Sep 30, 2010I'm trying to change the styles in non-KDE apps like Synaptic. Trying to do away with the think borders within the app box. I downloaded a bunch of GTK files and the GTK icon shows in the System Settings, but can't get the styles to change even after restarting KDE.

Jul 30, 2015I have a multi-platform QT4 application and I'm trying to make it run on Debian 7.x. In this app I'm creating 2 QSystemTrayIcon 's and when I run this application on Debian 7.8 with Gnome 3 disabled both tray icons show up nicely in the notification area in the top-right panel. However when I have Gnome 3 enabled nothing shows up in the top-right panel and the tray icon shows up in the (hidden) bottom panel, but the problem is only the first one of my 2 tray icons shows up - the other one is lost.
I'd like to ask, whether it is by design so, that on Gnome 3+Debian 7.8 there can be only one tray icon per application? Or is it some issue with Qt? I tried also Ubuntu 14.04 with Gnome 3 and there both tray icons showed up nicely in the top-right panel.

Jul 31, 2015I installed debian 8.1, network install on a ThinkPad T60. When I right click the Desktop, I don't get "Create New -> link to application" and other links. In mint 17.1, I get a Menu with all links. I want to create a link to seamonkey with an icon on desktop.

Jun 30, 2015Seems like such an unbelievably basic question, but a day of google searches as well as directly on this site with key word combinations like "jessie gnome application launch" or "jessie gnome launcher" has only yielded one remark somewhere that the only way to get any kind of custom application launcher working on a gnome 3.14 desktop is to copy an already existing one from an older gnome setup, such as Wheezy.
I know gnome is a bit limited compared to many other desktops, but besides this I consider gnome in Jessie very good and just can't believe the ability to customize application launchers could have really been made completely impossible to do. This single omission alone would make gnome extremely lame in my view, so I sure hope that is not in fact the way it is.
Debian Multimedia :: Require A Calendar Application For Fluxbox
Jun 2, 2010On xfce I really liked orage, however on fluxbox I don't want to install all its dependencies (xfce4-gui, xfce4panel, +++) for just a calendar. So, I'm looking for a light calendar app that will allow me to store appointments. Ideally it would integrate nicely with fluxbox, so either launchable by clicking on the clock, or else mapped transparently onto the desktop just like conky. If it could work with conky that would be pretty ideal as well, and it must have the ability to send notifications (either by sound or screen) about upcoming appointments, reminders, etc.
I've seen xcalendar mentioned on these forums, but it doesn't seem to be in the repos anymore (squeeze). Also rainlender, though I don't like that it's not in the repos and has pro/free versions. Sunbird is an option, but kind of large and clunky for what I'll be using it for. Right now I'm thinking gdeskcal is my best bet, but I'm hoping others will have better ideas. If gdeskcal fails to impress, I may have no choice but to go with sunbird (aka iceowl) and perhaps use conky to display the calendar on the desktop, and make it launchable from clicking the clock on fluxbox. My mail application is claws, which has some limited vlcalendar functionality.

Jul 5, 2015I created a bash script which when executed as a desktop application modifies its own application icon. This is done my altering the Icon= line in the application's .desktop file.
Here is a gif of the application in action: [URL] ..... As you can tell, there is an approximately two second delay before the icon changes. I was wondering if there was a way of making the icon change immediately.

Jan 16, 2015I have a web server that hosts multiple websites. Am looking for an application that can be run on my workstation and makes it possible to watch Apache logs live.
It should have a tabbed interface. When I launch the application, it has to connect to my server and should automatically open all access.log and error.log files and display all changes in real time (similar to tail -f command).
Does anything like this exist?
I'm tired of logging in many times in Konsole and executing tail -f commands to see parallel logs.
Software :: DocBook Looking For Different Styles
Jul 25, 2010I'm completely new to DocBook, but am writing a few things I'd like to use it for. I'm looking to get away from the standard stylesheet (I'm using Ubuntu, and at the moment I use /usr/share/docbook-utils/docbook-utils.dsl). Is there anywhere I can browse different ones on the web to find one I like, that formats to HTML and PS/PDF?Am I even going about this in the right way? As much as I try and learn, I just can't fit it into my head how everything fits together with DocBook.

May 1, 2011There is a very small thing which needs to be fixed in 11.04. In AisleRiot Solitaire the cards are ugly. In View -> Card styles -> Install card themes it asks me if I want to install additional software packages, but the Install button is greyed out.
This is almost trivial, but is there a way to get nicer cards?

Aug 8, 2010I want to set the default colours for the vttys but can't seem to find where the defaults are kept, I can set up the vtty as I like via setterm in .bashrc etc but as soon as I do an ls or vim on return the colours are reset to white on black, been googling this but can't find an answer, any ideas?

Jan 2, 2011I just installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu on my small 64GB SSD alongside my main drive for storage. I got everything set up just how I like it (customized clearlooks with Ubuntu Mono Light icons) the same as I have it on my laptop. I disabled all system sound effects.This morning, I wake up to it having a different icon set, and the menus having an identical grey scheme. In addition, the Ubuntu system sound effects are playing, even though in the settings it says they are disabled.I'm not really sure what's wrong! It's the same in both compiz and metacity.Here's a screenshot. Note how the boring old-style theme is applied in the update window and the menu at the top, yet the customizing themes window has the correct appearance for the buttons (funny coincidence)EDIT: I think I've narrowed it down to gnome-settings-daemon. When I try to initialize it via the terminal I get this:

It was perfect in terms of inserting and formating references to openoffice-writer.Now, with 11.04 Unity environment Bibus can insert references to Libreoffice-writer but can not change reference styles. Once I log out and re-enter with ubuntu-classic environment I see that Bibus is working perfectly in Gnome desktop of 11.04.In the Unity desktop I have to run Bibus as root to change styles and change reference formats.Why Bibus can not change styles and format references in Unity environment unless having root privileges?

Jan 29, 2011I have installed restricted drivers and upgraded system software (I believe all during one session without a start), after restarting my computer the panel style changed to another (ugly) style. I have ensured that I restarted multiple times afterwards and that the system -> pref -> appearance setting is set to "Ambiance."
I have also tried:

I have a Dell M6500 w/ an Nvidia graphics card.
It could be noted that I have previously installed Ubuntu on this machine (for testing on another drive) and have upgraded (although possibly in piecemeal) without this problem happening. Any assistance would be appreciated, otherwise I'll likely reinstall as the time to do so has so far been less then trying to fix this problem.
Edit: Did some experimenting, reinstall system and installed the recommended NVidia restricted driver (from the system -> administration menu), I had a choice of "Version 173" and "Recommended," as soon as I did and restarted the retro styling returned, am going to try using the (presumedly) newer driver in a bit.

Feb 3, 2010I'm running Amarok 1.4 and I frequently need to restart the sound daemon. As far as I can tell; no applications are using it at the time, but alsa cycles through my playlist without playing anything (i.e. loads track, doesn't play it, moves to the next track, so on and so forth).
I'm pretty sure this would have something to do with another process using the sndcard. I just don't know which one so I can kill it and troubleshoot why it's doing it.

Oct 28, 2010I have two sound cards in my computer. OpenSuSE 11.3 recognizes them both without a problem, and I can play sound through each of them. Is it possible to set one application to use one sound card simultaneously with another sound card routing to a different application? That would be sweet. For example, I have my surround speakers plugged into one sound card, so I can provide music for the whole room, and have my PC speakers next to the monitor playing a movie.
