I have been wanting conky to run at start up... fortunately I got that part done (I am very new) but after that, even though my conky was not configured to stand on top of my applications it would, and I didn't want that so I added some more code, and now it disappears if I click over it, it is still running, just not visible.

I have conky installed and set up as a startup application, however everytime I log out and back in conky creates itself as a new window:
How can I get conky to start normally without having to do a manual restart everytime I login?
This problem has been there since I upgraded to FC12 from FC11 (I use Gnome). There are two applications that launch automaticaly when I logon:A nautilus window pointed at computer:////RythmBox minimized to notification panel.And they aren't in System/preferences/startup applications

I setup the conky under fvwm session for my Opensuse 11 but it won't start automatically. I am wondering how to write some kind of scripts to force it to start automatically and with a delay about 10 seconds after fvwm starts.

Yesterday, I tried to get two monitors working by editing xorg.conf. When it failed, I tried using my old xorg.conf, but that didn't work either. dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg did not work (it literally did nothing). Uninstalling and re-installing xserver-xorg did not work.So now I have zero working monitors instead of two. Xorg.0.log says something about "Screen was found, but doesn't work with existing setup." Anyway, I am less concern with the specific problem I am having than with the general way to fix problems with X. I read somewhere that dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg doesn't work anymore, but I haven't figured out what I'm supposed to use in place of it when X won't start.
View 14 Replies View RelatedBasically im trying to setup a dynamic vlan setup with my Cisco 2950 switch. I understand that freeradius has support for vmps and i'm wanting to use this. (as i'd also use the radius server for authentication for my squid proxy server)
But i have no idea where to start to get this configured. Right now i've got the freeradius package installed and i've done a bit of google'ing and i cant seem to find much about vmps and freeradius.
As the title implies, I have fluxbox and conky running in Karmic. The problem is getting conky to start at startup. Below is my ~/.fluxbox/startup file. I have searched and tried everything I have found to get it to work. Conky works beautifully when I run it manually. Anyway, here is my startup file:

Lines added before and after the conky line run perfectly. Unclutter runs, but no conky.
how do I make conky wait to start? I have read the post how to do it but when I try it says file not found.

I recently upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 and I have noticed an increase in loading time when logging in.What use to take less then 1 sec is now taking 3-4. It sometimes is able to start conky but most of the time it doesn't. When I manual run it after login in it has no problems starting.When I start a session with 9.04 I noticed it would go straight to fluxbox it would then take a few seconds to load conky and pidgin. When starting a session with 9.10 the loading seems to happen before the login manager passes control to fluxbox. When the login manager is finished pidgin is signed and ready, there is no more loading to be done.
Would removing the login manager and starting a session from the terminal be advisable? I only use fluxbox.
I just installed conky. What is the best way to get it to start when X loads? I am using KDE.

View 10 Replies View Relatedmy Conky needed the Coretemp, and a friend of LQ told me to run modprobe, and it works greate! no every time I start my system, I need to run the modprobe to add the module to Kernel. How can I put the coretemp to start every startup? (I think there is somenthing to do with a file on the rc.module at /etc/rc.d/, but I'm afraid to do something stupid...) I want to make the conky running after start of the system. How can I do this?

ever since i upgraded to 11.04 + gnome 3 the computer freezes to the point that the mouse doesnt move... for 30 seconds or so Also,if i put the computer to stand by, many times doesnt wake up properly, looks like the graphics are corrupted the mouse moves jamming until it fully freezes

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running the latest 10.10 and loving it, former Windows user I noticed just shortly after installing 10.4, that a few select applications would open and I would see "Starting (application name)" and then it would close and nothing else would happen. I suspect this is related to the fact that I recently took my Video Card out of my PC and Ubuntu is not detecting my Intel Chip?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have it set up to start my music player (RBox) and torrent program (Transmission) when I log in. The problem is all my data is set on my 1TB external hard drive, because my internal hard drive only has 80GBs of space. When I start up the programs open but the external hasn't had time to link the file directories which messes screws up my torrents into having to verify every time and my music has to "recalibrate" as it were.
This isn't an issue when I manually open the programs after a minute or so but what my question really comes down to is... Is there a way to delay an automatic startup? Say, run application 3 minutes into boot up?
I have a problem in my Ubuntu box. The applications defined in "Startup applications" fail to start. On another user's account, everything works fine. I think that's some configuration problem. Where are the data of of the startup applications stored? (i suppose it's .xx file that I could just delete to restore defaults)

If I click on an icon, I see a "Starting <Application>" icon on the task bar and then it dies. If I try running Alt-F2 and then typing the name of the application, nothing happens.
I'm trying to boot off of the Fedora 13 ISO disc... After the splash screen my monitor kicks into stand-by and never comes back on..
It doesn't happen when I boot off the hard drive into Windows Vista
It doesn't happen with my Back Track 3.0 Live disc either.
I tried switching from my video card to onboard video in cmos, but no good.
I tried removing the video card and plugging directly into the onboard video, but no good.
I tried starting with only one ram module at a time, no good.
I tried removing all other peripherals, no good.
I actually tried using another monitor too, but no good.
I tried booting the disc from a different drive as well, same thing.. code...
I am a new member on this site. I come from a Windows background and want to take the RedHat System Admin class. I want to install a Linux distribution on my stand alone (possible on a VM and an intel-based). My question is which one is better suited for me in preparing for the training. Should I install RHEL 5, Centos, Fedora or Ubuntu?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 and now if I leave my computer inactive for 5 minutes it goes black and then I have to enter my password. This is really annoying when I am streaming videos or watching movies. I have gone through all the admin and preferences and can't find how to turn this off or even how to change the time for going into stand-by. I would expect it to be in the power management but it isn't there.
