The automatic login is working but I still see the login box with options to select language. After a delay of few seconds, the system will automatically log me in. I don't know why I see the login window. Is there any way to bypass this window?
Is there any way o enable root login for Gnome in Fedora 14 ?
View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter checking "enable desktop effects" in KDE. I'm dropped to login screen and can't login. How can I enable desktop effects? (As a solution to not being able login after checking the box I found that deleting kwinrc in .kde/share/config/ should help and it worked, so this is not a problem).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI made my Fedora 13 box boot up automatically by adding the following to /etc/gdm/custom.conf

However, when it boots up it prompts me for my password so it can connect to my wireless network (I think it said something about not getting my user password at login). Is there anyway I can get it to remember this?
I would like to make this automatic because this will be a remote box that I will use as a file server, but it wont be turned on all the time. So I'll turn it on when I need it, but I'll need to connect to it remotely, so obviously it needs to be on the network.

I have a windows 7 ultimate host machine, installed oracle virtual box on it. Made a iso image to boot fr fedora. All this is fine when the installation is complete, it asks for reboot. Reboot done. Then I went to terminal. Did a SU - root to get into the root. Then I did a firstboot command to enter information. I created a user for myself and at the end rebooted the virtual box.
When it starts up, it does not show my user. It just shows "Automatic Login" and it logs in as Live System User. Even if I try to switch user then it gave me a authentication failure when I enter the credentials of the user which I created. If I try to create users manually using system administration, the user is lost after reboot. I have tried all possible steps...as instructed on the net.
I have just a one line script that runs telnet, and even thoughI've looked around I thought maybe someone could just tell me if there is a way to automatically login to the telnet server without having to type it in everytime. It's more of a hassle type of thing, but no matter what I've tried, I can't get anything to work.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI use ubuntu 10.04 in VirtualBox (upgrated from 09.10), host os is Win7.
3-4 days ago update of ubuntu required restart of Ubuntu (linux kernel was updated).
After 3 days (i.e. yesterday) I restarted the system. I found that flashlib in Chrome became to work unstable, some artefact appeared, and only scrolling down-up in browser allowed to update view of screen. I run update manager. It showed ~88Mb of updates for last 3 days.
After download of updates, apply changes was failed! I faced this first time (!). I remember message like "can not synchronize file /usr/share/..." or something like that.
I restarted ubuntu again. Now I could not login. System hangs after login. No Gnome menu appears etc.
I tried to fix issue using dpkg. I found that some lib (ure) related to OpenOffice was not assigned (version XXX required, but bersion XXXY found). dpkg offered to solve this by some combination. I did so. Then I run dpkg update, and no errors appeared.
Also I updated VirtualBox to version 3.2.4, updated VirualBox Additions via console terminal in ubuntu.
But still I can't fix problem with gdm/gnome.
dpkg-reconfigure gnome-*** did not help for me.
I tried to check logs, but I have not found something "interesting".
At the moment terminal is the only way to login.
I'm having this problem with Ubuntu 9.10, it has happened the three times I have tried to install it.
I have made a video showing the problem: [url]
After upgrading and rebooting, the flashing login screen appears and it is not possible to use the GDM.
I have tried to install KDM and it works, but when trying to load gnome I get the blinking bars again.
I have also tried this (and got the same problem); installing the Nvidia driver (manufacturer), installing the Nvidia driver (repositories) and installing no screen driver.
I think the problem is with GNOME, and not with the graphics card.
Now I have installed windows xp :-/, for the first time in a whole year, cause it is not possible for me to use Ubuntu 9.10 at all.
Recently I changes settings on Ubuntu Desktop and I choose gnome failsafe login, hence everything loads nice except when the user accounts is load it only appears the background and the terminal. Is there anyway to have the desktop back the way it was with the complete gui interface?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running maverick 10.10 with ATI drivers and two monitors. When I boot up both monitors are enabled and in multidisplay mode, showing the login widget and background, but when I log in the second monitor gets disabled and I have to use the ATI control panel to reconfigure to multidisplay. Not a major issue but rather annoying. This also happened with 10.04 LTS BTW. I was hoping for better behaviour in 10.10.
Is there a way to persist the ati control panel configuration across reboot +relogin ? Why would gnome desktop startup disable multidisplay ( and where might that be configured ) ?
I can't see anything obvious in /etc/gdm for this. xorg.conf lists both monitors enabled.
What I'd like to have is alsa mixer enable microphone on plug-in and mute it on plug-out.
It's because when enabled it produces unwanted noise in the speakers, so I have to manually turn it off once I'm done with using skype and turn on again when I get a call. I'd like to automate that process.
i installed FC 13 the version was kde and i installed gnome using yum, edit /etc/pam.d/gdm and /etc/pam.d/gdm-password
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have updated from 10.2 to 11.1. When 11.1 starts I get into the CLI rather than an automatic startup of KDE. I can login at the CLI, then type "startx" to start KDE. I know there is someway to automatically start KDE when the computer boots, but just can't seem to find it. Can someone point me in the right direction? With 10.2 I was able to automatically load KDE as myself as user and would like to have that again in 11.1.
