IP Routing Table. Here is the output from /sbin/route -n
[Code]...
dsl0 obtains IP from ISP eth0 is set to DHCP although that confuses me because how can the same NIC have two IP Addresses? eth1 static IP 10.30.60.1

Dell Precision Workstation running Suse 11.1 & KDE 3.5 as default O/S, with Suse 11.3 KDE4, Ubuntu 10.04 & Win XP Pro as secondary O/S's.Medion PC with Win XP Pro for those windows apps I have to use (against better judgement but because my clients require it!)
On Friday 6th I was having a play with Apache2 running on the Dell Precision on Suse 11.1. I have had a local development webserver for some time to test websites before uploading them a host server. I had wanted to test the DHCP & DNS functions for some time, and this seemed like a good opportunity. But I ran into some problems and decided to un-install the DHCP & DNS. I intended to install a VM and re-install the Apache server on it, to make it easier to troubleshoot.Unfortunately my internet connection on that box is now broken, but only with the Suse 11.1 install. The other 3 O/S's all work fine, and the rest of my machines are all good. In fact the Suse 11.1 install can communicate across the LAN, and print to both the network printers, it just won't connect to the Internet. Turning off the firewall doesn't do anything, and reconfiguring the NIC in YaST doesn't help.
I suspect that there is a config file somewhere with faulty info, but I can't find it. If searched everything that was changed on that date.I have been searching this forum, LinuxQuestions forums, and Googling for 2 days with no real success. I found some interesting threads which I thought would help but so far no luck. I can ping all the interfaces on my LAN, but anything outside is blocked. I thought it might be in the BT HomeHub but that works fine and all the boxes can connect except with the Precision running 11.1.

I played with the Network Settings section in YaST, because I wanted to use the wireless network card I installed into the PCI port. OpenSUSE recognised the type of card and its MAC number, and told me that I needed to install a firmware (fwcutter something). I tried some changes on the cable internet connection (like activate on plugged) while I tried to change the wireless connection (like activate on boot).
What I have now is that my cable internet connection is not working at all (it was working just 3 days ago), my wireless internet connection is, as always, not working either. I managed to work the wireless card on Windows XP by finding its drivers.
Since the problem is with my office computer, I cannot answer the exact brand names of the ethernet card and wireless card. Shall I reinstall OpenSUSE 11.3 from the DVD I have?
Second problem: OpenSUSE does not recognise my external harddisk, it gives an error about mounting the device.

Opensuse 11.2 - wired internet connection
I keep losing internet connectivity from within OpenSuse. I've had ubuntu/kubuntu beforeand never had a problem. I installed opensuse and now after a few minutes of browsing I'll lose my internet connection.I also dual boot into winXP without any problems.I noticed that when the connection is lost I can't even reach my router - which is where I'm getting the wired connection from.So it's not just the outside internet but the local network too. It only happens within opensuse.

I've installed opensuse 11.2 on an old IBM thinkpad. The install went without a hitch and when I got to the desktop I inserted my Dlink DWL-G132 wireless USB adapter. Opensuse immediately recognised that a wireless device was attached and I could see my wireless network listed. I entered my WPA password and was able to connect to my routers configuration page by entering 192.168.0.1 in the URL bar of firefox. For some reason I am unable to navigate to any webpage. When I enter a URL firefox acts as though there is no internet connection. The only way I can get the internet on my laptop is to connect it to my router with a cable. I used a wired connection and ran the update utility thinking that perhaps an update would fix the issue but it did not. I know the adapter works because the laptop used to have windows xp installed and I could connect fine with that.
Does anyone here have any idea why I would be able to connect wirelessly to the routers configuration page but not to the internet? I appreciate any advice anyone may have.

I have just installed OPENSUSE 11.3 (32 bit) on a pc. I am brand new to OPENSUSE. I have connected a network cable from a router that previously connected a Windows XP machine to a home wired network/internet connection. The computer shows network connectivity, but when I launch Firefox it cannot find the OPENSUSE URL or any other such as my ISP. Do I need to install or activate some LINUX application to make the OPENSUSE system see the network /internet connection? I can't seem to find any application in the basic OPENSUSE installation that addresses this. Is there some kind of firewall that needs to be dealt with?

I have a ppoe internet connection. I was easier and faster to configure it in Yast than in Windows XP. When
The provider here sometimes goes through some problems and the connection may disappear and return at any unexpected moment. In Windows there is a icon on system tray that dysplays such information and I know when the connection is gone. It also allows me to try to reconnect manually. Where do I find these information on Opensuse here do I manage to reconnect. In Windows it was also possible to set the connection to re-dial automatically when it was out. It was very useful if it failed in the middle of a download, the system reconnected and the download manager retried until download resumed. Is there some way to adjust opensuse to reconnect automatically when connection fails or some software that does it? Furthermore, is there a good download manager that works in Opensuse that pause, accelerates downloads and retries when connection fails?

I have installed opensuse 11.4 xen on a HP ML115 G5 AMD Opteron server, which previously hosted a fully working opensuse 11.3 xen. The problem seems to be that br0 is not showing as a bridge device in network settings. When I first installed opensuse 11.4 networking was available via dhcp, I then installed the xen tools and answered the prompt to create a bridge, it was only when I re-booted the system that I lost my network connection.
Going back into network settings I compared the settings to an existing working opensuse 11.3 xen install that I have and noticed that br0 is not showing as a bridge device in network settings so cannot be selected, in fact no bridged devices are shown.

I have recently moved countries and have finally got my internet connected today after a lengthy wait. I have a pretty fast connection - it's a fibre connection at approx 100Mbps Between my onu (modem) & computer (Lenovo SL510) I have a cisco wrt120N wireless router. I'm using Opensuse 11.3 (also dual boot with Win7)
My problem is . . . When I enter url in firefox (4) I get the message "looking up www. . ." for approx 5 to 15 seconds before anything starts to load. I also have the same behaviour in konqueror, firefox and yast software manager.
If I use Google Chrome the pages load instantly. Even never before visited pages.
A typical webpage such as Stuff.co.nz - Latest New Zealand News & World News, Sports News & NZ Weather Forecasts takes approx 20 to thirty secs to load in firefox and 3 seconds in Chrome. I can see the same behaviour always whether Chrome used first or firefox used first - so cache does not appear to be the issue.
If I boot into Win7 - websites load instantly there also.
I have updated to the latest wireless drivers for my system - but the behaviour is also evident if I attach a lan cable.
Here is a little info
Code:
/sbin/ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 60:EB:69:AE:C6:28
UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0

From version 11.3 to 11.4 now often occurs after a problem has already become annoying! My computer connects to internet through a router and sometimes after about 4, 5 hours going through the browser so I cannot reach Google or someone else's server Skype only stays connected!
This is not a hardware problem occurs because even after changing the router and the computer problem remains! When this happens the router has access to the Internet and other computer via wifi can connect without a problem! How to figure out where the problem comes? I attach the output of dmesg:
Code:
[40285.897112] SFW2-INext-ACC-TCP IN=eth0 OUT= MAC=1c:6f:65:81:21:73:00:1e:65:90:c9:a6:08:00 SRC=192.168.1.102 DST=192.168.1.100 LEN=60 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=57753 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=44432 DPT=22 WINDOW=4380 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0 OPT (020405B40402080A001F96780000000001030307)
I checked this code in google and found that a similar prolem had people from the version 10.3 but I do not remember then I had this problem occur examples of 11.3.

I have two linux laptops. Currently, I'm using both of them at work, side-by-side. Now the problem is, I'm connected to a wireless router, but the wireless only works on one of the laptops. So I'm stuck with one laptop that has no access to the internet. Both machines do, however, have working ethernet nic cards. So, I was wondering if I could use the laptop with the wireless connection to share the internet connection with my other linux machine and access the internet on both of them. Or as an alternative, just use the internet on the machine without wireless and be able to switch back and forth, that would increase my productivity like 30 fold.
