Server :: Clamd Taking An Age To Start And Guzzling Ram?
Apr 7, 2010
Clamd on my CentOS latest stable box takes an age to start.s in, well over half an hour. Two clamd processes get started, each of which has a VIRT of about 220m. Load average goes through the roof, values from 6-8+.The server is a bit weedy (190MB RAM, processor I forgot), but I didn't have these problems before. They seemed to arise after running freshclam to update definitions.
I try to start clamd service since I found "PROCS CRITICAL: 0 processes with command name 'clamd'" from nagios. so I check at its log file at "tail /home/clamav/logs/clamd.log" it said that log file exceeding maximum limit so I try to rotate log by
I have problem starting clamd. It's unable to execute setgroups() /etc/group , /etc/password files are world readable Here is output after starting clamd: sudo clamd ERROR: setgroups() failed.
This started happening sometime yesterday afternoon on a server that's been trouble free for years.
My Ubuntu update is scheduled to run every month on the 5th, so this was roughly 10 days after that. So it seems to me it's not update related. The only thing I've done on the server lately is update a spamassassin rule which required an amavis restart. That was done earlier in the week.
I've already reviewed issues at [url] and all the conditions are correct for the more recent How to.
I can also confirm that, in fact, /var/run/clamav/clamd.ctl does not exist.
I am using Opera 10.60 browser for the past one month. Generally it use to take about 20 seconds to startup but since yesterday its taking more than 40. I don't know about the exact duration but certainly its taking a lot of time now.
I don't know if it is just me but it seems like Ubuntu takes a long time to start up programs. For example, it takes me 10 seconds to start up "Ubuntu software center". My computer is a relatively fast one. It has 4 gb of ram and an intel core duo processor. I didn't install that many programs. Does anyone know what might be the source of the problem and how to fix it?
I am having weird issues with courier IMAPD, the load goes like crazy at times and users mail client just hangs! The server is having 4 GB RAM Dual Core and around 700 users connected to 143 (via netstat) and I see around same amount of imapd's in process list. Mailbox stays in SAN (fiber).
I got a new-old notebook from ebay, a sony vaio vgn-tt11. it is working really great with slackware and I can recommend it to everyone whose thinkpad got stolen ;-)I am trying to optimize everything I can and one thing is bothering me although I might be wrong about this. "top" is showing X server taking between 4-7% of the cpu even when I am not doing anything (no apps with running in the background). I remember that x server on the thinkpad did use much less cpu. but I checked that on thinkpad at least two years ago.
4-7% is (not) much and I would like to hear whether your X server is taking any cpu power and how much. do you have any ideas how to improve this or is this something I have to live with? I am using vanilla slackware 13.1, gnome slackbuild and kernel 2.6.38. I tried playing with Xorg.conf but it did not help at all. I activated "composite" extension through xorg.conf but nothing changed.

I can install clamav from SBo no problem, but the version is outdated. I downloaded the newer source code from clamav's site, edited the slackbuild to reflect the new version number, and rebuilt the package. But I get this following error when building.
Config files are installed in the proper places (except the file /etc/clamd.conf.rej referred to below which doesn't exist). But the binaries clamd and freshclam aren't installed anywhere.

My company recently started bouncing all .Gifs back to our linux server. Is there a way on my end that i can block this from happening so it stops taking up space?
We are using wordpress with MYSQL. Both the app and DB server are different with 6CPU and 6GB RAM and 32bit processor. We had noticed recently that mysqld process is taking too much of system usage- ranging upto 100% of CPU utilization while having the load of 1200-1600 concurrent users.

The mail server keeps getting locked up with tens of thousands of spam emails. So, i followed some instructions similar to this : [URL]I can clear the queue spams, easy, but after an hour or so the server is dead again.. not receiving emails and not sending out emails.

I am backing up data from a remote server onto a local ntfs partition. It seems that the rm -rf and cp -a commands are taking a long time to complete in what should be short, incremental backups.Has anyone had similar problems when backing up to an ntfs partitionHere is my rsnapshot.conf:
I am using KVM and created four guest Operating systems on it.The server host is Ubuntu 10.04.I am using 4 websites in a reverse proxy environment. One of our website is running on CentOS VM.Right now there is no traffic on the website static HTML pages.I do not have any clue as why it was taking longer time to be accessed.
I have a Phenom II X4 955 box running 8G RAM. Now I'm planning building a Phenom II X6 box running 16G RAM. But the 4G module/stick is very expensive, not easy to find. However most mobo can take max 4 sticks. I can't find mobo board on market except server taking 8 sticks.

Im trying to run synergy on startup. This works fine on the client, but it wont start automatically on the server. I put this line in an entry in startup applications:
I have setup a CentOS 5.5 server as a DHCP server. That will be it's only task in a Cisco callmanger VoIP environment The DHCP server that comes with CentOS 5.5 is from ISC V3.0.5 -redhat.
The server (HP DL360) has two physical NIC's of which only NIC1 is used (ETH0)

Why does the system ask a declaration for eth0 0.0.0.0?
I'm configuring a new Centos 5.5 server in replacement of an old W2K server. The topology of our network is simple : one file/dhcp/dns relay server and workstations (PC's and some MAC's) plus network printers and scanners. All the workstations have dynamic IP addresses (easier because a lot of 'dynamic' changes : new persons with their own laptop, ...) and the server and printers/scanners have fixed IP addresses.I edited the dhcpd.conf (see here underneath), I have the file dhcpd.leases but it doesn't start !
I installed IBSng in ubuntu-server .but i can not start this server :Code:[root@myserver]# /etc/init.d/IBSng start.: 8: Can't open /etc/rc.d/init.d/functions"functions" file is in RPM base system . and ubuntu have not this file
