General :: Unwanted Gnome Styles In KDE On Fedora 13
Sep 24, 2010
I'm confused while trying to fix controls styles (tabs, buttons, scrollbars, main menus, popup menus) of my 3dparty applications in KDE. The problem reflected in the fact that all controls of non-KDE applications (Firefox, Zend Studio, Gimp,..) have Gnome styles. But setted widget style is "Oxygen".I assume that this problem has appeared after installing new fonts in my system.
I am trying to install the somewhat quite popular theme QTCurve, so I can use it as a base theme for the theme black pearl, which I am really into. However, being usually highly skilled in computer knowledge, I can find the proper way/area to place a new theme, I just know it might be under a folder in the root sector containing themes for kde and will be there upon restart.
I've got a few processes running on my machine called simply '3'. I don't know what they are or where they have come from but all I know is that I don't want them there. I have to periodically type killall 3. This is the output from top, all processes listed are of this '3' type.

I am using Fedora12 with latest update, and am using kde4.3.4.
To decrease the memory consumption on one of my system I disabled many services presently only following services are running:
NetworkManager abrtd acpid akmods
[Code]....
Now I want to stop some default running process like modem-manager, seapplet, ksmserver, krunner and sometime knotify4. I could not locate the initiation point of these services. So that I can manage (start/stop) these services.
I have a few problem. I have a txt file that convert from pcap to txt file. What I want is to eliminate unwanted text from my txt file. Here is the example of the what I want to do:
I have been setting up my laptop as a dual boot with Win7 (yuckkk!) and Ubunutu 11.04. My HP Pavilion dm4 came with 4 primary partitions used by Windows! (Again, yuckkk!) I got rid of Windows_recover partition (I don't remember the exact name) converted that primary partition to an extended partition and then installed Ubuntu in virtual partitions. All that works. What I don't like is that the partition HP_TOOLS shows up in Nautilus, and if you click on it, it self-mounts and makes that partition accessible.
How to remove unwanted output that comes from executing system api?
for eg:when i execute system("telnet 127.0.0.1") i want the output to start with login and then password and then directly the command prompt, how can i remove the output that gets generated before showing the prompt?
I'm completely new to DocBook, but am writing a few things I'd like to use it for. I'm looking to get away from the standard stylesheet (I'm using Ubuntu, and at the moment I use /usr/share/docbook-utils/docbook-utils.dsl). Is there anywhere I can browse different ones on the web to find one I like, that formats to HTML and PS/PDF?Am I even going about this in the right way? As much as I try and learn, I just can't fit it into my head how everything fits together with DocBook.
Today Software Update on Fedora 13 listed updates for OpenJDK, SSH protocol, and SE Linux policy configuration. When I clicked on the Install button I was presented with a list of nearly a hundred fonts that Software Update said were required. They were all fonts that I have removed from my computer over and over - fonts for languages that I do not speak and don't want on my computer.
I unchecked the fonts, but Software Update said it could not continue without installing them. Apparently they are dependencies of one or more of the three packages I mentioned above. Is there a way to figure out what package is constantly installing these fonts?
I note that after deleting the fonts I never have any problem with apps failing to run. And if I go to a web page created with a language that requires a particular type of font, Firefox still displays the page with the correct font for that language, even after removing the fonts from my computer. Are they really required?
There is a very small thing which needs to be fixed in 11.04. In AisleRiot Solitaire the cards are ugly. In View -> Card styles -> Install card themes it asks me if I want to install additional software packages, but the Install button is greyed out.
This is almost trivial, but is there a way to get nicer cards?
I want to set the default colours for the vttys but can't seem to find where the defaults are kept, I can set up the vtty as I like via setterm in .bashrc etc but as soon as I do an ls or vim on return the colours are reset to white on black, been googling this but can't find an answer, any ideas?
I have just upgraded my system (debian testing, a lot of the upgrade had to do with latex packages). Now some latex styles have disappeared. For instance, I used to have garamond fonts installed but now they have disappeared.I have re-installed the package tex-live-fonts-extra (which contains garamond, but the command usepackage{garamond}in my latex file always leads to the error message
ERROR: LaTeX Error: File `garamond.sty' not found.
I just installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu on my small 64GB SSD alongside my main drive for storage. I got everything set up just how I like it (customized clearlooks with Ubuntu Mono Light icons) the same as I have it on my laptop. I disabled all system sound effects. This morning, I wake up to it having a different icon set, and the menus having an identical grey scheme. In addition, the Ubuntu system sound effects are playing, even though in the settings it says they are disabled.I'm not really sure what's wrong! It's the same in both compiz and metacity. Here's a screenshot. Note how the boring old-style theme is applied in the update window and the menu at the top, yet the customizing themes window has the correct appearance for the buttons (funny coincidence)EDIT: I think I've narrowed it down to gnome-settings-daemon. When I try to initialize it via the terminal I get this:
** (gnome-settings-daemon:3852): WARNING **: Failed to acquire org.gnome.SettingsDaemon ** (gnome-settings-daemon:3852): WARNING **: Could not acquire name
I recently installed Ubuntu 11.04 and trying to learn the new Unity environment. Bibus is a reference manager which I used with great pleasure for sometime. It was perfect in terms of inserting and formating references to openoffice-writer.Now, with 11.04 Unity environment Bibus can insert references to Libreoffice-writer but can not change reference styles. Once I log out and re-enter with ubuntu-classic environment I see that Bibus is working perfectly in Gnome desktop of 11.04.In the Unity desktop I have to run Bibus as root to change styles and change reference formats. Why Bibus can not change styles and format references in Unity environment unless having root privileges?
I have installed restricted drivers and upgraded system software (I believe all during one session without a start), after restarting my computer the panel style changed to another (ugly) style. I have ensured that I restarted multiple times afterwards and that the system -> pref -> appearance setting is set to "Ambiance."
I have also tried:
Code: gconftool-2 --shutdown rm -rf ~/.gconf/apps/panel pkill gnome-panel and code....
I have a Dell M6500 w/ an Nvidia graphics card.
It could be noted that I have previously installed Ubuntu on this machine (for testing on another drive) and have upgraded (although possibly in piecemeal) without this problem happening. Any assistance would be appreciated, otherwise I'll likely reinstall as the time to do so has so far been less then trying to fix this problem.
Edit: Did some experimenting, reinstall system and installed the recommended NVidia restricted driver (from the system -> administration menu), I had a choice of "Version 173" and "Recommended," as soon as I did and restarted the retro styling returned, am going to try using the (presumedly) newer driver in a bit.
When i log into to a non root(user) mode, i am always greeted by a small terminal window before the desktop starts up. Also, after desktop starts a new window opens which displays the contents of my windows desktop.
I am unable to stop this from happening. I am running Ubuntu 10.10(32 bit) along with Windows 7(64 bit) on different partitions.
How do I uninstall unwanted applications? Is there a log of all installed applications? When I ran setup and chose my packages, for KDE, and I am sure others the options came in bundles, ie KDEbase-version... Is there a way to see all package contents to remove individual programs?
Seeing this on two systems that went through F13-F14 upgrade.
version: gnome-applets-2.32.0-1.fc14.x86_64
symptom: via right click on a gnome panel, perform "add to panel" and choose Dwell Click. Gnome panel bites the dust with SIGSEGV at this point, restarts, and then you've got dwell click on the panel.
Anyone else seeing this, and better yet, have a solution?
install the KDE desktop on fedora 12. i know there exists a fedora 12 KDE version but i have the gnome version and i dont want to format my computer again
is there some wiki page on GNOME or Fedora that list which graphics cards work without problems on Fedora 15 with GNOME Shell? I have tried 3 older cards and they all failed, so I would like to share this info with others so people know which cards to avoid if they want to use full features of GNOME 3 via GNOME Shell.
I have successfully build .deb im my box and it is running well. But during the debuild process I got followingdpkg-shlibdeps: warning: dependency on libatk-1.0.so.0 could be avoided if "debian/retrovol/usr/bin/retrovol" were not uselessly linked against it (they use none of its symbols).
dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: dependency on libdl.so.2 could be avoided if "debian/retrovol/usr/bin/retrovol" were
