I want to install BackTrack as a virtual PC in my Slackware current. What is the FREE application of virtualisation that fit best with Slackware to do this. Do you think my ASRock Desktop with his Intel Atom processor is strong enough for virtualisation.

just be aware of this in 13.0 and previous, assigned user numbers begin at 500 by default. in 13.37, they begin at 1000. this is especially important if you have a separate drive or partition mounted as /home and you want to keep your /home data under the same user name while migrating to 13.37 (and like me are keeping a dual boot while making the transition).

Running Slackware64-13.1; installed the SlackBuild Blender and I changed the last line in SlackBuild script to .txz everything seems fine. Now I'm looking at FlashPlayer SlackBuild, noticed the last line is .tgz? Just want to make sure I am supposed to be changing the last script line .tgz to .txz?

To enable samba virtual file-system in mc (under slackware-current), mc's configure needs different arguments than before. See the attached patch.

Occasionally, when startx, I got the error message: "Monitor output has changed" error message ( and sometimes it appear while I am working in X too but rarer). Whenever this happened, my screen changes to "1024x768" resolution when normally it is "1280x800". I click on "Configure", a "Configure Display" windows appear and I have to change the screen to Size"1280x800" back (since it would give me 1024x768"). Besides, the number of error messages will be up to 50s, 60s message. (This "Configure Display" is what you get when you go to "Application->System->"Screen Resize and Rotate" (KRandRTray)) My computer is Toshiba Satellite L500, the distro is Slackware 13.37. It was just installed so all the configuration is out of the box.

I recently installed virtual box on debian and after it had finished my terminal informed me that I could remove some "unnecessary" software by use of sudo apt-get autoremove. When I did this, some of the icons on the desktop changed and all of the icons in the drop down menu on the bar at the top of the screen also changed to ordinary folder symbols. The theme that I was using also went away. I restarted the computer and it booted back into a shell prompt with no GUI. I tried to get back to the GUI using alt+f7 but it didn't seem to exist

I'm working on a tutorial using Backtrack 4 Live USB, and I would like to take a screencast of what I'm doing (not just screenshots)So far I have tried these application with limited success:-recordmydesktop -xvidcap -wink -istanbul -vlc -vnc2flvEach time I try the resulting files are generally choppy (at best 1 frame per second) and most don't even end up with a clear view of the screen each time.

Ok so I did some stupid stuff and tried to install some of the Backtrack 4 tools. Now when I tried to install VLC player in terminal I get this:"ph@top:~$ sudo apt-get install vlc Reading package lists. Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation:

My only OS is Ubuntu 10.04. There are no partitions ( that is, I use the entire hard drive for Ubuntu, obviously). I need to run Backtrack for security testing. I've seen lots of various options from running it in virtualbox to running it from a bootable USB but there seem to be problems originating with the grub bootloader. One thing I keep seeing is that the only way to get round all this is to hard drive install Backtrack first and THEN install Ubuntu. Clearly I don't want to have to reinstall my entire world on my pc, play with settings, re-install a billion apps etc.
My question is this - Given that I have 10.04 installed and running alone, how do I get Backtrack installed/running easily and without all the associated disasters? I like the USB option because the thought of screwing the grub up does not appeal; I don't want to reboot my computer and be told "I'm grub and I don't want you to load anything" / Other Annoying Message.Backtrack's site says they didn't provide a USB option so what should I use to burn the ISO (does Unetbootin work for Ubuntu?

I just downloaded Backtrack 5 and installed it. Had some problems getting the right driver for my gpu but eventually managed to install the right one. At first I thought the problem could be because I didn't have the right gpu driver but its still there. My backtrack freezes when I do anything,for instance I open firefox and browse the internet I can't open command promp or even close firefox with the close butten (alt-F4 does work). I can do 1 thing but then it just freezes and I can only do the thing I was doing. I can still browse but can't do anything else. I have the 64-bit gnome edition.
system specs are:
asus p6t deluxe V2
intel core I7 930 (2.80GHz)
nvidia geforce gtx 470
western digital caviar black 1TB

This image has been developed and tested on the Motorola Xoom. Your mileage may vary on other devices.
As this image runs in a chroot, you will need to have your device rooted. There are numerous tutorials on the subject online and are not included here.
Rooting your device will potentially void its warranty and we are not in any way resposible if you brick your device while rooting it.
IMPORTANT POINTS:
1. Since the image runs in a chroot, there is no root password set.
2. There are 2 scripts under /usr/bin/ 'startvnc' and 'stopvnc' that are set to start with the Xoom's default resolution.
3. The current vnc password is set to 'toortoor' and can be changed by running 'vncpasswd'
4. This image is a work in progress and suggestions/tips from the community are always welcome.
GETTING STARTED:
1. Once you have downloaded the ARM BT package, save the files in a convenient location. The steps below assume they are in the platform-tools folder of the Android SDK.
2. Go to your platform-tools directory and proceed to make a directory on the device to store BT5:
3. Copy over the busybox install files:
4. Install busybox on the device:
5. Transfer the required BT5 files to the device:
6. Uncompress the image and start BT5:
If all goes well, you'll be in the BT5 chroot:

I need to buy a wireless USB dongle for an Linux laptop. The intention is to use it with a security penetration distro like BackTrack. I want it to work without having to do install anything outside of apt (especially NDISWrapper). It would be really nice to know if you're currently using it.

Trying to boot backtack 4 and I am running into issues. There are a few different options to boot from. And this happens with whichever option I choose.
Hda: cdrom_decode_status: status=0x51 {driveready seekcomplete error}
Hda: cdrom_decode_status: error=0x40 {lastfailedsense=0x40 }
Hda: possibly failed opcode: 0xa0
Other live distros work. I have tried 2 different isos and 4 different dvds. And the live boot works when I try it in virtualbox. Per a google search I turned plug and play os on and off in the bios. Haven't tried much else.
