Ubuntu :: Appearance Preferences Override Firefox Tango Theme

Mar 6, 2011

I just upgraded to ubuntu 10.04 from 9.10, and one of the first things I did was to find a nice desktop theme. I tried several from gnome-look.org and eventually settled on one called "the days of grace"

Anyway, somewhere along the way, while trying out themes, I used a script provided by a theme author which installed the theme automatically, which had undesirable results. I don't remember the theme that did this, so I'll just call it theme x. The theme x script somehow made firefox use theme x instead of the default firefox "tango" theme, and now the tango theme is not available, because the theme x theme supersedes it.

The theme x does not show up in ubuntu's appearance preferences, but somehow it looks to be linked to the theme I chose, "the days of grace." I can switch to a default ubuntu theme (Ambiance, Radiance, etc.) and I have my firefox tango theme back.

Does anyone know how I can delete this theme x theme, and get back the tango firefox theme?

Ubuntu :: Inconsistency Of Icon Emblems When Using Custom Icon Theme?

Feb 16, 2011

I have recently installed Faenza icon theme and just began to notice the inconsistency of icon emblems being displayed by compiz.Attached image shows the emblems of Chromium, Nautilus and Comix are that of the default icons, while Empathy andCompizConfigSettingsManager displayed the custom icon correctly. The dock displays all apps' icons correctly though. The issue does not occur exclusively to Application Switcher (Alt+Tab), it also occurs with Scale (Super+W), Shift Switcher (Super+Tab).

Ubuntu :: Change An Icon In Icon Theme?

Jul 24, 2010

I have d/l and am using an icon theme I got from gnome-look. I like all the icons except for a few, specifically the trash, and would like to change them but I can't figure out how. I d/l an empty and full trash icon. I looked in the /home/username/.icons/themename folder and found the two trash icons that came with the theme (they were in ~/.icons/themename/scalable/places). Changed the names of the ones I d/l and replaced those current ones with them.how to do this? I would also like to change the Menu Bar icon back to the gnome foot.

Slackware :: Is Distrowatch's Description Of Slackware Fair?

May 22, 2010

I was browsing Distrowatch and reading the various distro descriptions. Of course it mentions the text installer (although I really think it can be called graphical, just not X) and the vanilla packages, etc. But then I got to the last paragraph which says:Quote:

While this philosophy of simplicity has its fans, the fact is that in today's world, Slackware Linux is increasingly becoming a "core system" upon which new, custom solutions are built, rather than a complete distribution with a wide variety of supported software. The only exception is the server market, where Slackware remains popular, though even here, the distribution's complex upgrade procedure and lack of officially supported automated tools for security updates makes it increasingly uncompetitive. Slackware's conservative attitude towards the system's base components means that it requires much manual post-installation work before it can be tuned into a modern desktop system.

I know that many of these things are the typical idea of slackware, but I was wondering if other Slackers felt it was a fair assessment. I run current and with slackpkg I don't find upgrading to be difficult in the least and while there is of course some configuration to be done, I don't find it to be particularly heavy. I mean the common extra configuration I can think of is basically alsamixer/alsactl and changing inittab if you want a graphical login. The rest is just customization which I would do with any other distro, I'd just have to use distro-specific tools to do it instead of the vanilla "most of these things will work with most other distro" that Slack uses.

Now to be fair, I'm new to linux (9 months) and started using Slackware with 13 after first using Mandriva and Ubuntu for a few months, so maybe I'm missing some history. But I was wondering if people that actually use Slackware find the quoted bit to be fair.

Slackware :: Rethinking The Description During Install?

Mar 16, 2011

Back in the days of slow machines, displaying the package description during an install provided for some reading to break up the boredom (if one was inspired to sit there and watch it do the install). Now days, the descriptions just fly by, several a second most of the time (unless doing things manually). Do we really need this anymore? It's unreadable.

I'd rather see a list of packages being installed scroll by, one package name per line (with size info). Even that might get hard to read during the buzz of small packages being installed causing rapid scrolls.

Slackware :: How To Install Extras/source/grub Properly

Feb 4, 2011

I copied the extras/source/grub folder to my home folder.

I did: ./grub.SlackBuild as su.

The install went on for a long time and I saw warnings etc flash by.

I don't know if it has installed properly. I tried it before and it destroyed my grub menu. I managed to recover grub through LMDE and now, I am back for more!

Is there any way to tell if this app is installed properly before I run grubconfig?

OpenSUSE :: Changing GTK And Icon Theme In Gnome3?

Apr 8, 2011

I'm slowly getting used to Gnome 3 and trying to give it a chance. After a few oddities (like it swallowing my Gnome Shell and Tilda invocations because I use Super in them) then I think I'm slowly getting used to it. There are still some things I miss from Compiz, but it has potential and I like some bits (the notifications and dialogs).I don't know what got upgraded, but my themes seemed to be working before yet today I've got the default Sonar rather than my darker Sonar theme with a fixed Chromium style. I've managed to change the titlebar theme, but I can't change the GTK theme or the icon theme.

Running "gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface icon-theme" reports "Tango-green", but I still have the default icon theme and using Appearances only partially works.Running "gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme" reports "SonarLighter" (the menu bar is lighter to match the Uniq theme) but I'm definitely seeing Sonar.I've tried gnome-tweak-tool from someone's OBS, but various dependencies seem to be missing (first it bails with the wrong GI version, then I updated some other bits and tried again, but even after switching a dozen or more packages then it never started).

Debian :: Blueman-applet Not Using Current Icon Theme

Jul 16, 2015

I have the Faenza Icon Theme installed, but it seems blueman-applet could care less. The applet's icon does change to use the Bluetooth application icon, but when it is active or disabled, it uses the icons in /usr/share/icons/hicolor/24/status/.

Part of the problem may be that Faenza has the status icon named bluetooth-active/bluetooth-disabled instead of blueman-active/blueman disabled. However, even if I rename these in /usr/share/icons/Faenza/24/status/, nothing changes. If I copy the icons into the first location mentioned and rename them, it does work. I don't have a problem doing this, but if I ever change themes, I'll have to do it again. Anyway I can make it use the icon theme?

Fedora :: Update To F14 Breaks Gnome Icon Theme / Why Is So?

Nov 3, 2010

After I had upgraded the system to Fedora 14, the icons for pretty much everything except for programs and plain text files in gnome theme (and every other theme that shares them) became inaccessible - they are replaced by a standard icon that appears when no other is found. Other themes, that share no icon with gnome (tango, gnome-colors, etc.), work correctly. I'm using Xfce desktop.

I've deleted icon-theme.cache, but it did nothing.

Any suggestions, what may be causing this?

OpenSUSE :: Firefox Icon Not Matching Theme Icons?

Oct 3, 2010

how to change this icon to match the theme. Seems to be to only application so far that has not picked up the correct icon. The quick launch icon is correct, but not the task manager icon. It seems to be picking it up from some other location before using the one in the theme file.

Under root/usr/lib/firefox there are some default icons. Also under root/usr/share/pixmaps there are a couple icons for firefox. All these match the one pictured. The icon under root/usr/share/apps is the correct one for the theme. These are the only locations that I am aware of with exception of the theme file.

Would renaming the icons under lib/firefox and share/pixmaps force it to use the themed icon?

It seems that this firefox icon is a problem with any icon theme that I use.
