Ubuntu :: Conky At Startup - Has Wrong Window Setting

May 17, 2011

I have conky running a simple script on my Ubuntu 11.04 install. Running conky from using ALT-F2 is fine, but I have have conky added to the startup list, and when it runs from this, the conky window is different (ie not integrated with desktop layer). It has some shadowing around the edge and it seems to be on a layer other than the desktop. In addition to this, it stops running after a short while. I then run conky from ALT-F2 again and it's appears as I want, and stays there all day. I have included what I think is the relevant code below from my conkyrc. Has anyone had similar issues with a suitable way to resolve the problem?

Code:
own_window yes
own_window_transparent yes
own_window_type override
#own_window_type desktop
#own_window_type normal
#
own_window_type conky
own_window_class Conky

OpenSUSE :: 11.3 - Active Window Replaced By 4 Smaller

Dec 5, 2010

I like openSUSE 11.3 very much. When I move the mouse pointer to the upper left corner of the screen, my active window is immediately replaced by 4, smaller windows (I think that at the beginning I had a cube). I'm afraid this gobbles up a lot of memory and henceforth slows down my computer. Is it possible to have only one window "active" at the time? If I want, say a terminal screen, I can always activate it via the "Computer" button?

Ubuntu :: Set So New Program Doesn't Become Active Window?

Feb 5, 2011

It drives me craxzy, and I can't find anything I can do about it.When I start a new app--say FireFox, and I return to the window I was in, as soon as each window loads it insists that IT should become the active window. This is a general issue with me--all window type OS's seem to do this, but what I want (and THAT is supposed to be what the computer will do 4 me--what I want!No matter what, I want the active window to remain the active window regardless of what other windows are doing--including newly opening windows. If I want to do something with a new window, I'll go there on my own.I'm often writing and want to research something so will open a browser window, but it takes time for the programs to load & during that time I usually want to continue with whatever I was doing until I finish the thought. As is, I'm reading or typing along, and suddenly the machine pops me into the newly opened window--a real pain,

Of course, if I could tell it to either become active or not depending upon how I call the program, or which program or which program is active, that would be perfect.I'm not sure where the fix might be, but since it's a desktop intee problem, I'm posting it hereBaring a solution, any suggestions as to where that kind of action originates

Ubuntu :: Make Active Window Appear Below Panel

Jun 26, 2011

So I was thinking of having my bottom panel just for harbouring active windows. I thought also to uncheck expand so it will grow larger when more windows are active. All of which is not a problem. But there's one thing stopping me from doing this.

Currently the active window stops when it reaches either panel.

[forgot to edit the green bar out. Ops. Ignore it.] So in either bottom corner nothing is displayed. How can I get the active window to go all the way to the bottom of the screen. Whilst the panel still appears above the active window? [Probably won't have transparent panel when doing this.]

Debian :: Fast Mouse Scroll Up / Down Changes Active Window

Aug 12, 2015

Fresh install of Debian 8.1, have not changed a single setting anywhere. Was scrolling in the web browser and noticed that if I scrolled up or down fast enough the active window changes. Using kde as the desktop environment. Also this has nothing to do with the browser as it happens with anything I have open. Heck trying to scroll in console and having a document open just flips between the two of them. Only way this does not happen is if I scroll slow enough.

General :: Active Window Fading When Mouse Leaves It?

Feb 5, 2011

I have been playing around with Ubuntu 10.10 for a few days. I had the functionality of when my mouse left the active window it would fade and any window behind it I moused over would come into focus. I liked this feature, but I broke it somehow. I was playing around with Compiz and all its cool animations, cube transitions, and other stuff. I am not sure if I did something in Compiz to break it or if that is unrelated.

OpenSUSE :: KDE - Change Default Blue Glow / Shadow On Active Window?

May 4, 2010

11.2
KDE 4.3.5
I have desktop effects on and window shadows enabled. The main windows don't seem to follow this, nor does any taskbar pop-ups when you hover your mouse over them. I even set the shadow settings to high/annoying settings but I only see it on context/right-click menus.

I don't like the blue shadow because it is too light, but I can't seem to find where to change it. This seems to also apply to in-active windows as far as the size of the shadow but with a gray shadow instead. Still, if the desktop effects were effecting this, then the shadows I see should be large. Plus, desktop effects only give you one color choice with it just being darker on the active window. How to change this?

Ubuntu :: Image Viewer Opened From Nautilus Doesn't Change Active Window / Fix It?

Sep 1, 2010

There's something very annoying about how Nautilus opens "image viewer" windows.
They open, I can see them, but when I press the keyboard, it's still Nautilus which gets the commands.
This is because Nautilus stays the active window!

Most annoyingly, when I want to have a quick look at an image, and then close it, Nautilus closes instead (Alt+F4).

Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
How to solve it?

Slackware :: Conky SlackBuild Fails - Every Single Time ?

Jul 1, 2010

I am trying to build conky from SlackBuilds.org using sbopkg, but the build fails every single time. It may be worth noting that I am trying to build with extra options, namely --disable-x11 --disable-xdamage --disable-own-window --disable-xft.

This is so I can have a cli-only conky that I can pipe to my status bar. This has worked in the past, but now the build is failing with a seemingly unrelated error.

It states:

Code:

At the end of the build. I tried removing the option --enable-audacious, but that only resulted in an error which complained that yet another option (--enable-rss=yes) was a "Command not found". This continues as I remove options. I would like to keep many of those options active as I have a need for certain features.

This is a copy of the SlackBuild being used:

Code:

I have a full install of Slackware64 v13.1, so audacious is installed. I don't know what else could be going wrong, and I don't know why this worked in the past.

Slackware :: SATA Requires 'active' Partition?

May 2, 2010

This thread is not so much looking for a 'solution' as it is looking for some 'reason why', as I now have it working.I have just inherited a Gateway 509GE - P4 3.0GHZ / 1GB RAM / 200GB SATA WD2000JD HD. It is circa 2005 hardware. The previous owner had tried to install Mandriva after windows began to choke on accumulated garbage, then tried to revert to XP, both of which appeared to install but neither would boot. He decided to just get a new box and gave me this one.I ran Memtest86 and found a bad DIMM and replaced it.

I repartitioned and formatted, a single ext4 root partition plus 2GB for swap. I completely removed existing partitions including the hidden M$ restore partition and checked disk - all using Gparted Live CD.I put a full Slackware 13 on it, installed with LILO to MBR, rebooted... nothing... "No bootable device found".I booted to install CD and played with Gparted Live CD and everything was there and LILO configured correctly...I tried several times and looked at MBR sector directly - all OK as far as I could tell.

Long story short - as far as I can tell after trying a few things, I finally set the 'active' flag on the extended partition (sda1) and it now boots. But Linux does not care whether a partition is active and I have several boxes - including another with SATA drive that do not have any 'active' partitions. So I conclude this must be a BIOS thing looking for an active partition, but see nothing settable in the BIOS config (in fact very little useful in this machine's BIOS config).Anyway, it is now working but I would like to solicit any useful comments from others. Is it a Gateway thing? (This is my only Gateway box). Is it an SATA thing? Anyone else had to set a Linux partition active to boot
