What I'd like to have is alsa mixer enable microphone on plug-in and mute it on plug-out.
It's because when enabled it produces unwanted noise in the speakers, so I have to manually turn it off once I'm done with using skype and turn on again when I get a call. I'd like to automate that process.
I just upgraded and hated the left side vertical menu, it's just not my thing.I decided (regrettably) to deselect the Unity plug-in from with the Compiz Settings UI thinking it might get rid of it. It but, but unfortunately it rendered the desktop completely unusable and alll I have now is literally a desktop with no menu's or toolbars of any kind.Although I can login using the 'Classic' option I really think I should fix what I have broken (before reverting to 10.10).Is there any way to re-enable the Unity plugin via command line?I tried entering ccsm via terminal but nothing happens. I also tried entering configcompiz-settings-manager but again, a dead end.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI was trying to plug projector on my laptop with slackware 13.1 installed. The problem is that the projector stops showing whenever I start X. I can see everything starting from LILO loader, but whenever I type "startx" - bam, no signal or just a black screen on the wall. I try to switch to console mode with ctrl+alt+f1 - the view appears, switching back to X with ctrl+alt+f7 - view disappears. I am using awesome WM. I tried XFCE, but the result was the same. The automatic login is working but I still see the login box with options to select language. After a delay of few seconds, the system will automatically log me in. I don't know why I see the login window. Is there any way to bypass this window?

I have updated from 10.2 to 11.1. When 11.1 starts I get into the CLI rather than an automatic startup of KDE. I can login at the CLI, then type "startx" to start KDE. I know there is someway to automatically start KDE when the computer boots, but just can't seem to find it. Can someone point me in the right direction? With 10.2 I was able to automatically load KDE as myself as user and would like to have that again in 11.1.

I recently installed Slackware Linux 13.1 , and my Wireless is down. I've only installed 3 Linux disto's on my main laptop (Ubuntu 9.10 , 10.04 , and Crunchbang Linux 9.04 , just had Crunchbang), and they all had the same problem. In all three , I was able to enable Windows Wireless drivers and every thing worked. Now , I'm assuming I have to the same ting in Slackware? Sorry , but I have no idea what my wireless card is. But I know that my laptop is a Dell Insprion E1705. One last thing , I did ifconfig and that wlan0 is my Wi-Fi interface. I typed ifconfig wlan0 up to see if that was the problem. After I did that , I got and error message. Then I typed ifconfig wlan0 down to see if it was down and it made wlan0 down. I tried bringing it up again , but I got an error saying it couldn't find the device specified. Also , how do I install XFCE? I really don't like KDE for some reason and would like to install XFCE. I chose XFCE over GNOME (my favorite) because I want to try something new.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have started to write a SlackBuilds installer, similar in spirit to slackpkg. So far it is only about 100 lines of code and it can search for a package and install it automatically from slackbuilds.org. I doubt it will ever be as polished as slackpkg but it may be useful for some people. Maybe something like this already exists? If it does then I would like to check it out. If however this doesn't exist then I will most likely continue to develop my program. So far it is quite crude but it does install and search for packages.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI used Mumble 1.2.2 for a while on my Slackware 13.1 system without any problems. After some time (before 1.2.3 was released) it suddenly stopped working. A few days ago, I wiped my disk and re-installed Slackware 13.1. Compiling 1.2.3 worked. Running it just stopped with a "FUTEX"-Error. I searched the source code for futex (with "-i" parameter) and didn't found anything. There were matches in the compiled object files. So, it's probably something with Qt.
Then I compiled Mumble 1.2.2 and run it. Worked. But it didn't find my microphone. I can hear everybody else but I cannot talk. I tried every device but there is no sound. If I activate the microphone in alsaconfig I can hear myself, so the microphone seems to work. A few minutes ago, I compiled Mumble 1.2.3. You know what? It runs without any "FUTEX_WAIT" error. But, the microphone does not work.
Slackware 12.1 on Acer Aspire 5710 laptop.Intel HDA audio.There used to be a mixer control for microphone (or 'Mic'). A few months ago it vanished. The microphone works, but is at a fixed level and always with annoying playback through the speakers. I cannot change the recording level as there is no mixer control.

When I press the Power button it stops at Slackware's splash screen asking me to choose an OS, even tho' there is only one to choose from. I installed LILO to the MBR and that is also listed there as a possibility.
Is there a way to set Linux so it will simply load automatically?

View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen I started using Slackware I've been using USB headset. Everything ran perfectly fine. They got recognized, I could use all of it's functions and so on. Unfortunately volume control on them stopped working so I had to service them, and like in every third world country, yay I need to wait minimum three weeks just so they can press a button and say "Yup, they don't work".
I bought normal headset to use them while other one is getting fixed, and didn't expect any problems with them considering they are "old" technology, normal audio input and output.
Now problem is following, sound works fine but microphone doesn't. Once I managed to "fix" it by switching audio input from mic to something else and then back to mic, now even that doesn't work. Another... "problem" is if I leave my USB webcam plugged in while booting computer, there is no sound at all, ether on line ones or USB ones but I can easily solve that problem by unplugging webcam, rebooting and plugging it back in later.
Now everything ran fine until my computer shutdown while I was sleeping. Don't know why, but it started happening recently, don't see anything smart in logs so I assume its... something, read it could be cache, HDD, temperature and so on but since logs don't write down anything smart... will deal with it some other time.
When I talk I can actually hear myself on the headset, which probably means that they work. If I put mic boost all the way up, I can hear myself perfectly clear, but somehow... seems that that information just doesn't get to Slackware, well it gets somewhat considering that it reacts to me adjusting mic boost on KMix, but everything else... no.
Arecord doesn't record anything, TS register as microphone isn't plugged in at all, skype doesn't get any input ether.

One is running Linux Mint 8 and the other is running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10. The first time on either computer when I enable WebUI in the Deluge GUI it works fine. However if I ever disable it in plugins section I am subsequently unable to re-enable it (doesn't appear in the side panel again). Rebooting or reinstalling Deluge seems to have no effect.Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

I used to work in tech support and when a windows or OSx machine didn't connect properly on a LAN, disabling IPV6 was a common troubleshooting step.
