Jul 23, 2010I just installed conky. What is the best way to get it to start when X loads? I am using KDE.

View 10 Replies View Relatedmy Conky needed the Coretemp, and a friend of LQ told me to run modprobe, and it works greate! no every time I start my system, I need to run the modprobe to add the module to Kernel. How can I put the coretemp to start every startup? (I think there is somenthing to do with a file on the rc.module at /etc/rc.d/, but I'm afraid to do something stupid...) I want to make the conky running after start of the system. How can I do this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have conky installed and set up as a startup application, however everytime I log out and back in conky creates itself as a new window:
How can I get conky to start normally without having to do a manual restart everytime I login?
I use Opensuse 11 with fvwm. How can I get conky start automatically when I start fvwm?
I setup the conky under fvwm session for my Opensuse 11 but it won't start automatically. I am wondering how to write some kind of scripts to force it to start automatically and with a delay about 10 seconds after fvwm starts.
Every time i start Ubuntu, Firefox loads as soon as i log in. I've checked the list of start-up applications and it's not there, the option to automatically remember open applications is unchecked in both startup application settings and Ubuntu tweak. Is there some other place that has this setting or any setting that would cause Firefox to load on boot? Is there a setting in Firefox I'm missing?Basically how do i stop this from happening?
View 8 Replies View RelatedUbuntu One wont start first time , it loads in the taskbar but never comes up.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI need one, cause I know this is "So easy, a cave-man could do it" (and I can't) yikes.
I need a start up script to execute AFTER my desktop loads. It's for display resolution. I've added the same script in 3 places, and all will execute, but not until I do it manually. It's being over-written by another function...
1 script in /etc/gdm/Init/Default (as per Wiki page, which has a syntax error I found yesterday):
Quote:
#!/bin/sh
# Stolen from the debian kdm setup, aren't I sneaky
# Plus a lot of fun stuff added
# -George
[Code]....
Can I create a run level 7, like rc7.d, that will execute after the desktop loads (and everything else)? I symlinked the second script to level 5 rd5.d, and it didn't go through. I haven't tried level 6.
I recently got a new hard drive for my notebook, and was playing a little with it taking advantage of the fact that my working system is intact on my old drive. So, I installed Slackware 13.0, and ran slackpkg to get -current. Everything runs fine, except for my wireless network.
With slack13 I was using the broadcom-sta driver (wl module) and it was working perfectly. In -current I can build the wl module, and load it, but it will do nothing. The interface (eth1 in 13.0) is not created, the card is not registered, and actually nothing is logged to /var/log/messages by the wl module itself. When I load it I only get a few lines from a module it loads (ieee something, for wireless cryptography I think), but the WiFi LED is off, and it does not reacts to the keyboard (Fn-F2 is supposed to switch the wifi off and on). Basically it seems like it is actually doing *nothing*, or that maybe there is something I need to do to activate it.
The other option is b43 with b43-fwcutter. I tried it, it worked for a few minutes before dying on me saying that it can't use DMA with my device, and that I need to reconfigure the kernel to use PIO instead. And it also behaved in a weird way. The interface was not created immediately (wlan0) and I had to play with the iwconfig command to bring it up (although I don't actually remember what exactly I did to do it). Also it looks like it takes a few minutes to load the firmware, is not immediate. The third thing i got was rfkill messages in the output of dmesg, reacting to my keyboard (logging stuff like "the radio thinghy is ENABLED or DISABLED) when I tried to bring wifi up, but without actually switching the LED on.
I don't really know what is wrong. I am thinking on building my own kernel with the option b43 suggests, but before I'd like to know why wl is failing. I could very well go back to Slack13, but staying with an old kernel version due to silly hardware issues does not seems like the right choice.
I think I must say as well that the wifi is working flawless with Windows Vista and Slackware 13.
If I do try to start a PXE Installation, the PXE Bootsystem loads the kernel, and
I guess it trys to start to load the initrd, but then it froze, i need to reset the computer. On the TFTP Server (aftp) I see that it trys to resend the initrd files and runs into a time out.
Ive the problem on 2 maschines, both with the same Motherboard (ASUS M4N78).
And the PXEinstallation of OpenSuSE 11.3 works fine, without any problems.
I have a problem with 'Starting File Manager' completeley filling my taskbar on startup. There could be 100 of them for all I know, as the taskbar ends up dividing into tiny slices for each. How do I find out what is causing this? Is there a log file I can check or some way to repair ubuntu off the Live CD?Recently installed some updates. Last night tried reinstalling Nautilus and Gnome (did that with commands from Ctrl Alt F1 ) but that has not helped.I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (64bit)Dell Inspiron 530I'm no Ubuntu / Linux expert, but I can try to find any info / logs required
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'v installed conky (from the repo) on my Fedora 12 x64 box, and i'm very pleased with it. However I can't get it to start at login.I'v tried shell scripts that include a delay (i tried delays of up to 30 secconds), and there is no change.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAs the title implies, I have fluxbox and conky running in Karmic. The problem is getting conky to start at startup. Below is my ~/.fluxbox/startup file. I have searched and tried everything I have found to get it to work. Conky works beautifully when I run it manually. Anyway, here is my startup file:
Code:
#!/bin/sh
xmodmap "/home/doug/.Xmodmap"
unclutter -idle 2 &
conky &
exec fluxbox -log "/home/doug/.fluxbox/log"
Lines added before and after the conky line run perfectly. Unclutter runs, but no conky.
It's only been a couple of days since I formatted my toshiba laptop's hard drive (i was running fedora without significant problems) and installed slackware 13.1 32bit. I did a network install because the dvd drive is not functioning properly. everything installed fine with the hugesmp kernel, but I started not being able to boot the laptop every single time I wanted to (especially after a reboot but also after a power up).
my observations:
-the pc might freeze in the very first toshiba logo screen (where you are prompted to press F2 to enter BIOS)
-or it might freeze when I get the lilo boot loader (not even the count down to choose kernel starts) - but i CAN use the arrows and press 'enter' to choose to load a kernel manually
-or just after it loads the kernel and the bios checks
-or during boot after in loads ACPI thermal zone
-or a little later during boot when the dhcpcd if broadcasting for a dhcp lease.
the first 3 are freezes, the last 2 are resets. especially if i need to reboot (or get the resets of the 2 last case), I will surely get stack in one of the first 3 cases afterwards! i have observed that rarely, after such a reset, if it actually gets stack in the toshiba logo, i might be able - pressing the poiwer buttonj repeatedly to actually overcome the 'freezing' there at which time i'll get to the lilo loader (the count down timer will not.. count down), but i can press 'enter' and I will finally get stack after loading the kernel and bios checks
So I have to powerdown the laptop and start all over again. Sometimes the whole boot process will proceed smoothly. and i'll get to a login prompt, and when I do I can keep the laptop up and running for virtually ever. that is it doesn't seem to be slackware related... Hwever the problems started after I installed slackware. I didn't have any problem with the fedora installation and i wonder if it has something to do with the network boot.... additional note, with feodra i didn't have a problem restarting or shutting down the laptop. now if i restart, the pc will go through the process of shutting down, but it will never actually reboot - i'll have to do it manually..
how do I make conky wait to start? I have read the post how to do it but when I try it says file not found.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI see the device in dmesg. On the macbook pro 6,1 it gets issued IRQ 19 and loads sata_sil24 and ata_piix correctly, however on the 5,1 and 5,2 macbook pro it only loads sata_sil24 and gets IRQ 24. Is there anyway to specify the IRQ assigned to the device via the kernel (is it an IRQ conflict or device not working on IRQ24)? MacBook Pro uses an EFI so not traditional bios where I can set irqs. Am I looking in the right direction as to the cause of my problem? Slackware 13.1 with standard linux kernel 2.6.35.8

I recently upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 and I have noticed an increase in loading time when logging in.What use to take less then 1 sec is now taking 3-4. It sometimes is able to start conky but most of the time it doesn't. When I manual run it after login in it has no problems starting. When I start a session with 9.04 I noticed it would go straight to fluxbox it would then take a few seconds to load conky and pidgin. When starting a session with 9.10 the loading seems to happen before the login manager passes control to fluxbox. When the login manager is finished pidgin is signed and ready, there is no more loading to be done.
Would removing the login manager and starting a session from the terminal be advisable? I only use fluxbox.
I have been wanting conky to run at start up... fortunately I got that part done (I am very new) but after that, even though my conky was not configured to stand on top of my applications it would, and I didn't want that so I added some more code, and now it disappears if I click over it, it is still running, just not visible.
Here is my code...
I'm trying to install conky on my Slackware. I've downloaded the files from slackbuilds.org (both conky and lua). I've compiled and installed lua writing "make linux" and "sudo make install", but when I'm trying to compile conky, it says:

So, I get a script on the internet, and get this line error:

I run my conky as one bar at the top of the screen (Ratpoison). It is frustrating when % values jump between 0->10% for example and then the entire bar shifts. How can I make it display 000% 010% 100%?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI thought I would try out Eric's KDE 4.5.1 and Robby's new Xorg pacakges. The upgrade went off with out a hitch, but now when I try to launch conky I get
conky: error while loading shared libraries: libmowgli.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
So I rebuilt conky and reinstalled libmowgli ran ldconfig but I still get the error.
I am trying to build conky from SlackBuilds.org using sbopkg, but the build fails every single time. It may be worth noting that I am trying to build with extra options, namely --disable-x11 --disable-xdamage --disable-own-window --disable-xft.
This is so I can have a cli-only conky that I can pipe to my status bar. This has worked in the past, but now the build is failing with a seemingly unrelated error.
It states:
Code:
At the end of the build. I tried removing the option --enable-audacious, but that only resulted in an error which complained that yet another option (--enable-rss=yes) was a "Command not found". This continues as I remove options. I would like to keep many of those options active as I have a need for certain features.
This is a copy of the SlackBuild being used:
Code:
I have a full install of Slackware64 v13.1, so audacious is installed. I don't know what else could be going wrong, and I don't know why this worked in the past.
Doing some research I found that in conky 1.8.1 there is support for nvidia using libxnvctrl. I am trying to compile it but I am missing libxnvctrl. Does any body know where I can get it?
View 5 Replies View RelatedThis works on my Slackware64 13.1 using KDE 4.4.4, Conky version 1.8.0. This is a simple .conkyrc tweak that doesn't need feh, it doesn't have the distracting faun shadow-border and most importantly, it doesn't disappear when you click your desktop (On my system anyway). These are the relevant sections to edit:
Code:
own_window_colour black
own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager
own_window_transparent yes
own_window_argb_130
own_window_type override
own_window yes
I found that getting rid of the own_window_argb_values yes suggested in other fixes and replacing it with a specific alpha and then changing window type to override solved all my issues. I've noticed no bugs or strange happenings. This seems to be a common problem with a lot of workaround solutions. I think this is a much more elegant way. Edit: Not persistant... After 2 reboots it's back to normal.
