Ubuntu :: Booting But Doesn't Load The Startup GUI

I am still new to Ubuntu but I am having a problem when booting into Ubuntu 10.10. When I turn on the computer, after a few screens go by I see a boot manager giving me the option of:
1: Earlier Versions of Windows
2: Windows 7
3: Ubuntu
All OSes are working with no trouble. But when I try to boot into Ubuntu, I get another boot screen that states:
1: Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.35-28-generic
2: Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.35-28-generic (recovery mode)
3: Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.35-22-generic
4: Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.35-22-generic (recovery mode)
5: Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sda2)
When I choose 1 or 3, quite often it doesn't load up the startup GUI, it loads up some command line crap that I don't understand yet, where I type in reboot until I finally get Ubuntu loaded, this happens several times then finally works to the point I can log in. What could be going on, my install is inside Windows 7, not a full install if that matters. What is the difference between line 1 and 3?
I had Fedora 7 and Windows Vista dual booting on my computer. I just installed Fedora 10. When the live CD asked me where to install it, I chose "Remove all Linux Partitions and create default layout" The installation went perfectly, but now when reboot my computer, it boots directly into Fedora; GRUB does not load to ask me which OS I want to load. I know I did not overwrite Vista because I can still view my Vista files through Fedora. Here is my grub.conf file:

What do I need to do to make GRUB load again upon booting?
When i open one of the web browsers i use and try to load a web site it's taking to long to respond and sometimes it doesnt load the website at all. I have tried with firefox,epiphany,opera with all the same results. I am sure that this is not a problem with my internet connection because i don't have these problems with windows.Also the network manager connection settings are correct
I also tried choosing the old kernel(2.6.32.24) to boot from but no success.The problem is the same as if i am using the 2.6.32.25 kernel. The strange thing is that i can download packages from synaptic with full speed. Last think.I have recently downloaded the recommended updates from the update manager but i don't remember what are the things that where updated.
I've used this video conferencing web app on Windows 7 and it works perfectly. [URL] But I'm having flash problems. Flash doesn't load and the light at my webcam doesn't switch on at all. Things to note:Cheese works so I know my webcam in Ubuntu is functional. I've tried purging the flash plugin and reinstalling it. It doesn't work on Chrome and Firefox so it's definitely only a flash problem. I'm not using any medication so I know it isn't me just imagining it. When I turn on the computer, the Grub2 shows up and asks me to choose what OS to start. And from today on, whatever I choose, I end up with nothing. When Linux (Ubuntu) is chosen, then the blinking logo is shown (depicting it's loading) and after some time I can only see a black screen. In case when Windows is chosen, the black screen appears immediately. Kive cd works fine but don't know what I could do with it. A week ago I changed a booting order in my BIOS, so that GRUB2 is loading very fast now. Then I also chose: sudo dkpg-reconfigure grub-pc and selected the disk that had my boot partition. For a week or so it worked fine.
I edited some file in /etc and it stopped loading, but after upgrading to natty it loads again. I'm already starting X manually from /etc/event.d/tty7, but the X started from gdm is the one I see on the screen. I don't have a keyboard, so I can't switch to the console with the right X after startup. Is the only option to deinstall gdm, or is there a way to make it not start?

I've found mentions of this problem in Lucid Lynx, but this is a recent development for my system, since I've been running Ubuntu since Gutsy Gibbon.On start up my gdm theme/icons appear for a second, but by the time I've entered my keyring password the theme reverts to the system default (what Synaptic package manager looks like). It also does not load my start up programs Gnome-Do and Screenlets. My theme only appears if I go into the Appearances menu, and Gnome-Do only starts if I pick it from the Accessories menu (and I've gone into Gnome-Do's preferences and clicked on "start GNOME-DO at login"). About once in a blue moon it will load everything correctly.
Ubuntu 10.10 doesn't boot at all. The liveCD only boots once every like 30 attempts, installing from liveCD froze, but the Alternate CD worked and installed ubuntu. A little kinda like the liveCD, if I try like 30 times, it might manage to boot once in normal mode.That line keeps on repeating, the the xxx.xxx integer changes each time, and this goes on forever.I tried removing my floppy drive, but it didn't help.I tried to boot with fd0=noprobeThe one time it booted, when I restarted, it froze while trying to restart.
When I boot into Ubuntu with the Xfce desktop then proceed to terminal to check my IP it is always some random IP as provided via DHCP by the router. If I then go to the cmdline and type sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart then the wifi correctly connects to the router to the one static network address that I have specifically provided for it - as stated in my interfaces file. Why is this not happening on startup?
I cannot figure how to make a program start-up when Ubuntu boots. I want the "sudo firestarter" command to run so the firestarter icon appears in the panel.
I have Ubuntu 10.04 LTS installed on my HP Compaq Presario CQ60. Unfortunately the screen is busted & I'm using an external LCD. It boots directly onto the LCD, but the resolution is 800x600 by default, the only other option is 640x480. I'm assuming its using the VESA drivers for the graphics. I've managed to temporarily fix the resolution to 1024x768 by running the following in terminal for every session:

I've added a document to /etc/init.d so that it may be loaded on startup, but it does not seem to work.
I've running ubuntu 11.04 on my samsung 900x3A notebook and have a problem using the touchpad: I've configured my touchpad using "GPointing device settings", but everytime I reboot my system I've to start "GPointing device settings" manually to apply the settings for the current session. Is there a way to do this automatically?
Secondly I've the following problem: I cannot use "click and move" with my touchpad. For example, when I try to move a window around: Normally one would click the left button, hold it and move the window via touchpad. But every time I click the left button, any other movement with my touchpad is disabled. Is there a way around this?

I rebooted my computer and noticed the aoe module didn't loadad to do a modprobe aoe)What's the proper way to have this start at boot time? (rather than something like doing a modprobe aoe in the rc.local

i have a RAMdisk set up on my desktop with a hidden folder of stuff in it; but i want to know is it possible for me to set ubuntu to copy the files to another directory on shutdown, and copy back again on startup?
I am just new in Linux. Last week I install Linux Fedora12 into my notebook. The problem is sometime it come black screen when we want to start after booting. It also blank screen when want to tab to other properties in system. It is due to graphic card or else which the system used ATI Radeon.
I just installed Opensuse 11.2, and have come across the following error upon bootup: the display manager screen refuses to load, unless I type STARTX at the cli line. the error messages read: failed services in runlevel 5 /etc/init.d/xdm.orig start returned 6 earlyxdm postfix Further, I am unable to activate the xdm service under Yast. Has anyone else run across this error? Not sure how to resolve.
The program "qtconfig" does not load saved config on startup.
I just installed slackware-current from today's update (mirrored from ftp.slackware.com). The program "qtconfig" seems to have saved my changes to "~/.config/Trolltech.conf". However, after restarting qtconfig all options become the defaults.
I verified this in both the C locale and a UTF-8 locale.
Another computer of mine has a -current system from a few months ago and doesn't have this problem.
I am using Debian Squeeze, having installed it after Windows 7, each on a separate HD.
What happened was that Win7 became unbootable and, after failing to recover it, decided to live without it.
After a (happy) week of Windows-free life, I'm wondering if I can safely remove GRUB ("Grub-pc" and "Grub-common" are installed) since, as far as I know, GRUB is there only to boot/load more than one OS?
How do I control load order in KDE when booting? I would like to load networkmanager 1st and some widget like "remember the milk" last in order. I have a conflict between two ("Remember the milk" is bad coded - but only remote-syncing ToDo widget that I know). When RtM loads, if network is not ready, authentication fails. Then only way to connect it is to kill widget and place it again. whatever the reason, how do I control load order of apps/widgets in KDE?
i have a pc having OS Windows XP and Windows 7 installed (hd0,0 and hd0,1). Yesterday i installed Debian 6(hd0,5). But it doesn't show boot menu on startup. It automatically load GRUB and start loading Debian. While i m on GNOME or KDE i can see all the files of windows XP n 7. Is any way to rescue and boot with Windows??? And yah one more thing ... i also dont have menu.lst file in /boot/grub/.
I am running 64bit version of Fedora 12. After I logout or restart, I lose compiz function and I have to manually activate by "applications" - "system tools" and compusion fusion icon click.
I recently upgraded to php 5.2 using the testing repository. All went well except for one extension.
